    wheres the bargain?

  • 109USD + shipping on Amazon (the exchange rate they use is not the same as the official rate though). I got one last week for $133 total (AUD), not much difference.

      warranty?

      I'll pay $6 for Aus warranty…

      • +5

True, but FYI, Amazon has warranty as well - they send you a new one without you having to first send your old one back.

      • +7

Amazon warranty for the kindle is known to be first class.

    • Did it come with an Aussie power adapter?

      • No, just the USB cable. Same at DSE it seems.

  • Do you guys think that DSE will be getting the fire?

    • +1

Not anytime soon. The Amazon Appstore is still region locked… and it's the only way the Fire can download apps.

    • Hey mate. they might be getting them in. The sales rep I was talking said that this afternoon when I went to one of the DSE stores near my house.

    • AFAIK no; we aren't even getting the touch in Australia :(. It sucks.

  • +3

Isn't this the price it always is?

    • I'm negging for this reason. It's always this price and everywhere else in Oz has it the same price.

  • +1

I think I would prefer to wait for the kindle touch to arrive, anyone know when this might be launching in Australia? Its a shame we dont have access to the ad sponsored versions like the US does.

  • +1

Yep i think the kindle touch is a better product and i also think there is no bargain here…

    • not really worth a neg tho, this is the cheaper non-touch model (usually preferred here).

thats like saying the galaxy tab is a better product.

    • +1

I think people are going to be aware of how much the kindle costs in the states and feel somewhat duped when they have to pay considerably more here in Australia, especially with dollar parity these days.

      • +1

Yep, normal price for Aus is definitely not a good deal…

  • +1

I'm waiting for the Kindle Touch. More storage, touch screen.

  • +3

lol its the same price as the one i brought from amazon and its the australian RRP
    no deal just advertising

  • +2

    agreed, no deal

  • No deal, $79 for US version and $109 for AU What The..??

    • The $79 version is supported by advertisements and not available outside the US.

    • +1

US$79 is ad sponsored version, so we should actually be comparing against US non ad sponsored which is US$109 … still $30 dearer or thereabouts compared to US. Ad sponsored would be ok though, not as if it intrudes into your reading, I think it just puts an ad on the screen when it sleeps.

      • Ad-sponsored??? Seriously?
        :/

        • You know how it works? it really isn't that bad. They're only on the lock screen, and even then they're not very intrusive. If you keep using it and it's not locking you won't see them. A fairly small price to save ~30% of the product cost.

  • +1

Move along people. Nothing to see here.

  • Seems to be some US ebay sellers prepared to ship the ad sponsored version to Australia from about $110 delivered and also some sellers taking pre-orders to ship the touch version here when its released in Nov (also ad sponsored). So if Amazon wont sell ad sponsored to Aussies, then ebay sellers will fill that gap.

  • Oh and you can't borrow books from your local library yet. Unless your local library is in the United States.
