The next freebie from the Epic Store is here.
This time it is Sid Meier's Civilization VI.
Enjoy!

Does anyone know if Civ6 allows 'cross platform' with the steam versions of Civ6. As I thought that they originally hosted the games on the steam infrastructure and not their own.
Epic and Steam are rivals, so I’d imagine it’s not possible.
As well as this game having cross play remember that Microsoft and Sony have cross play too on some games.
Appreciate the response and the link!
My friends and I tried and it worked the first time no issues (Friday) but then when we tried again Sat night, it just wouldn't connect. Hopefully it's just some one-off crossplatform teething issues as the "Unified PC play" option wasn't there before.
Never played this game before. Is it similar to Age of Empires?
no it's turn based and more strategy than tactics.
Which game should I play? The 3 games that I love and played most are Age Of King (AOE), Fire Emblem 4, and PES on PS1. Not sure which one should I try now.
Fire Emblem is turn-based. I think the storyline is what made me like it most.
do you already own aoe? if you don't ild say civilization because it's free now. but if you have aoe ild probably play that first because it's faster paced and easier to learn.
@Tifa: I meant the old AOE - 20 years ago. Haven't tried the recently released version (the one with better graphic).
No it's not. AoE is a real time strategy game whereas this is turn based.
wow epic Is the BEST!!!! They have been consistently giving games away I have been following them since they first started giving them away , seriously i hope they are taking some of steams customers to pressure steam to make their margins smaller. so NEW YOUNG developers have a chance to showcase their game without a paywall on it and also the not so lucky people to play games that are more affordable for them
I agree with the competition. Just want to clarify one thing.
New young developers are plenty on steam due to a low cost ($100 last time I checked) entry into the market place and no barriers, where previously there was greenlight. It's also why there is the reputation of plenty of trash games because of all the shovelwear from new developers.
Epics store is heavily curated to allow for as they put it, the best content for users. So you'd be highly unlikely to see new developers on there unless they were published by Humble Bundle, Paradox, Team17 or any other of the publishers that pick up small teams.

oh ithought you meant between aoe and civ in the other post. what's pes. soccer or persona? i love the fire emblem games. one weakness that ihave is i get attached to the characters and i will keep replaying a battle if any of my favorites die.
Thanks. PES I meant the Soccer.
Regarding the Fire Emblem series, which ones you have played and which you like most?
How many times will this be re-posted over the next week?
I bought Civ5 with DLCs years ago but never really enjoyed it.
Not sure if I will enjoy Civ6; should I claim it anyway?
There's no harm to claiming it, I suppose. Epic gets a little more data profiling on your account, that might be worth "free".
Free
Not sure if I will enjoy Civ6; should I claim it anyway?
Free
Ok, claimed. I refuse to hand in my OzB card. :)
you don't need to now. lol
Nice! And just after I watched this neat video essay that made me thirsty for some Civ!
Awesome post OP and I got a 'Free $15 gift'!
Redeemable on games over $22.99, I think. I didn't find anything that I wanted that was >$23 though.
There are a lot of games that qualify. You should find at least a few you like.
Make sure to check the gold/premium editions of games that are cheaper - buying gold might just push you over and make it very cheap (example, AC and Far Cry games).
That is such a shame the Mac version is not included. It's the only game that my parents have shown any interest playing along with me, and I was very excited to get them on board
Then its worth spending money on that.
Good call.
if the epic servers get nuked i blame ghandi.
This is following the previous leak, the next free games should be:
May 28th: Borderlands Handsome Collection
June 4th: Ark Survival Evolved
I though civ 6 worked on macOS?
It does, but Epic Games haven't included it on their store or this promotion :(
Damn, I need a new SSD sooner.
Don't really need one for games. I recently got a 4tb HDD to keep all my games on. Modern games (and their updates) are crazy large.
recently got a 4tb HDD
Really depends on which game, some games will need to put it onto SSD otherwise it will take forever to load.
Is this external or internal? Do you know whether I can still play if I can download the games on external HDD/SSD (something like Samsung T5)?
You can install on external but there might be a few issues. Best to install on an internal drive. You can shuck something like this and install it as an internal drive

hmm nice addition to my epic free games, but will probably never launch the game as well as the launcher anyway..
This game is really hyped. Is it really that good?
If you like Civilization-style games, then yes, it's that good. (Though there's an argument that V+DLCs is better, but that's because it was iterated on over several years.)
If you're not into turn-based strategy, then this might not be for you. It's only a 6.3GB install ("only"), so maybe worth a crack.
It's fantastic. Best game I've played in a long time. As stated above, some people prefer V, but I reckon VI with DLC is the go.
Civilizations is a great series. I remember playing the first game in the series back in the early 90s and completing the game by defeating all the civilizations to rule the entire world. The game was over but it left you wanting to play more. Those were the days.
Since I'm not as old as you ancient one, I started with the second one with the Gold Edition. Cracking game.
No complaints sire!
This is fantastic. Better freebie than GTA5 IMO.
How big is the game download?
6GB-ish.
Confirming: this deal is PC only? No Mac?
You mean Windows only? Yes, from the comments it seems that way.
The PC is a reference to IBM-compatible computers. Today, when PC is used to talk about a computer, it usually is referring to an IBM-compatible computer. By this definition, a Mac computer is not a PC, as it is not IBM-compatible.
Civ + Jobseeker = perfect combination
ahh the days of Civ. One more turn before I go to bed - honestly..lol
Already have this purchased from way back but still a great deal for those who havent got it yet
Goodbye weekend
More like Goodbye Winter 20.
You are a legend, Sir. Thank you!
Thanks Lysander! We shall build statues in your honour… literally!
Civ 5 is an amazing game. Keen to try out civ 6!
can't wait to try this game
Is this free on ps4 as well?
No
Is the correct/only way to play this via the Epic Games Launcher? I'm finding it's taking ages to load a game when you want to play a previously saved game, is that just how it is, or am I doing something wrong?
This is awesome. Never played any of the previous CIV games, thank goodness for youtube tutorials! Steep learning curve ahead!
Thank you Lysander!
That's it. I can't believe I paid $40 for this on Steam. Never buying another game again.
If you are not in a hurry to play a particular game, I certainly would recommend waiting until January 2021 to minimise the chances of this happening again.
One of my faves, can't thank you enough for this, cheers.
I have been massive fan of RTS auroa AgeOfEmpirers/O.AD and played/started to learn a bit of SimCity4. I am pretty sure I am going to enjoy CiV 6 even though I have no idea what its about :)
Claimed this for free. Was super happy for a couple of days. Signed into Steam today and realise I already own it there also (paid for it on steam long ago).
so many games……i need a awesome deal on a cheap laptop SDD so i can actually download it all and play
