Saw this earlier but then realised that this aerial doesn't have a spring and is therefore not really suitable for much other than petrol cars and soft roaders that never leave the road.

Shame they didn't include the antenna that has the spring, as I would have bought it!

    • I have this combo on a 4WD that's done Cape York, including the OTR, central Australia, and all sorts of rough roads in between.

5 years and no signs of major wear.

You likely won't see signs of, it will just snap.

You might get lucky and be ok, but this is straight from Oricom's website:
This antenna is commonly used on vehicles with limited vibration including; sedans, highway vehicles and four-wheel drives with petrol engines.

Personally in this instance I'd trust the manufacturer to know best.

But hey go on and neg away with all the experts on Ozbargain that know better… Lol

      Addendum, errata and correction:

The kit I bought had something like the ANU200, which has the tiny spring at the base. When I checked the deal on a phone screen, it looked the same as mine.

I was wrong, my other post should be ignored.

  • HOw do you install this? any youtube links? Got one 10 years ago and still not installed.

    • If you can't install a car stereo yourself, then this unit is most likely best installed with an car sound/4WD service person too.

This is a high IQ deal, thx OP.

    • Very happy to have found such deal. I think its great.

Perfect, Thanks OP. My wife just accidentally snapped my antenna off my bull bar 3 days ago and upgrading the old 40 channel CB is just a bonus.

    • +1

Very happy to hear that came in such good timing. Wife off the hook now I guess.

  • If the majority of my radio chatter would be to other cars in convoy, would something like this be a "good enough" antenna?

    • The antenna from this combo deal is 6.5dBi and the one you post is 2.5dBi. I assume the one in the combo deal is better? Plus you would enjoy much discount with the combo deal.

      • Definitely a better antenna in the deal, just conscious that the interior windscreen antenna is far more convenient to install and maintain.

  • For some reason this deal is $174 for me (Clayton store Vic) not $199. Therefore, instead of purchasing a $1 sponge, I can spend up to another $26 to receive the $55 discount.

    • Is it $174 in store or when you choose the store and the price changes online? Try other stores maybe? or just do Free Home Delivery!

Add the $1 sponge to your cart and it will drop to $144. The $174 is the original $199 price minus $25 with the "spend $100 get $25 off" deal. Adding $1 bumps you up to the next tier in the same deal.

      • Yes, that's how it worked for me. The total came to $145.00.

    Yeah…Breaker! Breaker! What's your 10-20?!
