Have you seen those video input selector boxes? In supermarkets, JB Hifi, etc
It's generally a manual thing. You plug multiple RCA devices in the back, have 1 RCA to go to your tv, then you just press buttons or push a switch to select which of the devices will play to your RCA ports.
It's pretty easy these days to region free almost any DVD player. Blu-Ray is a different story.

Personally I enjoyed the 3rd season too, though I think they were affected by being told the show was going to be canned :S
The writer said he had to speed up the story. A lot of things he wanted to spin out over several episodes but now he just had to accelerate it somehow.
I'm watching season one as we speak! First time ive seen it, and loving it!
