    just purchased brother 。。。

Cheaper non genuine refill options for brother. Better choice in my opinion

      • What's the cheapest option for duplex color laser, when you factor in the price of the printer and price per page with the cheapest compatible toner?

        • +1

I just bought a mono printer, but the entry level colour is the Brother HL-L3230CDW.
Full replacement set from $175 but there may be cheaper options, I just googled for 5 seconds.

I bought the Brother HL-L5200DW which has 8000 page refills for $25 but this costs $279.

This model probably isn't for most people, there are a few cheaper mono versions. I wanted the speed and the 8000 page refills. There is a HL-L5100 for less, all the same features minus wifi.

Here is a good look at the Brother range:
          https://www.getbrother.com.au/brother-printers

          • @Click_It: I've seen one color laser printer that had a minimum monthly duty cycle as well as a maximum. I can't remember which one, probably a little Xerox. I wouldn't mind something like that because I'm sure I could sell 500 printed pages of something to someone each month.

            • @AustriaBargain: Over the years I've found OzBargain's achilles heel is printers. The community has answers for just about everything, asking for help with printers however is an exercise in futility. If you find one that fits your needs I'd say get it.

Not purely a duplex colour laser but I recently reviewed the coloured MFPs, this is what I found.

Oki 363DN for under $400, has everything except wifi and scan to Cloud (can buy a wifi module), TCO under $1,400 for 10,000 pages
Samsung C3060FR for under $400, no duplex scanning/copying, no wifi, 4000 page starter toner, TCO under $1k for 10,000 pages

I got the OKI and a wifi module as I wanted duplex scanning (do plenty of doc printing, signing and scanning during lockdown), my old HP's fuser finally gave in after 17 years and it was too expesnsive to replace. There is a wifi model but couldn't find any stock for a reasonable price.

nb. TCO is priced based on genuine toner.

I'd definitely go with Brother too for the cheep after market toner, way much cheaper for the long run

      • Can I ask , which model Brother ? I'm keen for a decent printer with a cheap ink option

        • Any model that ends with a DW (Duplex and WiFi).

      • +1

I bought HL-L3230CDW $224.28 include shipping。 cheap toner on ebay

        • Nice. My last Brother lasted 7 years. I should have gotten a final print statistic from it but I had used it professionally to print many hundreds of training manuals in colour over the years among other things. It was really punished. It finally died after a rough relocation, something inside physically broke. It sounded like hell yet still managed to print. But enough was enough and I retired it.

    • I ordered brother too a few days ago.

      • Is it HL2350DW?

        • +3

          The 2395 from officeworks :)

          I needed the scan function

          • +1

@ozchobie: It doesn't have automated document feeder does it? If not, why not just scan with your phone.

            • @AustriaBargain: I can't be bothered with shadows and I need high dpi for some creative work I do.

          • @ozchobie: Does it come with full toner and drummer? how much did it cost you?

    • Hi guys, mind sharing which brother machine you have bought? I'm looking for one for as well, thanks

      • My comment above

        • Thanks, didn't see your comments when I post. I'll check it out, cheers

  • what's the difference between this and the one listed above?

what's the difference between this and the one listed above?

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/brother-wi…

      Two differences:

      • The Lexmark in this deal can duplex print (printing both sides)
      • The Brother you've linked to has cheap aftermarket refills available
    • +3

the Brother model in your link doesn't support duplex printing, I bought the L2350DW recently which has duplex.

      https://www.centrecom.com.au/brother-hl-l2350dw-mono-laser-p…

For printers, the model number usually tells what it's capable of: D = duplex / W = wireless

      • the one you purchased or the Lexmark?

        • also think OW will price beat?

        • +1

I'd definitely go with Brother for the long run, see my comments above.

L2350DW isn't easy to find stock though, I bought from here:

          https://www.ecotechprintsolutions.com.au/brother-hl-l2350dw-…

Call them to check the stock before making an order.

          • @vita: I ordered 2350DW from TGG, it took 4 weeks for them to ship it out, it seems it has a long list of backorders.

      • it seems it can't be used as a scanner?

        • +1

No, it doesn't. This Lexmark doesn't do scan either, which is why I compare it with L2350DW side by side.
A MFC machine is significantly lager in size, I have an old color ink MFC dedicated for scanner, actually most of the time I just use the phone for that job.

          • @vita: ok ic. thanks for the information.

    • +1

This model has the inbuilt wireless already

    • Or the USB port on your wifi router.

Does anyone check out the price for the toner?

  • Doesn't say what amount, if any, of toner it comes with when bought. Some printers come with only a small amount of toner. Given what a large proportion of the printer price that a full toner refill tends to be, this is very relevant. As is comparing cost of refills across brands. Printer price is often subsidised to look attractive to buy, because toner refills are where they slug you.

    • It does in the specifications:

Cartridge(s) Shipping with Product 700* page Black Starter Return Program Toner Cartridges
*Average standard page yield value declared in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752.

Replacement toner comes in at ~$250 for 6000 pages or $0.041 per page

The equivalent Brother costs about ~$300 for 6000 pages of genuine toner, but generic toner is much much cheaper at ~$60 for 6000 sheets

  • +1

These are $89.99 at Costco if you have membership.

    • What $89 @ Costco, the brother or Lexmark printer?

      • Lexmark

        • Already out of stock in Costco docklands

  • Is this any good as color laser printer with no scan facility for $224 for home use?

Brother Wireless Colour Laser Printer HL-L3230CDW

    • That's a good price. Cheaper than centrecom

    • See the comment above from ozchobie. It seems pheepmart is a scam.

      • At least they accept PayPal so you are always protected.

Got the brother MFC on this deal and loving it. I did some research on the Lexmark, one place tried to sell it due to no Brother stock at the time and stated that Lexmark was a commercial machine vs retail for Brothers. I still decided on the Brother due to good reviews on OzB and cheap cartridges.

  • I've had numerous colour and mono laser printers over the last decade or so, including HP, Samsung, Lexmark and Brother. All three Brother printers I have owned are all still functional, the others broke down or needed critical parts. I must say that the Samsung CLP-620ND I had did produce the best results, but the transfer belt decided to shred itself for some reason and $280 to replace that part is not inviting :(

  • brother sucks at edge to edge detection
