Good for consolidating debts in the first 12 months. After that the annual fee will kick in

    • +2

Pay off before annual fee kicks in and cancel the card. Used to do that a lot, whenever I had big purchases. If you've got high credit limit, u can technically buy a car and spread it out over 12 - 18 months (on some cards) at 0%

      • Funny you said that i did actually bought my current car with a cheque of 12k from citibank signature BT 0% and free annual fee for life, remember that they could do this couple of years back? Amazing time

        • Nice. I did the same with white goods and furniture when I first bought my place. Fun times juggling between cards

Can convert the 100000 Q Rewards points in to about $260 worth of Wish giftcards.

should be able to do $300 if you can spend $3,700 ($700 more than the minimum)

    • or 33,333 velocity points (if they're worth anything) or i'm assuming the same value in flybuys

  • What is the minimum credit limit?

    • Ok found the answer. It’s 6k minimum.

  • Usually they will only require payslips, now they require copy of DL, Medicare, payslip. Nowadays it is not as easy as many years ago applying for credit card.

    • There was nothing difficult in the application process and I was pleasantly surprised to receive approval less than 12 hours after emailing the required information.

can we get the points first and then request for BT later? or only can get one of them?

This is a Citi issued card, so if you've had issues with Citibank before this card probably won't work for you.

I don't know if BOQ handle customer service or if you get to deal with the joy that is Citi Customer Service if you have issues.

    • This is a Citi issued card … I don't know if BOQ handle customer service or if you get to deal with the joy that is Citi Customer Service…

Thanks for the warning, I had no idea this was backed by Citibank. I've tried them once before, and it was more than enough for a lifetime. I'll never touch Citibank with a bargepole again.

    • My application was rejected with reason I have a bad report from Citibank, which I denied as I have never paying late, just almost never used the card for a few years now. Then they backed out saying it can be from other financial institution too. I checked Credit Simple and I couldn't see if I have any bad report for the past year or two. I have completely no idea why they rejected it.

  • Op - any idea on BT fees? I couldnt find any mention in the fees guide. It will be very risky to assume it as 0

They don't make it clear, but I found this:

What is a Balance Transfer fee and how is it calculated?
A Balance Transfer fee can be applicable on some promotional offers. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount being transferred and is added to the Balance Transfer amount.

For example, Balance Transfer amount of $10,000 with a 2% Balance Transfer Fee, results in the outstanding balance of your credit card to increase by $10,200 of which $200 is the Balance Transfer Fee.

At the end of the balance transfer period, the interest rate on any outstanding transferred balance and balance transfer fee will revert to the variable Annual Percentage Rate for Cash Advances.

      • Thanks mate! - I will steer clear as the BT fees almost negate any benefit + risks involved.

      • +1

It says “For example”, nothing to do with this offer

        • +1

that's why I prefaced the comment with "They don't make it clear, but I found this:" - no where does is specify - I have emailed them to find out

2% BT fee well hidden. not on landing page, not in fees page, though listed here, https://boq.cardservicesdirect.com.au/balancetransfer/

      • Nothing to do with current offer. Completely wrong.

        • ok, thanks.

What the heck is Q Rewards? Can it be converted to Qantas Points?

  • Sorry if really dumb question but is Qantas Rewards points same as Qantas Frequent Flyer Points?
    TIA

  • Shame there's still no Apple Pay or Google Pay support from BOQ - only Samsung Pay

    • not a problem if only used for balance transfer

  • Unfortunately it does not look like council rates are included in the min spend. From their q rewards terms:

"Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers… and government related transactions.
Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs). "

  • Still unsure if there is a Balance Transfer Fee for this offer. If it is not listed or shown in the fees page, chances are they are not charging this (which then makes it a decent offer)

I applied anyway, after approval you then have to call them to activate, this is when you request the balance transfer, then you can ask them about the fee. If there's a fee I just won't activate the account.

      • Nice. Keen to hear how it goes if you’re happy to share.

I’ve also heard some cards balance transfer just come with that cash balance to pay off the existing card. Wonder how this would work…

  • applied and got approved after a phone call confirming details.

    • have you confirmed the BT fee?

      • no, didn't need BT, and only used the automated phone activation service.

  • anyone got their bonus points yet?

    • Not yet, says allow 60 days from after reaching spend. Just got my first statement today.

      • do you happen to have a copy of the original T&C you could forward, thannks.

  • I spoke to BOQ and they said I wasn't on the 100,000 points for $3000 spend, but some other deal.

Does anyone have a screenshot of this deal?

edit: managed to find one in the automatic thumbnail
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/n/16/544216x.jpg

  • Could anyone who saved the T&Cs of this deal please post it.

also, surprised no one else has issues with the points coming up, as BOQ had me on some different bonus offer.

    • They have me on a 1K points per month requiring $1k spend per month???
Is that what they put you on?
      Time for a call.

      • Yes, that is what I was put on.

forward them the screenshots and T&C I posted below.

for anyone else playing at home,

I found the T&Cs, I had saved them but didn't put BOQ in the file name

    https://thydzik.com/boq-platinum-rewards-credit-card-17-june…

  • I can't work out the QRewards systems, spent $3010 and have 7610 points, seems more like 2.5 points per $1. I don't think I spent any money on bonus partners like apple or the like. Has anyone else got extra points?

    • Yes, I was trying to go for 7400 points to get enough for 3x $100 gift cards, but somehow got 12,000

  • Managed to get my bonus 100,000 points in my account today, which allowed me to get 3x $100 electronic Wish gift cards which arrived instantly.

    Closed the card.

    Thanks all.

  • Any secrets? I've hit the same problem. BOQ (Citi) claiming I signed up under different offer.
Told me to accept their far crummier offer or gl at AFCA. Fun times.

    • They seemed OK when I showed them the screenshot and blurb that the OP wrote, as I couldn't find the full T&C yet.

AFCA is actually not too bad, they will ask for the evidence. As long as you signed up in June and provide screenshots, you should be good.
Mention that BOQ link has now been removed, and ask BOQ to provide evidence of how you signed up for that deal as the screenshot was showing different.

      • Did they give you an email address to send the proof to?

Just realised my points are long overdue and I'm going to have to follow up. Tedious.

        • +1

          You can use this email
          [email protected]

          • @thydzik: Awesome, thanks :)

          • @thydzik: Unfortunately the email address is unable to assist in any way for reasons that became more apparent later. So I still had to call them and suffer the tedious game of them saying they could not see any offer.

They said they would get back to me in 2-3 business days, and I saw the 100,000 bonus points were credited within two days. Subsequently I missed a call from a number affiliated with Citibank, which I didn't think much of as they spam a lot.

But upon checking, I realised that Citibank is the card provider for BoQ and must handle all the account management enquiries. The BoQ email address won't be able to help for that reason.

Anyhow, I look forward to closing this one down (once the redemptions are received) and not having to deal with them again … until the next decent offer.
