And less than 100 hours of SD video, so just one dual-layer blu-ray with HEVC could hold the entire thing, and probably in better quality.

So, how does the official blu-ray box set do? 21 discs FFS! A whole terabyte capacity. They are deliberately making it inconvenient.
It is sad when the pirate downloaders get a much better product than people willing to pay. Though I suspect many real fans do both.
