They make a blacked out version now called “chromax”.
But it doesn’t appear to be on sale at the moment.

    • +1

It was on sale just recently, roughly same price iirc.

      • Yeah was 160.99 for the chromax black about 20 days ago.

  • +4

this brand ever come up with a different color other than mustard vegemite?

    • +1

      17 seconds too slow haha
Literally just posted about that very thing

    • +2

There's the redux which is dark grey with light grey. The chromax line is black with coloured corner tabs. The beige/brown is kinda ugly imo but it's their brand colour much like Coke red or Pepsi blue.

    • +5

It's actually their signature, and strangely when their products aren't these colours, something feels off lol.

    • +6

Their brand was originally used by people wanting the quietest possible PC. Their fans are very quiet. People who want quiet PC's generally use a closed, thick case so never see the fans after installing them.

The colour scheme predates see-though cases and RGB lighting.

  • +15

this cooler is more expensive than my cpu

    • +25

Then you don't need such a high-end cooler for your cheap CPU. Just use the one that comes with the CPU.

    • +4

      weird flex but ok

    • +11

Yeah it doesn't come with the mounting hardware for a raspi either 😥

      • +1

If I custom loop a raspi with liquid nitrogen, can I play crysis?

        • If you're spending your time doing that you're likely going through a crisis, so almost?

    • +8

This is something that would be paired with a $400+ CPU to try squeeze more performance out of it. For lower end cpus this would be overkill.

        • +8

Is the only difference between a $300 phone and a $700 phone the price? No, one performs better.
You may not need something like this, but there are people out there who require adequate cooling and will shell out the money for it.

        • u forget it holds its resale value

      • +8

For me. It's about ahhhhhhh silence!

      • Perhaps buy a faster CPU.

        • In many instances a faster CPU will cost your multiples more than this cooler, and then you'll still need to spend just as much on a cooler if you want it to be quiet.

      • What are you doing that you would so much power?

    • +1

If you are pairing this with a cheaper cpu you are doing it wrong.

There’s a reason those cheap cpus comes with stock fans. Stick to those and leave it to people who know what they are doing, do what they like.

    • +1

you need something like this if you buy a K series intel processor
      not sure on AMDs

    • +1

I don't think you know anything about computers…
People would pay a lot more than $146 for a 1GHz improvement or even .5GHz on the same cpu.

      • -7

Well that's a complete waste haha

$146 for even 1ghz does not translate into the improvement u think it would lol. Maybe just for a mindeless flex

        • +1

Some people are more triggered by the noise produced by lower quality coolers rather than caring about the .5ghz improvement for a CPU that is already plenty fast.

    • +1

Cant have too many negs for this comment

    • "This product isnt something i want or need so it is a complete ripoff and has no place on the market"

    • Had the nh-d14, the previous one, on my last computer. The CPU was O/C 1.4ghz (2.8-4.2) and was used for rendering and video editing for 10 years. Still works flawlessly, and I put it down to not just a good cpu die, but keeping it under 50c even when running at 100%. Coolers do more than allow a good oc.

  • -6

This is the perfect cooler if you've got an old computer case with no side window so you don't have to look at this monstrosity

    • +32

i recommend purchasing a computer screen to look at.

      • Pretty sure you can buy a case with a screen built in

    • +1

Lol that's exactly what I have going on. One of these ugly Noctua ones in my Optiplex machine. Works really Newell though, will definitely be buying from Noctua again. Don't really care about looks tbh. I mean, how often are you starting at your PC?

      • +2

        how newell? gabe newell?

        • Lol typo. Meant just well not Newell 😂😛

      • Every morning (I start at my PC).

        • Ah, meant staring, typo

    • +1

Why are morons downvoting this? It is bloody true. While the cooler might be fugly, it does have great performance though.

      • -3

They probably think it's moronic to give a shit about what a box under a desk looks like.

And since no other non-custom cooler performs as well as this so you will be exchanging looks for more noise or slower computer which is actually moronic. These are the kind of people that buy lights instead of performance so they can look at a box.

  • +5

When it comes to Noctua products, I find Newegg normally will be cheaper than local retailers (not in this case): https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Noctua-CPU-Fans-Heatsink…

    • +2

This. You can buy direct from Noctua on Newegg. I recently bought it and it was $114 or so delivered, and delivery was super quick (from Taiwan). Although just checked and it is not that cheap at the moment…

    • Indeed, it was $89 (before GST i believe) previously.

  • +28

I don’t understand the people who would have a rig with a need for CPU cooling as good as this also think it needs to look flashy. This product is about performance, not impressing some 13 year old. Don’t even get me started on RGB…

    • +2

Not for me but i can understand some peoples desire for form over function. To each their own.

    • They like RGB as a wank factor.

      • +1

"Wank factor" not flagged as inappropriate - that's a keeper

    • +3

dB, rpm and amount of air moved matters most for me. I’m old school and it’s partly because my cable management is nothing to show off for. So I stick to full enclosed cases. I do like to look at & admire others rgb build (there was a really nice portal theme one )but no interests to make one for myself.

    • I will usually never take form over function, but if the black version would've cost another $6 I'd jump on it. With Chromax costing another $50 though hell nah.

    • +2

      Why not both?

    • +3

People who would buy this don't give a shit about its colours. People complaining about it aren't the ones who need this anyway.

    • So you'll think my NZXT Kraken Z63 is a waste of money too then.. :)

      • +1

Yeah, it's expensive while noisier for the same performance level. When it cools better it does so by two degrees while being significantly noisier. To me it only makes sense if you cannot fit the D15.

        • Yeah I've got a mITX build so room is limited.

        • You forgot to add that it'll gunk up and need to be replaced after two years.

  • +12

Absolutely awesome cpu cooler. Replaced my failed AIO (corsair H100i) with this beauty and haven't turned back. It's completely turned me off AIO coolers as it's so basic that nothing can go wrong. No longer have to worry about a pump, reservoir, tubing or even software to control the whole thing.

    • Thanks for posting that. I've been wondering whether to get an AIO (as opposed to this very Noctua fan), and was going to ask here about it - but you've answered my question :)

      • I went with a 360mm cheap AIO 6 months ago. Just returned it via RMA as the pump was noisy and got a big air cooler from be quiet. My temps are lower and with less noise. Big air is still a great way to go unless you pay top dollar for a top range AIO.

      • +5

Here's an extremely comprehensive review of air cooled vs AIO coolers

TLDR: Unless you really want an AIO liquid cooler, stick with plain old air cooled as they have less to go wrong

    • -3

these are about the equivalent of some of the lower end AIO systems.
main advantage of them is not having a giant heatsink hanging off the board

    • Had a H100i too, the only PC part I've just chucked into the bin.

    • +1

      Came here to say this.

Linus did a comparison with this d15 against AIO coolers, and I think even some custom liquid cooling, and basically said go the d15 for price performance and safety, unless you are building a custom cooling solution for the fun of it (and there is fun to be had, I'd concede).

  • +4

Make sure you check your RAM and Case clearances. This is a big cooler.

    • Those look like they come with 1 fan and you still have to pay shipping. Correct me if I'm wrong.

      • -4

        That's the NH-D15S: you're wrong. :P

EDIT: Here's the updated link to weed out the NH-D15S results.

        And here's the NH-D14 deal that's still running: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543037

        • Bruh the one going for $136 doesn't even have an image and has a messed up title, there's one for $156 at Megabuy but that's above OP's deal's price. If you want local stock though you can't beat it. The one at Umart has no stock.

Edit: Centrecom has it for $143 in stock with free shipping though not on Staticice.

          • @Void: They're both pre-order pages, please read the Amazon page. Someone has posted a better deal from Centrecom further down, and there will likely be price drops due to stock rolling in over the next few weeks (literally ships coming in). It's also US stock.

People who aren't buying to use tomorrow should understand the going rate, that's the whole point of this website.

    • +1

      NH-D15S ≠ NH-D15

      • -4
        • +2

          Mate, no stock.

          • -7

@O O: Both have an availability date for July 6th, so you might want to re-think your detective skills.

        • +2

Lol so fast to neg and yet u haven't properly checked each link on there

Msy is in stock at $159 Not including shipping.

Megabuy is in stock at $155 not including shipping.

Not an amazing deal but it still is.

            • +1

@jasswolf: The only reason i'm not going to bother insulting you is because my post would get deleted… maybe have a read of the guidelines about what is a deal & what isn't.

Deal prices are current prices… were they cheaper before yes, just because it was cheaper before does not mean this isn't deal learn to use your brain.

Thats like saying graphics cards were cheaper a few months ago so go neg all of them now. Lmao.

              • -1

@Tehcookiemonsta: They were literally $130 a couple of months ago from AU retailers… also go and familiarise yourself with the Noctua store on Newegg:

                https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/Noctua-Cooling-Solutions…

                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543037

                • +1

@jasswolf: It makes no difference if they were cheaper few months ago according to the guidelines so what don't you understand.

Newegg's prices at the moment are also not better than this…

                  Learn to read guidelines lmao.

                  • -2

@Tehcookiemonsta: The NH-D14 is literally in stock, and is maybe a degree or two in difference due to slightly less efficient designs.

If you're not even bothering to click links, I'm done here.

                    • @jasswolf: Not comparing the same items… so again guudelines…

Eitherway someone unlike you has actually found a cheaper price thats In Stock…

                • +1

                  @jasswolf: https://www.newegg.com/global/au-en/noctua-nh-d15/p/N82E1683…

                  $165

                  So what’s your point?

                  NH-D14 is a different product. Doesn’t matter if they’re similar. It’s a different product.

                  • -1

                    @prkr: Someone's already posted a better deal from Centrecom…

The boats sending over the fresh stock are arriving, and Amazon is trying to cash in while they can. I've had my neg taken away because none of you can do 10 minutes of product research, so cheers for that.

  • +2

I've still got one of these running on my 3770k. Still just as quiet. They are the best.

  • +13
  • +2

Although I'm more likely to go with a 3900X (and this fan would be fine), would this fan still be good on a 3950X (I've read people recommend AIOs instead)? Roll on Cyber Monday.

    • +1

The 3950x actually runs cooler than the 3900x :)

      • Until you all-core overclock it :)

    • +1

It beats comparatively priced liquid coolers in both temperature and noise output.
