First time posting, seems like it is online only for the older generation Mac Book air.

more than a couple of hundred for the i5 version.
even so $1200 for 2015 one is not a deal
Even a dual core tenth gen i3 would outdo this one though, and you would have a better screen and USB-c.
OTOH lose MagSafe.
Yeah after using high quality mobile phone screens going back to the low resolution old macbook air feels yuck.
still cheaper at BigW if you pay via egift card
that's a good unit, still using one like that, and it performs really well + MagSafe + SD card + can upgrade storage to NVMe as well
This is my current personal machine, and I reckon it was the high point of Mac design. Although I have put a 1TB intel NVMe SSD in it.
It is a good reliable tool, but isn’t going to rock your world and the screen, while perfectly fine, is not a patch on current models that have a high res screen. I think that is too high a price for it TBH. It’s four years old.A quick look on eBay has a 2019 i5 with a vastly superior screen, thunderbolt 3/USB-c for $1550. But I am sure if one was to look around could do much better:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2019-Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-128G…My youngest daughter has the 2019 model (with extra storage), and loves it.
100% agreed - I don't need super resolution can't tell the difference anyway, and have second bigger display as main working area
just waiting for the adapter to come in, to breathe some new life in it with NVMe and I reckon it will serve for another couple years easily!
don't want to even think again how much I paid for it back then though.. :)
Thanks OP, great timing as cafes have been reopened.
I prefer going to cafes with Windows.
Clever 👏
FYI latest i5 is at 10th generation
IMO In terms of design these were the best from the entire MacBook range
Agreed. Better keyboard, durability and display (aside from resolution) than the new models, as well as useful IO ports. Screen resolution is the only downside.
the whole screen from material to resolution is crap even at the time when it was announced (TN, lowest colour range, lowest resolution)
I totally agree it's poor and was even at release considering the price, but I still personally prefer the poor viewing angles and contrast of the TN panels over the abysmal IPS in the 2018 model. Not sure if the 2019 on models are any better.
@flopsy: you can buy a screen protector that restricts the viewing angle for the newer models something like this (https://www.moshi.com/en/product/macbook-privacy-screen-prot…). My biggest thing is the colour, looks so bad IMO.
I have the mid 2011 entry level 13" Air and and besides the battery which i have swapped out, the actual form and design is flawless. I have looked after it but going on 9 years and it looks like it just left Apple, fantastic durability. Keyboard is easily the best, great trackpad - both still work the exact same as in 2011, all the right ports, magsafe charger etc.
MacBookAir7,2 I think.
So this is a 2015 model?
i would be tempted if this "old" gen of mba has a fan that blows directly at the heat sink fins, not like the new one which blows at nothing.
I wonder where BigW managed to find the stock???
Not exclusive to Big W.
Officeworks $1277
Harvey Norman $1279.The only difference is you can pay via egift cards as payment at Bigw and these are generally discounted at a minimum 5% off so brings the price down to $1215.05
Agree with you there. My reply to mikokik5's comment was to say that other stores also get the stock, so I believe it is not a one-off bulk purchase clearance.
Anyway this Macbook is still capable as a low cost carry around laptop. It is still good enough for watching Netflix, do general purpose computing and school work (many schools require students to have a Macbook Air).
EDU Store can get the 2020 with i5 Quad/8gb/256gb for $1539 (certain speciality online Apple discount stores can do this for $1477). You would have to really want this old model over the new one for such a small price difference.
Which online store can do $1477? I'm looking for air 2020 model but can't find any good price at the time.
I have a special store I can get this pricing on. I've never seen anyone else with this pricing but it lists our company so I'm sure it's not fully exclusive pricing to us. For obvious reasons I'm not going to post the link though. I'm not sure whether it even lets people purchase if their name isn't tied to the account, though I've happily bought Macs for friends/family over the years through it using my credit card (obviously they paid me back).
anyone had good experiences with Tobydealau? They have this deal atm
Apple Macbook Air 13.3 Dual-Core i5 1.8GHz 8GB 128GB Silver - MQD32 [US Keyboard]
Availability: In stock
Regular Price: AU$1,499.00
Special Price:
AU$1,259.00Sub $1000 and it's a great deal.
This price you may as well wait for a 10% deal on the 2020 model and with EOFY here plenty deals incoming.
IMO 256GB SSD / retina display / 3 colours (kids only interested in colours) on the 2020 blows away i5 CPU on this old model.
Too true, only Apple devices ppl rekon paying $1200 for a device released 4 or 5 years ago is a good deal
This is an ancient device, do people seriously think this is a good deal?
Dual-core fifth-generation Intel Core i5 processor
This should be bolded and capitalized. Latest mba have a 10th-gen Intel cpu.
Im quite sure most apple fanboys dont even know what all these specs mean. They just fly towards the glowing apple logo like moths.
At least this old machine has a glowing logo.
I’d only recommend this if it was below $800. Paying over $1000 for a 2015 machine is not a great deal. Even if you need macOS.
Just sharing - I bought 2 of these in 2015 for A$999 from David Jones.
My boys are still using them now, albeit we have had to change battery on one of them last year. But still going well.
These are really good but the price should be below A$1,000 now…
.
add couple more hundred and get the 2020 one.
