I actually think your better off with a 5700XT or a 2060S at a lower price point than a 2070 non S. This is besides waiting a few months for the new cards to be announced.

    • why?

      • +1

Better value for money. 5700XT trades blows with the 2070S and is cheaper and the 2060S can be had for around $100 less and only 5-10% less performance

what about waiting for nvidia 30xx series release date..
which should push these prices down more when stocks get cleared by suppliers

The 5800XT has no ray tracing..
so wouldn't it be better to wait for AMD to release their own RT cards?

seems like ray tracing is the next big thing
even though right now there is not much games
it should be more supported when PS5 and Xbox Series X gets released…

          • @pinkybrain: I believe the AMD line will be a full low to high end line up and not a staggered one that Nvidia usually does but i think they may release or announce them later than nvidia…. the top end cards are rumored to support hardware ray tracing … haven't seen much on the AMD front though nowhere near the amount of leaks that Nvidia has had…. i think we are in for a generational change where 4k will be the norm… so i'm more for waiting than buying now (prices aside).

@pinkybrain: There is no 5800xt card
AMD raytracing should be available in RDNA 2 which the PS5 AND XBONEX will use.

            • @Jonathankira: yeah it was a typo..

            • @Jonathankira: hahaha crack up that the xbone name is going to stick in the next gen … technically it should be XboxSX … and yeh next gen should be 6000 Series so i assume its 6800XT :)

              • @scud70: ah yea my bad just a pc enthusiast and only been hearing more about PS5 plus
and seriously xbox one series x dayum X/X naming scheme

                • @Jonathankira: its ok makes no diff… its Xbox series X no more one i believe .. maybe XboxSeX will take off as a repalcement for xbone .. but XboneSX would have been epic if they'd kept the one in the naming haha

@pinkybrain: Raytracing is great, but its not really ready yet. Turning RTX on in current gen tanks FPS heavily even on high end cards. Hopefully this changes with 30xx series, then the value prop makes more sense.

DLSS 2.0 on the other hand is a pretty significant reason to invest in Nvidia over AMD right now.

@Kill Joy: yeah i seen the videos
RT can be done with some parts of the tech for some games (ie tomb raider, control, battlefield 1 etc)
but when all of RT is turn, the FPS suffers badly even for Quake..

It is definitely the next big thing in turns of improvement in graphics that I have seen..
and will be what makes next gen games on the next gen consoles look much more different and stand out..

Of course we will need wait for the 30xx, and AMD RT cards to see how they can improve the FPS with RT turned on….
since the current RTX 20xx RT is not that great in terms of games or performance..

          • @pinkybrain: I would wait for the 30xx series. That said the next gen consoles are running on last gen PC GPUs though they can push them more since they're more dedicated and by being smart with the other hardware.

            • @Caped Baldy: how come the next gen consoles can support ray tracing on last gen GPU
but the current AMD gpus don't support ray tracing?

              • @pinkybrain: They will be using next gen GPU as stated in AMD shareholder's conference and support for raytracing because of RDNA 2

            • +1

@Caped Baldy: the next gen consoles will be using RDN2 which is next gen gpu not last gen

              • @Jonathankira: Thanks for the correction. I thought I read they were similar (+10%) to amd 480 gen.

          • @pinkybrain: I'm hearing September for the 30 series, so yeah, I'm waiting.

              @mackdiddy:

I'm hearing September for the 30 series

Dont expect to land one untill christmas unless you want to pay very inflated prices. Stock is going to be very low with corona affecting supply chain and manufacturing.

              @mackdiddy: cool…
was thinking of going for 20xx card etc.,..
but $600+ for 20xx is not exactly cheap..and RT is still great on these cards..

I think I will wait as well..
the 30xx and next gen AMD cards may improve RT with lesser performance hit than current 20xx cards..
so will see how it goes..

          • @pinkybrain: I don't think Ray tracing is a good reason to buy an existing card. The RT effects can't keep up with the rest of the card, it cripples your frame rate. It's supposedly greatly improved in the upcoming cards.

Many problem with Radon / AMD when running my favourite emulator like Teknoparrot (timezone emulator)

Intel + nvida = for stable gaming
