This is one of best quality 24.5'' FHD IPS 144hz monitor and currently at a decent price though not the lowest it has been but it is the current lowest price and in stock and if you purchase before 31 of May ASUS is giving away a $20 Steam gift card for this monitor via redemption website link. At the time of posting it is currently in stock in store only in VIC, NSW and QLD with multiple stores showing stock.
Comparing this ASUS monitor with the popular best budget 144hz IPS monitor AOC 24G2 which the price for AOC is now siting around $309 to $329 which makes the ASUS a bit more attractive price point being only 15% to 25% more expensive for in my opinion a slightly higher quality AU Optronics panel compared to the Panda Panel.
The pros of the ASUS VG259Q compared to the AOC 24G2 are:
- I believe the ASUS has faster response times compared to the AOC 24G2 someone on Reddit did a small review on this monitor and found it had really good response times.
- The AU Optronics panel has better viewing angels compared to the Panda panel.
- Has higher brightness at around 400 cd/m2 compared to 250 cd/m2 of AOC monitor.
- Has built in speakers for those that like low quality speaker included in their monitors.
Some cons of the ASUS VG259Q are:
- Apparently there is some issues with sharpness on text though I have not noticed this though maybe could be type to not notice it. Though I believe sharpness issues can be fixed by adjusting vividpixel and sharpness settings because ASUS chose bad default settings.
- Is only a sRGB display so does not have a wider colour gamut as the AOC though might be preferred by those who rather have standard sRGB calibration rather than default inaccurate wide gamut monitor. I believe has lower colour accuracy and some units might have some colour issues with green though from my impression it looks nice enough for gaming and general usage.
- The bezels are bigger than the AOC bezel, so AOC looks a bit better for multiple monitor setup.
- Has an external power supply personal preference I prefer monitors to have built in power supply having it weight slightly heavier than a monitor with an external power brick where the power supply could get damaged or cord broken.
Not really worth is when you can get the AOC G2 27" for $300
