Dual core for $1500. Wtf Apple.

Careful, you will hurt some people's feeling when you start talking spec! 😉

    • I'm surprised you haven't been negged to oblivion by the fanbase. "But it's an Apple product!"

To be fair the resale value is always better with Apple, that's one consolation I guess.

Ssssshhhh apple purchasers don't like common sense.

  • I was in Costco yesterday and they sell MacBook Air 2020 I3 (10th-generation, 8gb+256gb) model for $1499.99, which is $100 cheaper than Apple store. Any recommendations between these 2 at same price tag?

The i3 10th gen is more powerful than this 8th gen i5. Just check the spec at Costco. Most likely it will be a quad core i3 vs this dual core i5.

def 2020, i3 2020 has the more durable keyboard that will last with the same no. of cores in 2018 i5. but keep in mind that MacBook airs don't have a fan that cools the CPU. the fan is not connected to a heat pipe, so expect crazy overheating on some tasks.

This! The greatest upgrade to 2020 MacBook Air and Pro 13" is the keyboard. Noone should buy the old versions with butterfly keyboards.

I recently bought the 2020 MBA through the Apple Education store for my son. Price for base i3 model there is $1439 and I opted for an extra $100 to upgrade to i5, so total delivered price was $1539.

      • does apple check if you are a student to avail the educational pricing?

        • instore yes, online now

        • Not for me or another friend that also bought for his kids (all online purchases). But can’t say that’s always going to be the case. Not sure what proof might be requested, but I was ready to provide my son’s high school student ID if required.

Advantage of buying from Apple directly is the custom options plus the standard 14-day return policy.

Thank you, this is a very cost effective upgrade!

2020 has the fixed keyboard and equal or better performance. I wouldn't buy till Tuesday though as the rumour mill is pretty confident Apple will announce their ARM Mac strategy during this year's WWDC keynote.

    • +1

The 2020 10th gen for sure. However, I would hold off buying for a couple extra days. Apple’s WWDC event is happening on Tuesday. It’s rumoured they’ll be announcing a move to switch to Apples own processor designs instead of intels.

New MacBooks with these processors won’t be coming anytime soon but at least you’ll be able to make an informed decision with the info that’s rumoured to be presented.

Still would look at x86 at the moment. I remember the switch from PowerPC to x86 being not smooth and don't expect the switch to ARM to be any different.

  • Apple got iOS running on x86 Cpu’s?

    • +1

Doubt the Costco inventory person knows anything about specs

    • Somewhere in their labs I'm sure it is. Just like OSX was being developed for PowerPC and x86 concurrently for a long time.

The butterfly keyboard alone is a reason to avoid buying. You can get the base model 2020 MBA at this price, it's a no brainer.

Agree with others, u’d be mad to buy last year model at this price. Buy 2020 model instead, it’s a major upgrade in many ways
