Thanks for the wonderful insight and your willingness to post a better deal!

  • nice price, would take it up but re-contracting will restart my 24 months and I want NBN loving.

  • Oh joy. Guess I'll be stuck on sub-par 1.5 Mbps ADSL for a loooong time to come still.

  • Too bad this is for syd and melb only :(

  • Best number to call them is 1800110048
Its there 200gb plan with home line budget phone plan normally $88.

  • Do i need to pay for modem with this plan? I called up and they told me I need to pay for the modem which AUD200+?!

    • +1

the telstras guy told me modem is included

I called twice today, first time the woman told me it's $99, second time the guy said it's $88. Apparently they're not aware of the promotion at all. Then I had to read the link address to the guy then he said OK then you can have it (I'm in Sydney), after 5 seconds he changed his mind and said no you can't have it because this offer is only available to people on a certain list! Telstra sucks!

    • No such thing as a certain list i suggest you call them back up and re apply i signed up with them and i am not on any special list , call them up and tell them you want to speak to chris and this is his id D369312 and tell them to email him your details and he will call you he was a great help with me
      hope this helps

  • Great Deal.. I was paying 79.95 for 50GB Cable with no landline.

Now $78 for 200GB Cable and they have waived the connection fees for a landline that was deactivated 8 years ago and has no dialtone, I think this is normally $125 or more when they visit to reconnect.

  • hey guys just an update for this i rang testra today, as an optus customer i get:

a bonus 130 dollar welcome credit, (on top of the standard 70 dollar credit) $200 total
    free connection.
    free modem.
    free calling number display.
no contract on the bundled home line (24 on the net)

tbox is 11 dollars extra a month.

from my previous research they also allow web sites (traffic on port 80)
there network isnt as congested as the optus network
    no peak off peak.

optus im on the 64 dollar bundle:
    30 dollars of calls included.
    120 GB data. (peak/off peak)
(only 20 or 30 MB)+20 bux for the premium speeds.
so about the same price for the same speed,

basically a trade off extra data and quality vs 30 bux of free calls (which has been very handy as we never go over this…)

not sure what happens if i cancel the bundle, (would assume i pay 10 dollars more for the net) though it may still be cheaper to cancel it, get naked cable and a VOIP provider with some free calls)

    • damn, they didnt mention any welcome credit for me!

      • yeah thought i might be able to help out some other bargain hunters with this.

and to see if anytone else managed to squeeze anything more from them.

        • any tips on how you did it, wisc?

Called them and was told it's for outbound marketing only - doesn't work if you call them yourself…

        • hmmm i just said i got a call from another outbound marketing co.(TSA) and that i was with optus, she said she could give me the 70 +130 called that number on the site from this link… think im going to sign up today (still unsure as there is no cap included with telstra and we never go over the 30 on our home phone.), I can cancel my home phone from optus for another two days with no break in contract as they are raising the fees for it.

OK just connected wwith telstra now, its a 70 dollar welcome for porting the home line, 110 dollar credit for porting the internet over from optus. (if your ringing up tell them that) I also ported my home number over as well, thats good no change in number.

I rang up telstra today to switch over, the indian guy i was talking to said, nope there is nothing in regards to welcome credits, so I hung up rang straight back, then got Jerrod from melbourne. he told me its only some departments that can apply the credit. so yeah getting 180 credit on my bill for porting over from optus…

good news is i talked my way out of the optus disconnection fees too for net and home line as they changed the service agreement, i bought them as a bundle so they should be treated as a bundle… good for optus, as if they made me pay i was never going back…

gonna miss the home phone 30 dollar credit though.

the other bundles you can get a 10 dollar discount on too, but they are a bit more expensive or have less data.

    • Legend!

Called again (after 3 failed attempts two days ago) - got a guy from Melbourne as well - told him straight out that I wanted to get the $110 credit (as my home phone is already with Telstra) - he said no worries.

Took me 15 mins to sign up, was promised a call from technician within 2 days to arrange installation.

Really appreciate you taking time to post all this info, wisc! Saved me $110! Good job on your Optus negotiations as well! Upto 100Mbps - here we come!

Also asked about a bigger bundle - he said it would be about $50 extra for the 500Gb one (plus you get local calls included).

      • nice glad i could help, now i just hope your not on the same cable as me as its shared bandwidth. ;)

next thing I was planning on doing now that i have my 70 dollar welcome credit is disconnect the home line (depending on how much the cable price goes up)
and getting a good VOIP service… from as little as 14 bux some providers provide free calls to any landline in australia. (and 10 cent per min mobile calls)
there are also some that charge 0 a month and you just pay 10 cents per call you make to a land line. - will go that way if its too expensive to get rid of the home line.
        see:
        http://www.voipchoice.com.au/voip-provider-comparison-austra…
        or
        http://www.marketclarity.com.au/voip/
        or
        http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/voip_providers

also devices you can get that will allow you to receive calls on your land line and use the same phone to ring out on. meaning you dont need to go though your PC or have a seperate like in the olden days…

we dont use our home phone enough so the bigger bundles where a bit crazy, also 30 cents for a local call is crazy… if the wife calls her mum once or twice a day it will quickly skyrocket…230centsdays+20 bux… (may be worthwhile getting the more expensive packages)

        think they had an
88 dollar bundle - free local and 100 GB, 1 dollar STD/moble calls (20 minutes?)
118 200GB (could have been 500 but dont think so) free landline calls and to telstra mobiles
and 148 500 GB, and free calls to anyone in australia.
and another 88 dollar one - 100GB only and free local calls.

        • I've been on SuperSaver plan with MyNetFone for years (at the time bought the most expensive ADSL router with built in VOIP support - had a cheap wireless phone plugged in straight into my router for international calls). Will now have to score a VOIP adaptor with one of the providers.

It's $70 from MyNetFone which is a bit steep - these kind of companies give them out for free once in a while. In general, found their quality to be really good - though the billing system is a bit stuffed - they charge me at a higher rate for calling Saint Petersburg (which is meant to be like 4 times cheaper than calls to Russia) - I complained at the start, then gave up, since either way it's pretty cheap and not willing to spend 20 mins a month arguing on the phone to get $3 back.

        • thanks, was going to sign up with MyNetFone, they have a 14 dollar VOIP adaptor which looks ok.
only thing that bugs me is it doesnt have fail over or incoming/outgoing faxing. (which one of the 70 dollar ones does)
Might just shell out the 14 bux, see how i go, if its good switch to the better modem if i really decide i need to fax. worst case if i decide to keep the telstra line and get the 0 dollar a month WP special, ill still have that to fall back on.

two WP plans where perticularly good.
the 5 dollar a month with 100 free calls, or the Pay for what you use 10 cent calls…
probably just end up forking out the 5 bux a month, cut off the home line (paying more for net) and dropping the misses cap down 10 bux. should save around 40-50 bux a month in line rental and calls.

        • Don't know if it's any help to you, but I found a way so that I don't have to get the VOIP adaptor! In my family we don't make any local calls (use mobiles for all calls within Australia), but we do make international calls.

Installed CSipSimple on the two Android devices in my family and MyNetFone app on my iPhone. They are all connected to the same MyNetFone account (wouldn't work if you want to receive calls, but works if all you care about is outgoing calls). Then use 3G or WiFi to make calls over VOIP from the mobile. Seems to work ok.

Above solution is great for the MegaSaver plan (as you don't pay any monthly/annual fees and don't get the DID number anyway). Then people can still reach you on your home phone (which is of course part of this bundle) and you can call quite cheaply on the go (if you have generous data allowance on your mobile plan) or call from home over the wireless.
