Baccarat End Grain Cutting Board 40x40cm $41.99 Delivered @ House eBay

170
P30STYLE

For all of you who have spent good $$$ on knife deals recently, having a good cutting board can help to maintain your knife edge sharpness and reduce the amount of sharpening you have to do.

While rubber cutting boards and japanese softwood cutting boards are ideal, they usually cost a lot (over 100). The next best thing are end-grain cutting boards.

I have had my eye on this one recently as they has EOFY sales, but I think this code brings it down at the lowest. I think its made of a mix of acacia and something else (someone more expert in wood who can identify it can verify)

FEATURES
Crafted from sustainably source, rich endgrain timber
Features a natural checkerboard pattern that adds a unique and appealing touch to any table setting
Naturally oil rich and water resistant, making it the perfect choice for food preparation
Designed to brilliantly withstand heavy household use
Also suitable for presenting appetisers and snacks

They also have other Baccarat knives that would be eligible for the code, but they arent something I would purchase.

RRP is around $90 which is about right for endgrain cutting boards this size.

Same as your good quality knives; never put them in the dishwasher.

I honestly thought this was a really nice chess board at a really good price. If it weren't 10 x 10 I'd still pick it up!

  • Pity the squares aren't right for chess. Would have made a nice board.

    • Perfect for Jester Chess!

  • 10*10. Makes a good chessboard otherwise.

    • 11x10 actually.
      yes… i can count!

  • Very nice cutting board. Bought one thanks!

  • “Hand wash only. Do not soak or submerge in water.”

Yep this thing will puff up like a blow fish

  • Thanks, got one

  • does anyone have a good suggestion for a small/med sized chopping board that has rubber feet to stop it moving?

    • +1

You could potentially stick on rubber feet on to this one, or you could do what most of us do and use a tea towel or use these

      • rubber feet is better for aeration. Towel or extra layer at the bottom will potentially make the bottom mould and crack due to moisture.

Fair point, but after using you should be drying it properly.

Should also oil it once every few months, ideally every time you sharpen.

          • @KnifeEnthusiastBoi: What oil do you use? I just cannot seem to justify spending another $20+ on a bottle of board oil.

            • @williamk30: Just use paraffin oil. Bunnings sell it. I use it for all the boards I have, knife handles, salad spoons etc.

            • @williamk30: Saw this at IKEA being sold with the chopping boards.
              https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/skydd-wood-treatment-oil-indoor…

(no idea how it rates, but I just randomly reapply it on occasions)

              • @dufflover: thanks for that - i dont' knwo why i didn't even thing of those antislip mats!

              • @dufflover: Very nice! Will grab one next time I'm in Ikea. Thanks.

            • @williamk30: I use the ikea oil. It is mineral oil and made for cutting boards, I also use the same to oil my Tojiro carbon steel sashimi knife when it's not being used, and it's quite cheap!

Just look for a food grade mineral oil

    • Put an antislip mat underneath

It's a little bit messy in eBay side. The code was showing expires 01/07/2020 in the morning, but now it shows expired 30/06/2020.

Love the size of a large chopping board.. hate trying to wash it in the sink after use 😐

  • +3

My niceish chess board is 21 inches. Most tournament sized pieces won't fit this "chess board" properly because at 40x40cm, you're going to have to lop both sides off, making it even smaller. It would most likely end up 35x35cm, which is a touch under 14 inches. You're going to have to get small chess pieces and they're usually of low quality. You have a heavy board with light pieces and that's kind of pointless. You'd be better off buying a crap board in the first place.

    • …shiny1 knows their chess! 😉
