    Battery and charger sold separately

      That’s what “skin” means

        Love the skin you're in.

awesome product. Lasts around 25-30 mins with 2.5 ah battery and 50 minutes with 5 ah battery. This is using the metal blade in thick brush. Ego had a deal of spend over $800 and get free 2.5 ah battery..not sure if still available

  • +16

They neglect to mention this but you can remove the handles, attach to your bike and ride down to the shops for a calippo.

  • +4

    Charger is +$149
    2.5ah battery +$199
    5.0ah battery +$349

So looking at +$348 or +$498 if you don’t have these already.

    • Yeah this is often this price and like u point out it’s because the battery and charger are where they sting u on. It’s great if you’re already in the ecosystem but Ego battery prices are the worst going around

      • They're 56V batteries though so it's sometimes easy to forget when comparing them to 18V battery prices.

        i.e. 56V - 5ah battery has - 280 W h
        18V - 12ah has 216 W h

    • Nah. Gumtree charger is $40-50.

Battery you may not want second hand. Although there are new ones sometimes (eg: there's a multi power head kit in Perth for example that's brand new).

Altho that power head would just take a brushcutter head anyway. But my point is you just gotta look and you'll save $$$.

    • And this is precisely why the term "skin" has come about, instead of the more easily understood "attachment only" or even "without battery".

A deja vu, getting excited then finding out the TOTAL price. Want it but not for that price. $349 battery for 40 min only :(

    • That's good the blower only lasts 11 mins on turbo for the 2.5ah and 22 mins for the 5.0ah. Lucky I have 5x2.5ah and 1x5.0ah and 5 chargers lol.

That's a lot of current draw to burden the cells. The 2.5Ah is single string, so at ~5.5C that's 13.5A from full to depleted, and that means heat, which is a huge strain on the cells. If you use the 5Ah, you're sharing the load across 2 cells.

For high drain usage, in fact for any power tool really, you want to give it breaks and time to cool down. Maybe use another battery. These batteries have a waxy shell around them that melts to help dissipate the heat, but it's effectiveness is reduced the more this happens.

When the battery starts to reduce in capacity (usable time), that's when you should look at rebalancing the cells, either buy your own, or find someone that can do it. This can extend the life considerably. If you wait until it's bad, or won't charge, one or more, or all of the cells are likely damaged and can't be recovered. They are a complex pack, so quite difficult to replace cells.

      Battery 50mins through thick scrub+++++++
I live on 10 ha (100,000m2) I'm guessing most city folk can run it at half power or 1/4 power and get hrs outta one charge.
With a sharpened blade ( thanks OzB whetstone) this thing chops through saplings and small trees ( finger diameter).
I love it most as I don't have to muck around with small petrol motors and my teenagers can operate the equipment.
The Honda don't get used anymore

  • I got the whole kit and caboodle, just waiting on 2 x 5.0ah via redemption. finished on 31 July.

  • Waiting for this to come up again

      It won't.

They are still clearing stock of this crappy tool because they can't sell it.

Nobody really likes the handlebars. And the shaft is impractically long for residential use.

So the kit won't come back because it sold out in that deal and unless things have changed they aren't making any more.

I even raised the point that they should send them as separates when they ran out of kits (they took payment.. It's the least total tools could have negotiated with ego). Ego have been real anuses over the battery redemption t&c too. Ego aren't very customer focused because they can't seem to understand what good customer service is.

Thankfully the gear is great even if ego staff are not.

      • What are they doing re the redemption t&cs?

        • +2

Transaction must be on one receipt. They don't care if you spend $5000 as 10×$500, you'll receive nothing.

It's just a stupid clause. Arent you a great customer that spent $5000 either way?

Also it's fulfilled by a third party. So lazy. So forget calling them to ask if they'd be kind enough (and I understand a no is reasonable so I'm not saying this is an issue) to let you pay the diff in RRP to upgrade the size of the redemption battery.

  • If only it was the line trimmer for that price.

    • Looks like they've sold all the anti-clockwise trimmers that were also this price. I bought one about 2 weeks ago with a blower kit. $588 for line trimmer and blower with battery and charger was ok value for me. $499 for similar trimmer kit so got a blower skin for $89 is how I'm looking at it.

        Nice. 2.5aH?

        @arnor:
Trimmer $100-150 on gumtree. I paid $100. Go that way.

Waiting For A Deal On The EGO Self Propelled Lawn Mower

  • Bought my current ego trimmer kit from these guys last year from a Ozb post.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/500805

Shipped out on the same day and took less than a week to arrive if i remember. shipped from QLD to NSW (metro).
Still going strong never had any issues. Used more than 30+ times.
This is temping but a brushcutter is definitely over kill for my needs
    .

  • Any suggestion for cheap Ego replacement batteries?
    Can they be refurbished?
    Thanks

  • Such a good brand, 1 charge I get 2 mows (front and back) or full mow plus edge trimming (carbon shaft trimmer is a doosy). Too bad I dont need a brush cutter. Do need a blower though, hopefully this will come on sale.

  • If anyone is in Melbourne and missed out, they can have mine for the same price. Still new in box.

    • Hi djcharliek,
do you still have the ego brush cutter skin going for sale (new /in box for $169?
      regards Dave.
