  • Is there an easy way to know if my nearest store has stock?

    • +4

      Not really besides calling up

    • +5

If you go in store they can check stock for every store in your state, (may or may not print this out if you ask YMMV).

  • +1

Should mention you got it from Prahran store

  • +5

    4TB for 99.90.

    • +1

Is it the desktop or portable version? Any idea on model number so I can price match at OW?

      • Says portable on it. Whats the difference?

        • +3

Portable version is 2.5" and powered off a USB cable. Desktop version is 3.5" and requires a second cable to plug it into a power point.

      • Model Number - STEA2000400 - Portable drive.

      • +2

Officeworks don't pricematch items on clearance.

    • Didnt show this at the few shops i went to, any proof to help??

    • +1

You're welcome. I waited months for this deal to come back, finally gave up and bought from newegg for about 60% more than this. You'll get this today, and I'll still be waiting another week for mine. :(

I knew a deal would come up - just needed someone to bite the bullet and trigger it.

    • Thanks picked up last one at my local. + Few other discounted items including TP Link smart plug $10.

  • How can you price match this at Officeworks ?

    • By calling them

      • +2

I believe Officeworks only price match hard copy or online sales. If they can't see any of those they won't price match.

        • +3
          1. Print this page at Officeworks
          2. Checkmate
    • Officeworks does not price match Clearance items

  • +2

I’ll check my local store in Brisbane tomorrow, update me if you lucky

    • +3

Hey just so you know the 2tb veraion is available im the Brisbane area.

      • Might be best to call up first before driving around. Bear in mind not all locations sell tech stuff.

      • Tried aspley Hypermarket and chermside to no avail

  • Are all Post Offices licensed? I'll have a look tomorrow at my local LPO if there's stock

    • +5

Definitely not all. LPO can still check stock at corporate stores for you though if they don't have any on hand.

      • Thanks for confirming

      • Just to clarify, the ones that will most likely have these are the official Post Shops? Not the LPO's?

        • +1

          Yes :)

  • Good price for this.

I paid $59 in 2018 when Amazon doing sale and $20 bonus discount

Hope can find it at this price near me

  • +15

Nice try Dan. $59 bargain only to cop a fine.

    • +16

Yeah forgot to mention… by the time I got home it had cost me $1711.95
$59.95 for the Drive + $1652.00 fine for leaving home for nonessential reason.

      • +4

Really.. Keeping your Linux disros safely isnt nonessential reason?? :)

      • +11

Too bad it wasn't a Western Digital "Essentials" branded drive.

        • :P

        • Shut up and take my upvote. :)

  • Would this be shuckable?

    • Apparently you can. Just watched a Youtube video.. a butter knife to leverage off the cover, remove 1 screw and remove SATA adapter.

    • Seagate portable drives are shuckable, not like WD

    • Only WD solder the portable USB drives

    • I bought 2 from different post offices, 1 today. Already pulled out

    • I upgraded my ps4 with this years ago. It can be pulled out.

    • -1

Arguably that's the only one reasonable use for Seagate Rosewood drives. I mean, remove them from enclosure, put them in very inaccessible place and try not to look let alone breath near them. And of course have 100% backup on different model from different manufacturer.

Because Seagate Rosewood drives are absolute and total garbage.

      • Are these rosewood drives?

        • Unless you manage to find these enclosures manufactured about 3-4 years ago that had Samsung M9T drives in them, they're Rosewood drives.

  • +1

can this be used as an ext drive for ps4 ?

    • Yes, thats what Im looking for as well my current 1TB is so old that I think its affecting my read/write speeds

      • How long does a drive normally lasts?

        • +1

4-5yrs of heavy use before they begin to slow down a lot

        • I had a 5TB variant of the Seagate portable drive and it had a stuck head within two months of owning the drive (happened on a hot Summer day). I did not ask for warranty simply because I wanted to get my files back by opening the drive up and loosen the head myself. I don’t think the warranty includes data recovery.

          • +1

@FrugalNotStingy: I have a 1TB WD 25" passport external drive that fails after 5yrs with very low usage, scanned and found bad sectors.

Followed some guide on partitioning the bad sectors and hide it from usage. Now works fine, but dare not store any important data's. Just using it for photos and videos, plugged into android tv

    • Internal and external.

  • Getting flashbacks to this unicorn

Incredible that they still sell 5+ year old phones at that sort of price point. The iPhone 6 doesn't even get software updates anymore.

    • Do you now the model of Vodafone Pocket Wifi?

      • +1

Huawei R216h. Tried to post it as a deal but mods pulled it down shoftly after due to alleged insufficient quantities.

  • Anyone found these prices in WA?

    • +2

When I went in to pick up a few things the Brisbane area, the Aus Post rep told me their clearance prices are nationwide (unlike places like Officeworks where they can be store specific). Hope that helps.

      • +1

Thanks, certainly motivates me to stop at the 2 post offices I'll drive past tomorrow to check :-)

        • They seem to be very helpful at checking stock levels. Could always ask the first one your stop at to tell you if nearby locations have any.

    • +1

I can check for you tmrw at work.
      NoR or SoR?

      • +1

Thanks for being supportive. Can you help check what is available around Melbourne (or dump a list of available stores if that's easier?)

        • +9

I can only check stores in my state and unfortunately for you I'm in WA, sorry.

Can def put WA stock here though.

          • @Ironic fear: Can you please do that? Thank you.

I will go check tomorrow. Great deal, hate how it's 2020 and most protable HDDs are still using micro usb 3

    • +1

The profitable HDDs are using solid gold connectors

  • +1

Nice. I'll have to check my local post offices. Still have the Seagate 4tb desktop I purchased from this previous deal for $99 at Australia Post in mid January 2016.

    • +1

ha I still have 2 unopened from that deal!

  • +1

If I go to buy this and get pulled up by the cops I'll just tell them it's for health reasons - low iron!

  • dun worry

  • Can you trust it for backing up important files?

    • I would never rely on a single backup. at least two, if not three separate backups if its really important

      • Thanks.

      • Rule of 3 - you want at least 3 copies (and ideally 4)

        • Copy 1 is your primary / working data on your device
        • Copy 2 is the first back up
        • Copy 3 is the second backup

If you can have a Copy 4, preferably offsite.. that's helpful too.

For some types of data we might easily think about 5 or even 6 copies (e.g. family photos) as the actual size is relatively small (a few hundred gigabytes in our case) which in turn means the cost for multiple copies is pretty small too.

For other types of data we may only have 2 copies (e.g. a primary and a backup) - e.g where we have digitally backed up all our (physical) movies..

If you're in the mac world then a combination of time machine and carbon copy cloner are your friends..

        • Thanks for the detailed reply @Jason

Google Seagate Rosewood and judge for yourself.

  • +1

Called the main number and asked about any Gold Coast stock. No Seagate showed on their database as an item the PO sells? I'm going to have to go to a PO and have a look myself…surely not gone everywhere.

    • There was stock showing on GC @9.10.
Ask them to look up item number of product, & search that way. It's a clearance line not listed in normal stock.

  • +2

    Brisbane South stock showing @9:10
Asked @ Post Office - searched by item number
    2TB
    West End 2
    Springield some
    4TB
    Gold Coast (didn't ask where)

    • Is that all the stock in brisbane south?

      • Asked Carindale to check stock availability near there. Only those 2 were suggested. Was after a 4GB. Decided not to hunt unicorns in this area.

        • Thanks for that. I thought of going to west end but I guess by now they would be sold out too.

          • @Iluvfreebies: That's why I didn't go after 9.
            Stock levels are often inaccurate.

    • Checked at Moorooka, It was in stock but not on clearance. It is only corporate stores.

  • got last one 2 tb PO Lane Cove

  • Just picked up the 2tb drive. Last one in my local post office. (Townsville)

  • +5

went to both LPO nearby, none have any stock… the staff was quite grumpy and not very friendly. I showed asked and showed them photos of Seagate drive, they just told me Austpost never sell them, and never look at me, also told me that they're not able to check stock at LPO elsewhere

Doncaster East Tunstall & The Pines

    • Should name and shame your LPOs with the grumpy and unfriendly staff, so the managers of the LPOs can do something about it.
