Navig8r 4.3 Inch L43 Bluetooth GPS - $179.00 + 9.95 p/p at Daily Deals - NOW $259+p&p

40

This unit was on Catch of the Day in early May at $258.65 delivered. I bought one and have been very impressed by it.

This current price of $188.95 delivered is very cheap for a wide screen GPS. It is a well featured unit with excellent navigation, video and MP3 player functions and a very well done Bluetooth hands free. The only thing that bugged me was that it did not come with an AC charger.

Late last week I saw this at my local H/Norman store at their best price of $360 (It did come with the accessory pack though).

  • Cheers Ozem61 … just bought one on your recommendation above.

  • The good thing about these generic Chinese 4.3" PNA units is that you can load other navigation software onto them via the SD card. I bought a similar unit from ebay and can run Route66 and iGO (same software as MioMap - used by expensive Mio units). Check out navsoon.org for different types of software and map updates including POIs, etc.

    • Thanks Stix. Do you know what the L43 equates to on the navsoon site: eg: navsoon 4210?

      • Not sure but I don't think you'll need to worry about that part. Just download the software from the relevant threads and copy it to the SD card. Hopefully this Laser model will have an option in the setup to specify which exe to run for the Navigation selection - most, if not all of these type of units will run the navigation software straight from the SD card. If not, you can hack most GPS units running CE 4.2 to get to Explorer and run it from there.

  • Can i charge this GPS device with the USB cable? Thanks.

  • I bought one now…thanks for the advice from Stix on using other software. What else can we do with these gizmos?

    • Most of these type of GPS units run Windows CE 4.2 which can be hacked to get to Explorer to run different types of Windows apps from the SD card.

      • That's quite interesting. So, what have you done or can you point me to any websites that I can check that out.

The navsoon site is good. I found GPS Australia to be good too.

I think the Video option is great, especially on long trips. Do you know if we can run video from a USB drive? Cannot find that info anywhere.

        • Here's some apps: http://www.navsoon.org/wince-applications-games-f7.html

I don't think you can run videos from usb drives so you might have to carry a few SD cards - they're cheap as chips nowadays anyway. Just be careful though - I can play DivX TV rips on mine, but the video is a tiny bit choppy. It might be worth converting them down to a lower res for smoother playback.

  • If you check the same link now it is $259…they must have seen the demand and increased the price. Lucky for people how bought it at the original price.

  • Updated the title - was too good to be true :((

    Ozzie

  • I bought one before they increased the price :D

  • Looks like they have even sold out at $259 + P&H. Now CotD is selling 19" LCD at the moment.

  • those who bought this (pw2002au, sihit, jctt) - how is the quality of maps?. Is the bluetooth handsfree is usable?. Thx.
