  • Silly question, but how does this differ in features to ones that plug into the headphone socket?

    • This one can power direct off the iphone/ipod's battery so it less cumbersome than the others.
It also has 5 pin mini USB port so the transmitter and ipod/iPhone can be charged at the same time. It is a lot smaller, more compact and does not dangle off your phone as it is securely connected through the ipod/iphone dock connector port.

What a waste of money when you can just stream any radio station from around the world, not just local FM…

    • +1

youve got it the wrong way around.. this TRANSMITS whats playing!

    • Yes this an FM transmitter not an FM receiver. You play your ipod songs on any FM radio.
It sounds awesome on your car radio.

  • +4

I got mine on ebay for 3 dollars inc. shipping. Not the same model but does its thing, even comes with a mini remote. I guess you'll be paying for the auto scan? Not a feature I would pay for. Thats just me though.

    • -3

I seriously doubt it has the same sound or build quality. Many of them sold on ebay fall apart soon after the warranty runs out if they have a warranty at all. They also sound very tinny with low base and very scratchy. You get what you pay for. This is guaranteed to work as well as the Griffin iTrip or I will give you your money back and iTrip's sell for $60 to $80 plus.

Hi, are low power radio transmitters such as these legal in Australia?

    • absolute, they sell them everywhere jb hifi etc

    • Well similar products are sold in many stores such as Apple and Dick Smith stores so I doubt they would be breaking the law. They only transmit up to 10 meters to reach your car radio so it is not going to interfere with anything.

    • +2

The maximum transmission power allowed for these devices in Australia is 10 µW (0.000001 W). In the EU it's 50 nW (0.00000005 W). So, even if they've been lazy and rolled AU and EU into one broadcast profile, you should be OK.

    • +1

Just to give you a definitive answer; Yes, these are perfectly legal in Australia.

There is a limit to broadcast band and range(ie: power output) but it's hard to hit that limit from a car given the available power. It's mostly just to prevent interference to local radio stations and emergency services (and starting your own radio station illegally I think).

I had a look at this not long ago as I when to China at the end of last year. I spent some time reading up on this and comparing it to Australian laws.

My Nokia N8 has this built in and I was planing on using this from time to time.

      I hope that helps.

    • he's thinking of the one's powered by pure heroin.

  • how is this a bargain?

you can get a similar (no brand) fm transmitter from DealExtreme for $5 shipped.

    • -3

Would you like me to send you one of mine free of charge so you can compare the quality?
Price is not everything or do you guys just like buying cheap rubbish?
Compared to a $60 Griffin iTrip I think it is a bargain.

For a retailer, that's a pretty poor attitude towards potential customers.
Not everyone is going to like what you have to offer, you need to learn how to handle that in a more appropriate manner. Being as defensive as that and insulting potential customers will put people off, including the people that have not interacted with you yet.

If this is how you react to opinions, I'd hate to see how you react to actual problems.

        • Acknowledged I was a bit terse. Yes I have to accept some people like to shop at the Reject Shop and some like to shop at David Jones. Please try and understand my frustration that many Australian online stores trying to provide quality products and excellent customer service and just cannot compete with some of the rubbish from overseas that must be subsidised. How can they even ship the item from overseas for $3 then add product cost, profit and packaging?

I also sell rechargeable batteries with high capacity. The cheap ones sold on eBay from Hong Kong are labeled 3000 mAh and test around 400 mAh. They have 99% feedback or less and many of their feedback's say the batteries are rubbish but people keep on buying them.

My 100% feedback on eBay (one of the best on eBay) demonstrates that I deal with any problems in a professional manner. I was just disappointed to get marked down two negative marks to start the deal which I think is a good deal. I guess I need to learn to grow a thicker skin.

Seems like these products are sourced in Hong Kong anyways. So I don't think comparing them to Reject shop is very fair. When your products are produced by the same people.

If people were to support you, it'd be for a couple of things:
          1. Quicker shipping
          2. Customer Service
          3. Aussie online store

You have admitted your fault in attitude so thats a good thing :). I will remove my neg. Just like in the papers today, Aussies are always ready to walk out on a deal if they get bad service. All the best.

        • Yes they are sourced from Hong Kong but what isn't? There are plenty of good quality products from China and there is a lot of rubbish. I spend a lot of time and money going to Honk Kong trade fares sourcing the best quality.

These are not the same quality as the Reject Shop quality I can also source the $3 ones if I want and I have in the past and had nothing but trouble with them.

Even iPhones are made in China these days.

        Hang on, hang on.

You're offering a no-name FM transmitter, and making a point of saying that it's cheaper than a name-brand device. Then, when someone tells you that another retailer is offering a similar no-name device for a much lower price, your response is not to offer any proof that your device is superior in any way to the other retailer's device, but just to re-iterate how much cheaper your device is when compared to a name-brand product, and insult not just the original poster, but everyone on this website in the process.

Please take a breath and try again, sir.

EDIT: In fact, I see that only a few minutes earlier, you made an offer of a full refund if the purchaser is not satisfied with the quality of the product. I'm not sure why you suddenly changed your tune for this poster.

        • I am sorry I have got off on the wrong foot here. Just because it is no name does not mean it is low quality. This brand is an up and coming brand. No I cannot prove the quality is superior but I can offer a money back guarantee that it does. I cannot do any more than that.
If you do not trust me you have the option of lodging a dispute with Paypal or your credit card provider if it does not live up to expectations. But it will not be necessary I have not had one Paypal claim yet that has not been resolved. Most issues are resolved before they even get to Paypal disputes.

        • I changed my tune because I obviously said the wrong thing and was quickly shot down in flames. But I have not really changed my tune, we offer a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee on all our products. You can check our policies on our website or on eBay.

        • The only similarity is the little known brand. It is in no way similar in quality. Just because the country of origin is the same and the brand is not well known does not mean it comes from the same factory, has the same quality or the same price. As I have stated earlier I can source the $3 ones also but most of them I had to give refunds for and I threw the rest on the tip.

I pay a few extra $ for these so I have to charge a few extra $ but I do not get the complaints about them like I did on the $3 jobs.

About a year ago, I bought two FM transmitters for our family cars. These were the cradle type of FM transmitter. One was from Deal-Extreme (at $20), and one was a Cygnett ($70 on sale). The Cygnett was given a huge fanfare as being the best thing ever.

The point is that the two units were identical to me in audio quality, except that the Cygnett wobbles like a drunken turkey, the Cygnett turns off after about a minute if it doesn't detect audio being played - so that navigation programs don't work properly with it (ie. because the audio takes 5 seconds to kick back in and completely miss the navigation instruction), and all of the buttons are intermittent. My point is that paying more won't necessarily get you a better product… "Amen" says the OzBargain community :)

ewarehouse's product might be better than its competition, but I can guarantee you that I paid the same price for the Deal Extreme full-cradle mount as this deal - and the Deal Extreme unit is the best FM transmitter unit i've come across.

    DeWalt

    • No argument from me there but I am comparing mine with Griffin not Cygnett.
Cygnett are just rebadged cheapies. And what I have said is actually paying less for mine will get you as good a product as as a more expensive Griffin. And yes you can pay less than $20 for others but I can guarantee they will not be as good as this one. And that is a money back guarantee.

Do Cygnett offer a 30 Day money back satisfaction guarantee? No they would go broke.
I do and have been in business for 7 years and rarely get a claim or complaint.

I can understand you guys are incredulous to my claims and this is fair enough considering I just watlzed in here and expected you guys to love my products like my customers do on ebay. I can now see you guys are shrewder than the ebay community and I am going to have to work harder to earn your trust.

So to demonstrate to you how good my products are and how good my service is and to also apologise for barging in here like a bull at a gate I have set up a code " free " for the first 5 people they can have one free and hopefully they will report back here on how they find the quality.

There is only 5 available for free once they are gone they will go back to $19.99. Just choose bank deposit as your payment option so you will not have to use your credit card.

I would especially like to offer one to DeWalt for free so he can compare them to the Cygnett and Deal Extreme and settle this for once and for all. So if he misses out on the first 5 give me a call and I will arrange one.

    • +1

I should add there is a limit of one per customer on the freebies in case someone tries to claim the lot.

    • The 5 freebies have been snapped up but they are still going for $19.99.
A couple of nice people who have taken them up also have Griffin iTrips and have promised to report back here with their comparisons so we will see how they go.

  • i bought the cheapest fm transmitter thing off ebay.

plugged into my 2g iphone, I place the transmitter unit on the aerial of my boombox.

it actaully turns my boombox into a thermone

  • l am in need of a fm transmitter, so l am excited to be getting a free one! I will report back once l have tried it. Thanks rep.

  • Mine arrived today & l've got to say so far l'm impressed!! The unit is small (not big & bulky), nice quality, plugs in easily to an iPhone, is quick to scan, simple to use & best of all the sound quality has exceeded my expectations. I expected to hear a bit of static, but so far it sounds really clear. This has got to be one of the best freebies l've ever rec'd.

The only thing that is missing is a USB charge cable (USB 2.0 A MALE TO MINI B 5 PIN MALE). Thankfully l purchased this cable for something else by mistake recently, so now l have a use for it & l was able to charge my iPhone via the fm transmitter. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320665478121?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

  • i received my transmitter! order was placed over the weekend and i received it on wednesday via registered post! it was so quick, i wasn't even expecting it. it was packaged well to ensure item would not be damaged during transit. i personally own a griffin itrip which i bought off ebay for $35 + $10 shipping. while i was sourcing for an itrip earlier this year, dicksmith was selling it for approx $80. transmitter was of really good sound quality which was comparable to the itrip. i could not tell much difference. easy to use. i used it with an iphone 4 and an ipod touch 3rd gen. with the itrip, it frequently drops out if i do not use it with app support and even if i do, it still drops out at the slightest knock or bump. did not happen with ewarehouse's transmitter. i also found that ewarehouse's transmitter scanned into channels that had lesser disturbance than the itrip.

as Tanxxx has advised, USB charge cable can be easily bought on ebay and therefore allows you to charge your device during music playback. all in all a very good device. will def recommend it to anyone out there who wants to listen to their music via an iphone/ipod without changing your whole radio system in the car and anyone who wants a transmitter but doesn't want to pay too much for it! thanks rep! very very happy.
