Pre-builts are always value engineered. Something somewhere in the build is lesser grade or just good enough. In addition, they might skimp on cable lengths or ports. When you try to upgrade a component you'll find the power supply can't handle it or the cables dont reach. If you never plan to upgrade (use it and toss it) then a pre-built might be worth it albeit short lived. I personally always build; upgrading parts when I need to or can afford to. I haven't bought a whole build since the initial pc many years ago.

          • @Top G: You're spot on. 15 years ago when I buy my first PC, I couldn't assemble the components myself but I must handpick the component and paid a tiny fee to get it assembled. There are always half of the components I would want to swap on any of the pre-builts at any price range.

      • You can if you go with these no name brand

Their power supplies are a joke

  • +1

    Odered one, thanks!

    • Legend, thanks for your order!

    • Yep me too.

      • +1

        Guru!

  • +1

I pulled the trigger. The last one was worth the wait. Let's hope this one is too.

    • Which one did you get last time?

      • I got this one with extra RAM and a bigger SSD. My son loves it.

@luketechfast hi luke, i purchased this techfast deal on ozb last month. Unfortunately my power supply has failed and it may have caused serious issues to the other components of my PC. I have lodged support tickets with techfast and messaged twice (I can provide ticket IDs upon request) however I haven't received any responses. I find it unacceptable that I can purchase a $1500 PC yet the aftersales / warranty support is inexistence. Please DM asap.

    • +6

If it was sent from the email linked to your purchase account, I've just searched and there is nothing in our support inbox unfortunately (we don't have a ticket system), so that would explain why you haven't had an answer. I'll have to get you to email me via [email protected] as I can't PM you, or can you enable your PMs?

    • and thats why using these no-name brands is dodgy :)

      • +1

Sure is but that's what a warranty is for!

  • Definitely interested.

It's been a long time since I've even had a desktop but thinking about getting back into a bit of gaming - the odd FPS and RTS.

Is this good value for money versus maybe getting something similar built by PCCG etc?

    • "The parts and assemblies used in building TechFast products are selected from new and equivalent-to new parts and assemblies in accordance with industry practices."

I don't really understand that specific terminology.. sounds almost like used.

      • Where did that come from?

        • +1

It's on your Returns / Refunds Policy.

Care to comment any further Luke?

I'm interested in buying the machine but that has made me cautious.

          • +4

@ultimatemike: It will be updated to remove that equivalent to new phrase. Not relevant, and never has been. Surprised no one here has picked it up before because I'd never seen it!

Correction: it applied to the GTX 1070 Founders Edition cards, which had been used previously at an event and were advertised as such.

      • You would really hope it didn't mean used/refurbished. They do get non-packaged items, they could potentially fall into that category. You really wouldn't want used. If it's 100% not used, TechFast should really add a parenthesized "NOT USED".

Reasonable starter build to save on working out compatibility issues and such.
    Saving of $100 with voucher.
    Complaints of too little RAM.
16Gb RAM for an extra $89
    Sorted.
FFS, it's not a competition. Decent deal, just not high end

    • +1

(and yes, the code for $100 off still works with that upgrade)

    • Itll run games fine enough lol it can definitely handle it, just not as sweet and smooth as a high end one

    • If you upgrade ram, might as well go for the 3200mhz, it will yield a very decent improvement over 2666. But the "upgrade" cost more than that of a decend 16gb kit. The PSU is a ticking time bomb, gold rated upgrade is advisable. $1200 with the upgrade should be ok-ish, if the assembly and software setup are done right.

  • Pulled the trigger. Good deal.

    • Thanks for your order!

      • And check my email to your support too! For the order update, thanks!

Dont buy that motherboard, no m2 slot

there's only 240gb storage included so you would definately want more

    and more ram too

    • +1

Just to play devil's advocate, why care about m2 for a gaming PC? It uses two sata slots on the motherboard (my motherboard anyway), and is better suited to heavy writing done by media professionals.

    • It has an M2 slot alright, I have one

  • Damn, just brought a 2060S for $600
But did need a cheap board and midish CPU

What is the expect shipment date of these, 2 working weeks as usual ?

Also what's the expected brand of 2060?

    • Where did you bring it to?

    • Techfast GPUs are usually Galax, sometimes MSI. I could be wrong, but that seems to be what most people report getting.

By the time you factor in the cost of necessary techfast upgrades, it would be cheaper to pair that (Umart deal?) 2060S with a 3300x and utilise a higher quality case, mobo, psu plus no waiting times.

    • 2060S for $600? thats a pretty good price in these times

  • +7

Since noone is providing a list of recommended upgrades for potential buyers, I'd go ahead a list them out here (probably as a "buyer beware!"). This probably applies to any TechFast deals, in the order of most important

    • Upgrade the Power supply! This is not something to cheap out on. And is a hassle to replace on your own later or having to send entire system back for warranty. Even a 500W gold rated will be better than the base power supply. You don't want power fluctuation/failure to ruin your gaming experience, or worse ruin the whole PC.
    • Upgrade to 16GB 3200MHZ Ram. 8GB, OR 2666mhz, OR single channel will bottleneck your whole build, not worth it. The upgrade is $129, or you can buy a complete new kit for roughly the same and replace yourself, then sell the 8GB piece to recoup some loss.
    • Mainboard: another part you shouldn't cheap out. But probably not as crucial as the above 2 parts (it is just as important as the power supply, but the 3500x is not particularly demanding). If you want NVME support and/or want to upgrade CPU in 2-3 years time, bite the bullet and upgrade to MSI Mortar, this board can handle even the 3950x (non-OC), it's that good.

Now… the 3 upgrades above will bring total cost to ~$1400 after discount, which is… not that bad of a deal, you have someone to build it for you, you don't have to refresh ozbargain every hour to hunt for parts, and single point of contact in case of warranty. However, at this price point, a DIY build will give you a lot more choices for case, power supply, ssd/hdd and a bit more powerful CPU (the R5 3600). Building a PC is not that complicated, as the components are designed to be assembled without any specialized tool. I find it somewhat easier and less time-consuming than assembling IKEA furnitures, just nuts & bots that are designed to fit together.

If you're a novice and not sure about compatibility, pcpartpicker have guidelines (warning & filters) as you select your parts to minimize the risk of buying incompatible components.

Bad advice. I'd say upgrade to 32GB for $179. Makes no sense to pay $129 for 16GB.

Upgrade the Power supply! This is not something to cheap out on.

This is overall good advice, but I'd say that the PSU will be just fine. I used to work in sales and inventory management at a computer shop when I was in high school and uni, the number of PSUs that are returned DOA (even the cheapest of the cheap) are very rare and I've never actually seen any cases where a PSU has blown up and taken a computer with it.

This may have been true in the 90s, but not anymore. The reason why PSUs could kill components was because when they failed, it was possible for a voltage spike on the rail which failed, leading to a surge in current, killing (usually) your motherboard. These days, PSUs don't fail that way anymore, it'll usually be due to defective or leaking caps, or overheating leading to insulation melting and a short (which will kill the PSU, but not your components).

      • Do not need 32gb at all. Rather have 16 and faster at a cheaper price.

        • ideally I would prefer to see TF add a single stick of 3200mhz, any moron with 1 working hand can put in another 8gb stick later when budget allows ($45-$75)
they can do just the same with the 2666mhz, and it will do just fine, though not ideal, for TF the fact will be the 2666mhz will be slightly cheaper for them, and is still the intel standard, so I see why they still use the 2666mhz
as for current upgrade pricing, if you are getting TF to do this upgrade, p1 ama is correct, you would get much better value getting the 32gb upgrade(cas16 with heatsink, adata gammix d30 atm), needed for this system or not

The biostar m/b does have a m2 slot btw
          www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=934

          • @smokey and: Correction here, the new delivery of Biostar B350 mbs is this model: https://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=8… which does not have an m.2 slot. That change has been reflected on the site, where the B350 and B450 motherboard lines state what they support.

            • @luketechfast: well heck, my apologies to every one
bloody shame too, it was the one attractrive feature of still going with the biostar b360/b350's you offered

              • @smokey and: Yeah, it is a bit. Unfortunately with global supply as it is, we can only get what was available to us.

        • Do not need 32gb at all. Rather have 16

Where have I heard this statement before? https://i.redd.it/68a75x1v2ez21.jpg

Given that it's $129 for 16GB and $179 for 32GB, I'd go 32GB. It's less than half the price of an extra 16GB kit.

          • @p1 ama: 1981 he reckons 😆 😆 😆. For gaming, it's far better to have 16gb of fast memory than 32gb of average memory. You're talking about some 40 years ago when people are most likely to upgrade their systems in 5 years.

            • @gram:

For gaming, it's far better to have 16gb of fast memory than 32gb of average memory.

              It's $129 for 16GB 3200 MHz, $179 for 32GB 3200 MHz, so they're both the same speed.

In any case, if you can't see that paying $50 for 16GB more of RAM is about as cheap as you'll ever get it then I don't think I'll be able to get through to you.

              • @p1 ama: Again, from a strictly gaming perspective, you are better off saving that $50 for a game or spending that extra on a faster 16gb kit.

                • @gram:

Again, from a strictly gaming perspective, you are better off saving that $50 for a game or spending that extra on a faster 16gb kit.

Until 3 years later when you realise you need 32GB and have to end up paying $100 instead of $50 for the extra 16GB…

      • I recommended 16GB because it's essential to get the most out of what you're paying for. 32GB is personal preference, each person has different view of bang for buck so my post only focus on what I deemed really essential that buyers should be aware of.

Personally I had 2 system failed because of PSU in late 2000s and early 2010s (one from a mate who usually built PCs with me). Where I lived, a decent office lunch costs $0.5 so to have $1000 systems failed was truely heart broken and will haunt me for life. I've known people here and there have issues with power supply, most common is random crashes/BSOD which is always a pain to troubleshoot (poor Microsoft always take the blame). So… I'd strongly advise people not betting on the power supply.

        • the allied 750w seems like it would last about as good as any litepower psu (cross your fingers and hope for the best)and I'm sure will do just fine in the lower tier gamers, the 550w is an abomination that makes me feel embarrassed for TF
most of us should know that the psu is not where you try to save a little money right now though :))

  • told a few people to buy off techfast lately, but they're so so so slow at delivery. My brother is at the 31 day mark and still hasn't been dispatched.

as good value as their deals are, you're honestly better off buying local or from pccg etc and getting it delivered within a week.

    • If you're from W.A and the local being PLE, you definitely don't wanna buy from them. Their builds are outrageously priced.

  • Can anyone recommend me a work unit? Been looking at the dell optiplex 3050.

After something $400 or so and under.

    Need for work office.

    eBay refurb etc?

  • One of the only Techfast deals worth considering. It comes with a decent motherboard (not great VRMs but fine if you aren't overclocking) and probably TT Litepower PSU.

  • where do you apply the coupon?

  • soo tempting!!! even tho its slowtech. Hopefully it wont take 6 weeks again

  • Signed up to OzBargain just to comment that I finally pulled the trigger on this deal! Added the 32GB ram. thanks. Will sure be a step up from my Dell XPS laptop from 2011, complete with I7-2600 and GT540m…

Hi guys, anyone got an updated shipping ETA on this?

    • +1, @luketechfast, what's the latest ETA on delivery in June? Just ordered one too :)

      • +1

When I placed my order it said 14 business days was current estimated completion time. So I'd assume systems being ready from around 18/19th June then a week for Auspost…

  • Grabbed this!

  • Anyone in Melb want to buy my single stick of DDR4 to get dual channel memory easily PM me

  • +1

    Hi guys,
I bought this PC 2 weeks ago and I've been waiting for it, I got an email confirming the purchase but non tracking number till now. Is anyone on the same situation? What was the ETA in your case?

    • Hi. I placed an order on 29/05. The email confirmation mentioned 14 business day expected until it would be posted.

I received a generic email update yesterday confirming that generally delivery times are expected to be as per the timing provided at time of order.

SO… it is perfectly reasonable that the systems are not ready yet, if they are posted end of next week 18/19th that is still within the quoted timeframe. Then allow a week for delivery given the slow Auspost at the moment.

      • Ordered 26/5, no tracking yet.

        • Just got my tracking number 5 minutes ago. Given the Queens BD public holiday in Vic its pretty much bang on 14/15 business days.

          • @FrettRazor: My machine was delivered yesterday, all in one piece. Pretty happy, delivered as promised to the spec I ordered.

  • Hi Luke,

I've emailed your support team regarding my mobo DOA for this package oder: TF82272631.

Can you please check with your team again for the update?

It's been a couple of days and I couldn't get my system up because that DOA Biostar B450M mobo.

Let me know what's the next step.

    Thanks.
