Found this on the Dell website, can't customise at all, but good for anyone after a hi-res (1600*900) 14 inch laptop. I'd be tempted except for the 4gb with Win 7 32 bit is a bit of a turn off.

  • $1000 off.

  • for E6420, I'd go for JB's 20% off HP laptops. Get one of the top three most expensive ones

You get 8GB ram blu-ray player
    etc etc…

    • Feel free to post then.

    • Latitude E6420 is a very different laptop to those HP Pavilions sold in JB. Try EliteBook if you want an equivalent from HP, and those are not cheap either.

I use an E6420. Yes, it's a "step up" and should not be compared to "normal" class laptops, but I am not convinced it is worth the extra $$$. I don't like the design, and it is not exactly light-weight for its size. I'm not sure where the value is.

  • the only advantage i see of this is the higher res screen - however the other laptops are around the 600-700 mark with dedicated graphics and bigger hdd. is it really worth it? what else makes it special?

    not hating, just debating.

    • its a business grade laptop

      • Note 3 year warranty. This thing should still be running in 5 years time I imagine.

        • Yep, and business warranty means that you get next business day service (and I think it's onside too)

        • Yes most definitely 3 years Next Business Day service, where a Dell technician actually goes to your place to have your laptop fixed. One of the best laptop warranty IMHO.

        • These are fleet machines and are built much better than, say, the Inspirons. NBD warranty is fantastic if you use the machine for work and can't afford to be without it for weeks on end like all the other warranties around.

One of the few machines around that have an easily swappable hdd - the new Inspirons for instance have them underneath the motherboard where you need to take apart the whole machine to get to - rather than these which have two small screws to swap it.

  • RRP $1999? u sure it's not rrp 2 years ago?

      Sandybridge processor, so probably not

  • For that price it's a steal for the size and screen res combo alone.
RAM is dirt cheap these days and easy to upgrade on the Latitudes if you want winx64.

This deal makes me realise just how great Lenovo T420 deal was!

  • I haven't used this particular model, but I did have a similar one at work (E5410 i think?) and it really didn't impress me. Had cheap plastic and ran hot (1st series i5).

It's good if you run a small business and need the warranty, but for personal use I would much prefer a beefier and better built laptop.

    • who doesn't need warranty? get ACER? :P

Got the 5420 as specified above (minus W7, shipped with DOS CD) for $499 from the Dell outlet a few weeks ago. Very happy with the unit, just be aware that it is relatively large and heavy for a 14".

In fact, if you are interested in the E6420 there is one on the outlet for $826, over $500 cheaper than the price above.

They've had plenty of Latitudes on the DFO site, usually 1366*768 though

    There's one atm

    E6420 i5-2410M 128GB SSD 4200M 1600x900) $826

    • not any more there ain't :(

      • Yeah there was only one and now there's another one

        E5420 i5-2520M 1600x900 $ 569

        • I kept on wondering, If some of their condition is stated as new, why are these sold at cheap prices?

  • The 32 bit windows shouldn't bother you. You get an unused single use windows key on the sticker on your laptop (the one used on your computer when shipped will be an OEM key). So you can reinstall windows 64-bit from any DVD (make sure it's the right version you are installing), and use the key on your sticker. The key is specific to windows version (home, pro, ultimate etc), but not to 32/64-bit or service packs included. Hope this might help you :)

    • It can be done but why would you spend $1000 and then bother to find media to fiddle around? Plus it has a DVD ROM!

  • If you really want to use >3.5GB ram on 32 bit try this out: http://wj32.wordpress.com/2011/02/23/pae-patch-updated-for-w…
I'm not sure if it will work with the Intel video though.

i was about to go Malaysia and then realise that www.dell.com.my, same model, better processor, selling cheaper price even without discount.

    aussie is so ripped off!

    • Give a US link, and they will be more cheaper. Malaysia Dell does not ship to Australia. So ur negg is invalid.
