      "like talking to a gameboy"
      LOL!
That sums up my experience of trying to hear someone on the end of the line who's in an overseas call centre (regardless of accent).

    • +1

My experience was positive lately. I applied for Black Qantas on Monday last week, uploaded documents and got approval within 4 hours followed by card in 2 days.

    • -1

ANZ basically thinks you are poor. Are you a nonessential?

      • -7

professional employed by a very large semi-public institution, you've definitely heard of it.

    • Only big 4s give such deals on credit cards and all of them have offshore support. I am curious if you use any other banks with similarly great deals which has local support as well?

      • -1

Not sure, haven't been looking intensely into it recently. Nothing wrong with offshore support, most companies do it and do it right by having fluent and educated staff, I just know ANZ doesn't.

        • understand where you are coming from. I think it could be related to the company trying to cut corners and not paying enough on the contract to get well trained and educated staff.

    • Most of my banking done with CBA for years but I went with ANZ for short period of time and during that I had best customer service by them in multiple occasions.

    • +1

"Exceeded all requirements and supplied documents from the start.
No news for a month, when asked, they scheduled a call, some Indian(ish, possibly Pakistan too) call center. Barely spoke English, could not understand basic math, call quality was like talking to a gameboy"

Exact same situation here. Application closed just like that. WTF

    • I unfortunately happen to have the same experience as you xrailgun. At this point I don't really know what I need to do to either cancel the application or to go through it. I just want an update of what's going on with the application and I can't get a straight answer.

      Any suggestion?

      • Going to be up to whether you still want the card. Personally I wasn't going to feel confident having this company handle my finances, end of the day there's a lot more at stake than a couple hundred bucks worth of reward points, so I emailed them to cancel the entire application.

        • Mind PM-ing me the email address that you use to cancel the application? I've called them 4 times and it's the exact same response.

          Much appreciated.

    • yeah. similar experience.
all my CC applications were approved in a couple of days with other banks but waiting ANZ for a month, WTF???!!!!
no replies, random call backs asking BS questions, OMFG
looks like the deal just a scam

      • was approved after 4+ weeks or so

  • +1

Does anyone know how long this offer will be running for?

    • +1

      no mention on their website

I applied back in Feb for the black, they always seemed to call back at the most inconvenient times and I had a hell of a time proving to them that the fact that I sent half my salary to the missus account (mortgage payment came out of her account) wasn’t a child maintenance payment. Then came repeat requests for same payslips. Eventually after a few calls and much back and forth they said they could only offer a 9k limit and as the min was 15k I got rejected.

Fast forward to last week and a pre Covid pay rise and a dearth of other bonus offers I thought I’d try again ( after ending the payment of half the salary to the missus account), same issues with calling at bad times and they don’t allow you to call back now. They asked me to give them three times to call and guess what, they rang at neither of those times.

I had also closed my Citi sig in the meantime which took me down to only 5k total cc limits which I think got me across the line this time.

TL:DR hard work dealing with ANZ. Don’t split your salary to an account not in joint names. Cancel other high limit CC’s before applying and include evidence of closure at the start of the process as they’ll ask for it later anyway. Include your latest PAYG statement from ATO also as they’ll probably ask for that also.

    • What's your salary? Should I even bother applying for the black with 62k was reduced to 80% the last month but back to full time now.

      • Also if you are making extra payments to your mortgage ( regularily through DD) - they take the actual amount paid and not what is the minimum monthly amount to be paid on the mortgage. The ANZ rep I was dealing with even went on to suggest dropping the HL repayments to the minimum and sending them proof. I had to speak to a manager to make them understand that it is my decision to pay more and not forced by mortgage provider -(my statements Cleary showed the minimum amount required and what I was paying)

        • Good point. Reduce mortgage payment to minimum required.

        • Just denied for the same reason at St George.
Min payment is $750 a month and I pay $2,400. They just couldnt understand it. Crazy.
          Very painful experience

      • I think you might struggle with that for the black but with their bizarre calculations who knows. I would suggest applying for the platinum to avoid the risk of an outright rejection and then when talking to them ask if you would have been eligible for black based on your circumstances. I wouldn’t change though as it might interfere with your bonus points if you apply for one thing and get another.

    • yeah the phone calls were annoying, finally answered one and they just wanted to check another credit card had been cancelled. Received this one Monday.

  • +8

Personal experience: If you have breakfree package, apply for a credit card independently and don't link it with breakfree package until you receive points. As soon as it is hooked up with breakfree package, you aren't eligible for bonus points and don't pay any annual fee.

Once you have received points, call cc team to link with breakfree package and they have no choice but to waive the fee.

    • Hi, want to know a bit more about this. I am planning to refinance with breakfree package.

Now if I choose the black card and don't link with package, they will charge $425 on day 1. So after spending min spending amount within 3 months, once I get bonus point and get $275 back, should I then link the card with package? And will they give $425 back what I paid?

      • Your 425 doesn’t get charged on the first day. I think it comes in the second billing cycle.

      • Correct, just tell them you want to link your credit card with breakfree package and the fee of $425 should be waived under breakfree package. If they beat about the bush, they are breaching package T&Cs and you will seek full refund on breakfree package annual fee of $395 as they are refusing to provide benefit as per T&Cs.

        https://www.anz.com.au/personal/home-loans/compare-home-loan…

If required, don't hesiste to lodge a complaint with AFCA.

      • Its either or - you can either have the whole annual fee waived if you link to your break-free package but you won't be credited with the points. Or you can not link it with your package pay the fees and get the points. I got the same deal last year and the broker linked it to my break-free even tho I told him not too - I didn't get any points. Had to call up to get them in the end, but they wanted the $425 paid!

    • +1

I called to link it after a successful application, and then the nice man (Aussie) on the other end explained this to me. He only said that I can waive from the second year though.

      • +2

This is what I was told too. Tipu could you please confirm how you got around it if it happened to you?

        • May be because I had existing travel adventure card linked with breakfree package. I closed it and got Qantas Black linked with breakfree instead.

  • Does anyone know if car registration payment (VicRoads) is counted towards the minimum spend?

    • Unlikely. Same as my comment above - need to check T&Cs but I would think VicRoads is considered government payment and wouldn't count.

I don't recall ever having accrued points for paying car rego by any credit card - the payment delay (30-55 days) essentially offsets the fee VicRoads charges (0.54%) so it's pretty much a net neutral paying by card vs BPAY.

I recently applied for the ANZ Black Credit Card a few weeks ago, but got cold feet and ended up cancelling after it was approved due to the nett $150 fee… Do you guys think this would affect my application for this card now?

    • so you burnt a credit enquiry and got no points? they may also say you're ineligible if you were actually approved as part of the criteria is that you can't have held an ANZ card for 12 months prior.

  • any other deals with better points offer and low fees? Just cancelled my citibank signature recently.

    • Did you have free for life on your Signature?

      • not that I knew. I signed up to the deal posted around july last year. I think I was about to get hit with $395 fee.

I just signed up to this https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…

No email or communication yet. Lets see.

        • Yeah I think the free for life offers were a few years back.

I had the ANZ Black about 5 years back when they had a free for the first year offer. I actually opened three different ANZ cards that were free for the first year and got 150,000 Qantas points all together then cancelled the cards. Little did I know opening multiple credit cards in a short period of time would give me a hit on my credit rating. Credit rating is back to “Excellent” now so thinking about going for either the ANZ Platinum or Black (not both this time haha). Or just waiting for a better offer.

          Good luck with your application!

100% agree on above comments dealing with the credit team based on a the back alley of Mumbai. I could even hear horns in the background. Rang at the most inconvenient of times. 3 different blokes from shekar, to Pradeep to Sandar rang me, each asking for something that the previous guy didn’t ask for. Even said to me couldn’t see my NOA on the email that had my payslips and other docs. Came to a talk-down on how my name on the application doesn’t match 100% with my payslip. It basically was first name, last name and my middle name was not on the payslip. I said to the bloke, u can approve or reject it. I have given you all docs. 2 hours later, get an approval email for the black card

    • +4

lol. had the calls, asked for PAYG and payslips. they dont know YTD, need more documents, its a 6k card?! had 3 calls on office hours, uploaded the documents after completed the application, they didn't receive. bad system, no email or anything. target offers for other cards came, gave up, waiting for my application to fail, they can keep the card. hahaha..

makes you wonder how much identity theft is going on farming all this out to cheap labour force….

      • +1

Exactly. Sounds disgraceful for the reputation of ANZ and for consumers.

Let alone all of the offshore jobs to support capitalist greed.

  • +1

Anyone know when does this deal end?

  • +1

Wife wants to get new couches with the sale ending 30 June. What's the processing time of ANZ and likelihood of getting the card before 30 June?

    • Apply ASAP - you might just get lucky

  • Just got a salary increase 2 weeks ago just enough income to get this card. They just need latest payslips x2 or NOA for last financial year? If last NOA then I don't think I would be eligible…

    • You can download a year to date NOA from myGov(ATO)

      • Oh really! Didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

  • For some reason I can just never get an ANZ card, not even going to bother. I'm still churning the Westpac one anyway

  • +1

I hear Qantas devalued their program again, by 20% more points required for Emirates flights https://7news.com.au/news/travel/qantas-increases-frequent-f…

    I'm seeing this card is 0.75 Q per $.

ANZ Rewards program is 1.5 ANZ points per $ for first $2000 on statement. So 1.5 ANZ converts to .5 Krisflyer points per $. I would take .5 Krisflyer over 0.75 Qantas any day, especially as that is what I am chasing.

There was a long running deal of 100k ANZ rewards (33,333 Krisflyer) and $95 annual fee, but now it's similar to this one, 60,000 ANZ rewards (20,000 Krisflyer) and no annual fee.

    • amt of taxes required to pay also went down for emirates. Also there's so many other airlines you can use so its not like you must fly emirates

  • Got rejected for the pointhacks ANZ card deal in mid-March, though I was well over the income limit. I think it must have been applying for and cancelling too many cards in the past few years. Since then I have a ~10% pay increase so thinking of having another go. Never got rejected for a card before so wondering if anyone with knowledge of such things has tips about how to play this one?

    • Plenty of tips above!

    • Opening too many lines of credit in a short period does effect your credit score, I learned by experience. You can check your credit score with each of the credit reporting agencies at creditsavvy.com.au, getcreditscore.com.au and creditsimple.com.au.

How many cards have you opened within the past few years?

  • Great to see free bonus points with no fees back on the agenda!

Should I get this or wait for a black card deal to come along?

  • Will the wish gift cards at 5% discount from cashrewards be considered as eligible purchases?

    • +1

      Yes

      • but is it considered a cash advance?

  • So I have to pay $99.50 to join Qantas Frequent Flyer or does it come free with this offer?

  • Anyone know how to set up direct debit from another bank to repay your ANZ credit card at the due date of the monthly statement? I know you can use BPay to do that but it's a manual process.

I remember there is a form to fill in then take it to the branch but seems can't find it.

      • Fun part about this form is you have to either snail mail or FAX it to them, I haven't been able to get around to either of them

        • Better than Westpac who I think require you to visit a branch…

          • @oscarmanutdfan: I guess I have no choice but to drop in an ANZ branch as well. If I have to go and post the letter at Post office, may as well drop into the branch next door - and who still having fax machine now.

People said Citibank was a pain to deal with but I've found they were the most easier to apply CC - didnt have to filling 100+ answers about your spending, can apply same type CC within few months after cancelled, can submit direct-debit document from their secure portal.

        • Reminds me of Optus Cable. Any forms you do with those guys it is the same thing.

  • -5

Received this card earlier this year from the last deal. They wanted me to visit a branch to activate the card (even when full lockdown was in effect).

I ended up destroying the card because its 2020 and I have better things to do than line up at a branch.

Seems like ANZ are a few decades behind compared to other financial institutions who I've had credit cards with. Won't bother with them again.

    • +1

      suck it up princess

      • -1

Just telling it how it is.

Can't go to a branch during business hours since I have a job that coincidentally also occurs during business hours.

And I rather do a million other things than go to one on a Saturday morning. Each to their own though.

  • I've got a St G card I need to cancel before applying. Anyone know from churning experience how long it takes to be updated as a closed account on your credit report? End of statement period? I'd want the new ANZ credit check/enquiry to see the St G account is kaput.

    • I closed a BankSA card last year towards the end of September, the closure date on it at CreditSavvy is two days after. YMMV though.

      • thanks, I wonder how quickly that actually gets updated to eg CreditSavvy - i.e. BSA actioned the closure within 2 days for you, but I wonder if that's reflected basically instantly on your report - I'm guessing not

        • +1

from my experience, creditsavvy updates their report in the beginning of the month so better to do end of the month.

other option is if you get rejected by ANZ, call them up and tell them that the credit card is already closed and send them the letter maybe?

          • @jedimaster: ha yeh just cancelled it but my gut is updated at end of statement period too. not a bad idea, but got rejected 2x for the black so not all that keen to have another rejected enquiry on my history. see how we go

            • +3

@gazer: Include your card closure letter that you get from St George on your document submission to ANZ so that they can see it's closed. no need to wait for closure on credit report.

              • @Poolprouk: yeh thanks, saw that suggestion elsewhere in comments too

  • +1

Found this from some searching the ANZ site on meeting the eligible spend and what is not included.

    Eligible spend does not include:
"Cash Equivalent Transaction’ means transfers of funds
to or from other financial institutions, foreign exchange
    transactions, travellers cheque purchases, gambling
transactions, utility bills paid in person at a bank or Australia
Post or any bills paid using the Card in conjunction with
the BPAY scheme (if the billing merchant does not accept
credit card payment using the BPAY scheme) and any other
transaction that is treated as a cash advance."

"Points will not accrue in relation to interest charges,
premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance (ANZ
Credit Card Insurance not available for new customers
from March 17th, 2018), government charges, bank
fees, payments made to the Australian Taxation Office,
card account adjustments resulting from disputed
transactions or otherwise, balance transfers, cash
advance (as defined in the ANZ Credit Cards Conditions
    of Use)."

Not gonna lie, could barely understand the guy calling from the Credit Card Verification team.

Strange how they ask for 1 payslip on the site, then always request something additional like another payslip

  • +1

Applied on 8th. Received an email a few hours later requesting payslips to upload (asked for 1 but I gave them 3). Received a text message on 9th confirming approval and 3-5 business days for my card and welcome pack.

    • do you have any existing credit cards or home loans?

      • +1

No existing credit cards or home loans

    • Am not sure if its significant but what time did you apply?

I applied on the 8th as well and I supplied payslips within minutes of the application process but haven't gotten any confirmation/rejection yet which I thought was a bit strange (other applications I've had have had same day confirmation).

      • Around 4pm

      • have you heard back from them yet regarding your application. i applied last night

      • Finally went to AFCA website and fired a complaint asking for financial compensation. If anyone is in the same boat and wants to join, happy to provide details. The situation is really disgusting and those idiots should be financially responsible for their actions

  • Rejected for the points hack deal a few months ago. Applied for this one Sunday night, received quick call Monday afternoon, approved 20 minutes later.

    • +1

Received card today. So approved on the 8th, card received 11th.

  • +2

great been waiting a few weeks for a new deal, been feeling naked without a credit card!

  • Applied on the 8th, called on the 9th, approved on the 10th.

    Nice and easy

    • they called you or did you call them?

  • This might be a dumb question but how is salary sacrifice to super considered in these applications? Is it considered by the banks as a reduction in annual income?

  • First time declined for a credit card - denied due to being on JobKeeper, thought others might like to know they deem this a centrelink money even though it does not come from centrelink. If i had just said i was not on Jobkeeper i would have been approved - very disappointed!

    • oh wow, i also was asked about jobkeeper since it was mentioned on my last payslip. seemed like a real hassle to sort so I asked to cancel the application.

    • Refused also for the first time but for a different reason. I rent and my investment property is vacant at the moment so the income cannot be taken into consideration. I have had 2 cards with them in the past with no problems. They also refused to keep the application open as I would need to provide 3 months rental income. I would have thought a tenancy agreement would suffice with one month.
