      Huh? There's a 3500X + 2070 Super deal right in the listing.

Looking for a PC for my son who is turning 11 and mainly plays Roblox and Minecraft. Any recommendations from the community? Is it realistic to get something for $600-$800?

    • +13

The $999 machine will be more than sufficient for your son.

Is it realistic to get something for $600-$800?

not if you want a monitor too… unless you get a 2nd hand one from facebook marketplace or a refurb off ebay.

      • Yep, I have a spare monitor etc so just need the PC itself

          • @jv: I would suggest a refurbished one like this, however not for that price, these change hands for $300 any day of the week and with a slightly better graphics card it can go pretty well for ~$600

            • -3

              @Drakesy:

and with a slightly better graphics card it can go pretty well for ~$600

              facebook marketplace…

          • +2

@jv: I've worked out that that's the price the seller has to flog it at to make his time and expenses worthwhile. Used OEM PCs with 3rd & 4th gen i7s are what most people target and they go for around $350-400 with 16GB and SSD. Toss in a newly released low profile 1650 and that's another $285. Easily $600+ all up.

Now compare this with building a brand new low-budget SFF gaming PC:

            • CPU = $170
            • m-ITX Motherboard = $220
            • RAM = $110
            • Case = $65
            • PSU = $80
            • Cooler = $100
            • GPU = $285
            • TOTAL = $1,030
    • +3

We're not looking too much under $999 for EOFYS, just with supply chains as they are and the components they use, so really focusing on mid to high tier.

Hey mate, are you please able to help me with a purchase ive made with techfast. My emails have straight been ignored the last 5 days.

    • Roblox and Minecraft? This machine will destroy them. My son plays APEX and Fortnight - This machine will destroy those also.

      • +1

Was that your son that told me to go f myself last night on APEX?

        • +3

No i think that was my son lol.

I'll need to have a chat with him!

        • Eh? Strange response - are you trying to be funny? No my son is very respectful, only plays when me or his mum are in the room - and he's not allowed to use a mic. Also if the conversations get too grown up or nasty we mute the voices.

He's only 6 - I'd love to see the faces of the "grown-ups" that he beats online if they knew that the APEX CHAMPION was a 6 year old. He's won at least 20 games despite having only played the latest season. His favourite character is LOBA.

          Bring it on buddy.

          • +1

@JokerOZ: I hear your son can bullseye womp rats in his T-16. They're not much bigger than 2 metres

          • +3

@JokerOZ: No I wasn't trying to be funny. I think he was really your son.

          • +1

@JokerOZ: This is going to be the new version of "my kid's better than yours at footy".

            • +1

@RC13: And here I was thinking 20 wins in COD WARZONE was a good accomplishment. Now I find out some 6 year old has 20 APEX wins in the latest season. I need to re think my life as a grown ass man

              • +1

@Mozzlah: You reckon his kid got more than 20 wins on fortnite?

                • +1

@michaelTito: Honestly very possible. My nephews are only 2 and 4 years older and they collect heaps of wins on fortnite (No flex). I think gamers are evolving young now

    • Check your local Facebook marketplace and gumtree listings, you'll find something in that price range

    • +5

This basic question is posed in every one of these threads - you will run Minecraft on a shitty laptop with dedicated graphics let alone on a 2060.

      • -7

It's all about street cred during play dates though…

    • +1

Buy a refurbished SFF pc and plop in a gtx 1050 low profile card. It'll cost you less than $600.

    • +3

      Mate, ignore the sneering replies.

This is a good place to work out a system.

      https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_gaming_con…

I've just built my first Pc from this. I don't want to turn you away from Techfast as they provide excellent builds but they have said it's not their focus right now.

Don't forget the monitor costs and all the other bits.

I have an 11 year old son that plays fortnite, roblox and minecraft too.

      • +1

Thanks - great school holiday project. Appreciate the link.

    • It will be fine, but please don't buy this. This is one of their worst deals yet, and if you wait out COVID or at least a better deal you can get a far better PC. In December I got a 3500X and RX 5700 for this price, and there was just a 3500X + 2060. Not to mention the weak CPU, which is quite important for Minecraft. Regardless these are all sufficient but you can get something better.

  • +2

    Ah you're killing me - just built a budget 3200g, case, 16gb 2666, b450 tomahawk, 650watt psu for 550. You're offering 4 more threads, an ssd AND a 2060rtx!?! Great deal! crying.

  • +6

    Ryzen 5 3500X | RTX 2060 6GB Gaming PC [B350/240G]: $999 seems to have expired. Shame I want one

    • Yeah this one is better than this deal

      • Good to know - worried if I should change that order. Still hasn't ship as of 4.14pm…. checking much.

        • you'll be waiting upto 2-3weeks business days

          • @Jackkkkkk: Yeah which is fine. Realisticly won't be here until next week now. But @ 16th business day, so getting closer :-)

  • I'm confused by the pricing of the 3700x system. This deal has the same specs but a 480SSD instead of the 240m.2, and with a 2070S this deal is $218 dearer.

    • +2

Understandable, but it's not really intended to line up with other specials as they're discounted differently (i.e. at a whim). If someone is looking for 3700X / 2070S they would definitely be better off with a dedicated combo deal.

      • +1

Fair enough - thanks for always being transparent.

If there was a way I could sign away a portion of my warranty and install my own GPU I'd be all over this like a rash. Want a PC now but want a 30xx GPU later >_<

      • The case is out of stock :( I had it in my shopping cart! Are you able to modify to the deal to use another case or it this deal done and dusted now?

  • +2

Can you upgrade to Ryzen 5 3500X for same price? last month deal seems to be better then this end of year sale.

    • This one has 16GB RAM, 3500X deal had 8GB. Some component pricing has shifted too.

      • +1

Prices of components should be going down, not up, no?

        • Well I compared a PC I bought off techfast 1 month ago and the current PC on offer with exact same parts (Except the case upgrade) and the pricing has come down by $240 (Give another $120 for case upgrade) and its still lower by $120.

  • 3700X deal is expensive if i choose to upgrade components.

    Upgrades
    * 32GB DDR3200
    * 550W Modular 80+ Gold PSU
    * Radeon 5600 XT

Comes to $1588 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/THH7jp and i can probably save $50 on top by buying 3700X from Amazon US. I only went Aorus instead of Mortar because Mortar seems to be out of stock but is for similar price anyway.

With Techfast's build, just upgrading RAM to 32GB 3200 and going with GTX 1660 upgrade and leaving the budget 750W PSU already gets to $1647+Shipping.

    • I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but does the pcpartpicker price include shipping? Is it just showing the stores and I have to order through the stores website directly? Because if I do that the shipping for all parts really adds up. Like $16 per component to my address

      • +1

no, it doesn't factor in shipping costs, Amazon Prime/Ebay Plus shipping etc. the sell price of the item.

edit, but you can select a preferred retailer and compare them vs looking at each component from separate places. Then work out from there is the difference worth the postage/hassle/wait times.

        • +1

Cheers for the info. I've got the Ryzen 5 3500X /2060 techfast deal on order but next time I'd like to spend a bit of time and put together a build myself.

          • +1

@helpdesk: You wouldn't save money, but the experience for sure is nice.

  • +1

The mortar max is a very nice motherboard. I have it paired with a 3700x. The only downside I see is, when I update the bios, the settings will get erased (even the saved ones) and I need to reconfigure it. Not a big problem for me though.

  • -4

B350 MB Ouch. Probably from China.

    • +1

I have it, it allowed me to OC my 2666 RAM to 3733. It has everything I'd need, but it doesn't have the nice features like BIOS flash, debug lights and CMOS button but tbf this is a prebuilt, they don't expect someone to give a shit about this. It was a Biostar B45M2, I believe they switched it at some point.

  • +1

    Any b550 deals soon?

    • Probably not. They've only just started introducing B450 into their base configs.

  • +2

Should mention again that Tax Invoice is provided and Gaming can be removed on request!

    • Do The ATO look at that on the receipts? My new dell monitor has gaming in it.
Bit ridiculous as people can Game on any computer that isn't a gaming one.

Only if audited of course :)

  • +1

    inb4muhvrmselitists

    • Say wut

      • They got in before the VRM elitists who will yell and say everyone should get it with the Mortar MAX.

  • Did people get their stuff from the previous deals?

    • Got the previous deal 2060 3500x. Its shipped arriving early next week, shame as I got impatient and built my own pc in the meantime ><

  • +2

The main issue I have with techfast is that the PSU is a timebomb, and I don't want to fork out an extra ~$100 or so for a gold standard PSU which I don't need. I'd be happy to top up a little for a proper brand bronze rated PSU.

  • I'm not really into gaming but am looking for a desktop to do some video /photo editing and that's pretty snappy…I also use some charting software. I want it to be future proof, but don't want to spend more than $1000-1200 max. Would any of these be suitable, or perhaps a Dell with 20% off on Ebay? Advice needed please!

    • +1

Imo this is an ok-ish deal, but make sure to upgrade the PSU ($99). The stock PSU is a ticking time bomb. The rtx 2060 gpu itself retails for around $600.

  • the rtx 2060 alone is like $600 ??

  • They have some amazing one of a kind deals like the upgrade to 1tb 2.5" is $10 cheaper than the upgrade to the 480gb 2.5" for the 3700x build

  • anything similar to this?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/491134

  • $1500ish for The ryzen 7 3700x and RTX 2060s is a pretty good price point for a pre-built, building a similar system but have been grabbing parts from everywhere when a good deal comes up.. bit painful haha.

Guess some people say drop the CPU spec and add better GPU if just for games but good for Hybrid machines and cad etc, can always upgrade GPU down the track.

  • Are the generic power supplies reliable? Looking for a friend, when I bought mine from techfast I had a bronze one but my mate's tryna squeeze the most out of his budget.

    • +1

Just wait out warranty and replace.

    • No, it's a bomb. If you want to purchase techfast systems, go for the gold rated PSU, at least they use reliable brands.

      • I am going to defuse the bomb after just purchasing an EVGA Supernova G2 750W for $135!

  • Gross why would you pair a 3100 with a 2060? A 3300X and 1660 Super would be almost indentical.

  • Where had all the 5700xt deals gone?

    • Tbh you don't want it. They use the MECH OC, which gets 110 Tj Max.

  • Nice deals. I have the MSI B450 Mortar Max and it's a great board with high quality VRM. Will also be fully compatible with Ryzen 4000.

  • No love for 5700 XT?

    • Fixed, thanks.

  • +2

I bought a pc from here, it was late and DOA. I ordered it on may 23rd and got it June 19th, plugged it into my monitor and it had a dead graphics card. Having a bad experience with the techsupport they're going to fix it which is ok I suppose as it is under warranty but are definitely avoiding compensating me for my trouble.

  • Hi Luke, I'm looking to buy a couple of PCs for office use that would be good for editing - not as geared at gaming. Do you have any good deals on builds that are perhaps a bit more low-key, preferably without LEDs and a beastly GPU? Cap of about $1400 per unit.

  • I don't play games a lot but watch netflix and movies(1080p, 1440p and maybe 4k). Will RX 550 4 GB would suffice for this? I am thinking of pairing it with 3700X.
