"Pioneer" isn't a brand as such. They just relabel whatever they can get their hands on. Quality/reliability/support will be all over the shop. I would go for a proper brand; Crucial/Sandisk/Samsung/Western Digital or even Seagate.
Crucial example: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543706
Very slow drive. Makes the Samsung QVO look like a speed demon.
Samsung 860 QVO SSD 1TB $155 Shipped ($136 after Cashback) @ Centre Com
Very slow? They are both SATA-6G, both 500-550MB/s, how do you define "very"? This one is actually TLC vs QLC used by QVO, I'd say TLC wins despite price difference.
Could you please elaborate?
What more do you need? TLC beats QLC, end of story.
PS. I don't know which idiot decide to down vote me, whoever it is, are true idiots. I hope they enjoy QLC and never gets TLC/MLC.
@dotJaz: The Pioneer is DRAM-less. Would you still choose it over the QVO?
@dotJaz: Yeah , If your not part of the club you get down voted , even if you are right.
@RichardZed: I didn't downvote, but as someone new to the world of PC building their answer did not help me to understand why one drive would be better than the other.
@dotJaz: i have both qlc and tlc, 0 real world performance difference for me
sure, if your specific use case requires a tlc, i.e if you are working with very large files, get the tlc, but for most people it's not necessary at all
it's not as simple as "tlc beats qlc", not a game of rock paper scissors lol, things in real life are often more nuanced and not black and white
Sustained read/write speeds are only part of the picture
I don't understand what makes you think it's slower than most other SSD's out there in that price range.
550 MB/s; Write Speed (MAX): 490 MB/s is pretty much topped out Sata 6G.There's more to SSDs than just the sequential read/write speeds, though. IMO, 4k random read/writes are arguably more important as that's what will make a system feel faster or slower
There is of course , but when comparing to the qvo's you won't be better off and possibly worse off.
@RichardZed: No one has mentioned warranty here.. From what I could find this drive only has a 160tbw/3year warranty and the Samsung qvo has 360tbw/3year.. Clearly the arguments about the longevity of tlc vs qlc are moot if Samsung can guarantee more write endurance on their qlc drives compared to cheaper tlc drives like this one.
@Tythefly86: True, however Personally I would not go the QVO track myself they get really slow very quick and I tend to work with large files and was looking for a cheap storage media to compliment my NVME's but almost 7 minutes for 30Gig file using QVO is just way to long to wait.
DRAM-less drive? Googled the product model name and got brought to TechRadar which says the drive is a budget DRAMless drive and there's no mention of host memory buffer implementation. Not very budget if it happens to be more expensive than Samsung QVO 1TB.
Never mind.
At this price point you got so many better options from some good storage brands
Could you please link some of these better options at the same price.TIA.
well, if you insist
samsung ssd 1tb, after cash back $140, plus like others mentioned, this is a re-brand product, unless you are desperate to save a few bucks. i personally will pay more for reputable brand.

Link doesn't work
@Orion au: check this original link mate, it had the distributors eligible for the cashback
Samsung 860 EVO is $165 After Cashback
Free Pick up in Sydney or $8 Delivery to my address in NSW.
5 Year Warranty Samsung VS 3 Year Warranty
600 TB TBW Samsung vs 360 TB TBW
For the price i'd prefer to get the better endurance & warranty, would also say their speeds would be better than some re-branded SSD.

This might be still available.
Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" SSD: 1TB $195 ($161 after CB) + Delivery OR Free C&C @ Online Computer
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/545779?utm_source=subscrip…It's Still available & definitely a better buy for the extra Money.
bought a qvo instead for $136 after cashback
Pioneer…what year is it.
When the 860 EVO is $161, I'd stay far away from this.
Too right! For $11 more it's a no brainer. Samsung make all of their own hardware in house. This pioneer drive will be a mixmatch of whatever they could get cheap imo. Also it's 600tbw/5yr vs 160tbw/3yr. It's worth it for the warranty alone.
It still wouldn't surprise me if this sells out. Some people be dumb af lol.

Found this similar priced drive in the similar items section.
Can anyone more PC literate comment on whether either of these would make good extra drives for a PC.
