Thanks, bought.
Would this be suitable as an internal drive replacement if my motherboard has run out of sata slots? or is there a higher risk of failure due to being USB and just be like using an enclosure?
No as this is USB3 and not SATA. Totally different things and speeds. This just allows one to connect a spare drive to PC (without a caddy). If all you needed was an external USB3 then yes would work but I would not recommend. in those cases, you would be better off buying a caddy for the HDD. That way less risk of knocking the connector out.
This is only useful if you have spare drives that require quick short term access and saves fiddling around inserting into a caddy.
Cool thanks for the input. I'll hold off on this one then!
I rekon the caddies are better value. Examples of older deals.

@Borg: Got a few of those around, but I'm more after something that I can just leave connected all the time eg. as a backup/games drives. I have an mATX which only has 2 sata ports and no extra pci-e ports, so was wondering if there is a way to get more sata ports (or a more permanent solution)?
@frogduck: tested on ps4 as an extension will work?
have few models use on pc recognise as usb3.0 but none works as an extension for ps4 but readable.
@Borg: wondering if tried this caddy and plug it to ps4 as extension storage. Will it work??
I have few models but not recognise as an extension but readable.
@thomalfa: Cant comment as I dont own a PS4.
Just get a PCIe to SATA add in card. You get 4 SATA ports for giving up a PCIe 1x slot.
… or see if there are any current SATA drives that aren't really needed (eg DVD drive) or perhaps some smaller/older drives than can be replaced with a newer/faster/bigger drive.
What's the general quality of ORICO like? I had an external HDD hub recently but the power plug has died, so i'm looking for a replacement. Not sure if it was just bad luck, or common with these products?
ORICO provide 12 month warranty and lifetime technical service for product on ORICO AU Direct Store.
I've generally found the Orico products to be one of the better generic products (a safer bet than going with just the cheapest option off Ebay) & never had any failures to date.
This is essentially the same as these much cheaper options:
Australia:

China:
www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-3-0-To-2-5-SATA-III-Hard-Drive-Adapt…
or this for $8.99 on Amazon AU also
These would be good to use with a Raspberry Pi for a NAS…
Although NAS's aren't that expensive any more, for example:
