Anyone know what the size of these meals are?

  • Any good?

    • I think for the price it is a good deal. Food seems to taste better on he ground than in the air!

      • How does it compare to $3 frozen meals from the supermarket? Just curious. Never been a fan of either.

        • -4

Have not been a fan of $3 frozen meals as concern about additives to keep them longer. Gate Gourmet mentioned that their food have a short expiration date.

          • +8

@Homia: Frozen meals keep a long time because they're frozen, not because of additives.

          • @Homia: Only the 10 for $25 meals have a short shelf life (and that's based on you not, you know, freezing them). The $27 for 7 meals do not, and look like they're closer to Qantas meals or Virgin International than Virgin Domestic.

      • Agree, very nice meals. Had some from Snap Fresh

  • Actually, they've gone down.

This is the last deal when the were 7 for $27: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/557561

Obviously that got a bad reception so they reduced the price.

    • I think those 7 for $27 are different meals. This deal looks to be the same meals as the deal from back in June.

      • Ah, same site but they now have both the "Clearance pack" which this is, and the "Meal Pack" which that is.

        Very distinctive!

As much as I want to support businesses battling out the downturn in tourism, they have to up the game in portion size and quality IMO, they don't look appetizing at all. If they can improve they can turn it into a great alternative to other frozen / takeaway meals.

It's $2.50 for a cooked and packed meal. Your expectations are too high for something that costs less than a Maccas cheeseburger.

      • I would be willing to pay more per meal. But I get your point.

    • They don't need to do anything of the sort. The price is ludicrously low compared to, e.g. other frozen / takeaway meals, the portion sizes are what their entire model is based around (i.e. their packing equipment packs this exact amount, their recipes make this exact amount), and they're actually great for portion control for those wanting to maintain lower calorie intake.

    Good deal.

If they offered this in Melb again I wouldn't hesitate to buy some more. Was very satisfied with the first deal.

    • +2

Don’t forget Snap Fresh is also offering airline meals pick up from Melb airport and other airports

      • $4 vs $2.50, looks like they have more variety but Gate Gourmet is better value.

Didn't know wanting to eat plane food was a thing. Also remember if these are made for plane passenger, then they will be high in sodium. Salt is added in higher than normal levels to give taste at the high altitudes. Be interesting to see the taste difference on the ground

    • +1

I guess it's the novelty. Once you've tried these once, you won't go back for more. They're not that good at all.

Salt levels aren't noticeably high as they're made for the purposes of this sale, they're not airplane stock.

      • +1

Nah, the clearance packs are definitely old airline stock

      • +1

The chicken Parma was the best, it was a huge meal for the price. If I knew that’s what I could get then I’d buy lots of these

    • +1

Maybe remind them of flying, whether it’s good or bad is a different question.

  • +1

The meals are actually pretty decent. Much prefer the lunch/dinner options than breakfast.

  • are they business class or economy class meals ?

  • Website's being Ozbargin hugged to death

  • +1

How to get there cheaply then?

    • The 400 bus

  • -2

Man if they want to get rid of stock, i rather them run charities for the homeless or those in-need. I would in fact donate if they were willing…

    • +13

You could donate to them by buying them and then go hand out to the homeless yourself … to prove you're not just virtue signalling.

      • -3

So you think you have a sound argument that he has to pretend hes a corporation with deep pockets and feed the homeless hundreds or thousands of meals as opposed to donate the $25 toward it like most citizens might manage? Yeah, that makes sense.

Its funny to watch one 'side', signal that the other is signalling, like they arent signalling too.

  • Showing pickup from next monday after 1700 @BNE!!!!!!

  • So whats the deal with airline food….

  • I have purchased Gate and Snapfresh meals.
Snapfresh premium range was fantastic large meals i had a pack with lots of variety like lamb shank, wagyu beef, chicken. They also had a delivery option so I brought bundles of meals and ice-cream spent over $100 and got it all delivered free!!!

  • Picked mine up today, thought I'd note, these are a breakfast/lunch/dinner mix rather than the lunch/dinner pack price from before.
