I wonder. a Tenda MW3 WiFi mesh system goes for $83.45 with free delivery and it has 1200AC + Eth backhaul, while a single repeater unit (also AC1200) is $58. Any compelling reason to buy standalone unit over a Mesh kit?

Currently I have Xiaomi WiFI Repeater but because it operates at half duplex it cuts down the bandwidth by around half.

Mesh you don’t get problems with bandwidth being cut in halfway.

I went from a Xiaomi WiFi repeater to a 3x Tenda MW3 setup and the difference is enormous. I get pretty close to wired speeds (45 vs 47mbps) in every corner of the house now, and was coming from dismal and unreliable 3-10mbps in the far reaches (would-be deadspots without the repeater). Mesh >>> repeaters.

  • Brought the aerial X the other week for $69.99 =_=. Very strong signals. Thought I would need a mesh network for good handoff between WIFI points, but proper setup with this AP point with the router from my provider and another router acting in bridge mode allows my device to seamlessly connect to the one with the strongest singal.

I wish I understood 2/10ths of what you have just explained :)

You don’t need to. Just buy a mesh system and it does the same as what he just explained.

        • IMO, mesh is only good if you use ethernet backhaul or powerline.

          • @Penguin8213: Dunno what you just said but I have it setup at home and it's fine for what I use it for. Have too many bad experiences and money with extender so don't really want to go there. YMMV

          • @Penguin8213: Ethernet, yes, powerline - not the ones I've seen but OK

Just buy a mesh WiFi router and be much happier than you would be using this. The Tenda MW3 pack isn't much more than this but will give you heaps more cover.

  • Will the USB-C adapter work with the 16" macbook pro?

  • Hijacking a thread - Anyone ever seen a Thunderbolt 3 adapter with duel Display port and power passthrough. i just want on cable to my mac that hooks it up to two displays and powers it .. seems everything is USB C and HDMI. or a huge expensive dock and still only 1 Displayport.
