12 seconds into 1.00am and you're on it - well done Lysander!

    • +7

And I have already managed to claim it. Epic is much better prepared this time.

      • +14

The demand would be nowhere near as high as for GTA V

          Damn. Missed that one :(

Thank you for the table (and the music).😊

    • +2

*Subnautica (Epic freebies introduced me to one if my favorite games)

    • +2

All of the free games i missed out on….

    • +1

Why did I not know about this sooner? So many games from my Steam wishlist here … I'm going to cry now.

      • +13

I don't want to be mean or cruel but it seems your username checks out.🤔
But seriously how could you have missed the freebies until now?
The upside is, maybe if you are lucky Epic does repeat a few as they have done that before.
Anyway, you got Civ VI which means for the next few months you are occupied anyway.😊😉

    • Hoping for Stellaris

    • And I still resent them for creating another unnecessary platform.

  • Awesome

  • +1

Who needs to pay for games anymore!?

  • +10

Guess those leaks were real then.

    • +2

At least this one. The others don't have to be. From the last leak at Christmas not all of them were correct.

      • +46

        To save people googling the leak;
        - Borderlands The Handsome Collection (May 28)
        - Ark: Survival Evolved (June 4)

  • +3

Tip for those having trouble downloading it. Put it on your wishlist and download it from your wishlist.

  • +5

Jeez.. how are they affording to give away so many AAA titles?? Putting Steam out of business soon or making someone go broke somehow. lol

    • +4

      They're splashing that Fortnite money.

I don't know if this is a good marketing strategy but who cares, free stuff!

      • +41

It's a good strategy to get high quality games onto their launcher. Kids who downloaded Epic for Fortnite and don't have access to a debit/credit card and can't spend money are getting a great library of games on Epic Store. Once they grow older and get their first part time job and debit card they can start buying games online, why wouldn't they buy games where their already existing library of games is?

        • +12

You're right. They're in for the long haul.
          Get them while they're young.
Besides, by then you'll have Civ IX and GTA 6, powered by Unreal Engine 7.

          • -1

@pull the lever: I’m still kinda hooked to csgo. Don’t think Valve would let that one slip. CS gave steam the community.

            • @Fuzor:

Don’t think Valve would let that one slip

it's literally free already.. and everything is tied to steam, there's no way to seperate the two.

          • @pull the lever: and Half Life 3 will have been released….

          • +17

@Saura: Establishing your store as the default for many peoples future purchases by handing them free games now isnt really that gross.

There’s plenty of anti-consumer ways as well a business can force users onto their platform, I dont think handing out free games can exactly be called “gross” by comparison.

          • +2

@Saura: You must have a weak stomach if you find this gross, perhaps you need to see a doctor.

        • +4

even works for me, adults who don't like spending much money on games, and then you give away a free $15 voucher with GTA V, then you have Witcher 3 GOTY for $23, minus voucher = $8, made me bite for one of the best games in recent years.

          • @staryknight: unfortunately the $15 voucher only works on games that cost at least 22.99, and witcher 3 is 22.94 :(

            • +1

@krozlink: Yeah looks like they've dropped it below the cut-off threshold now. It qualified when the GTAV freebie dropped.

              • -2

@[Deactivated]: Uh lol that's hilarious. Here some guys were defending epics anti consumer practices as you mention yet another one - cutting the price of a game to make it illegible to use coupon on it.. oh boy.

                • -1

@Saura: Epic didn't drop the price, the devs of the game did. CD Projekt Red is to blame

                  • -1

@[Deactivated]: Can you link your source? I can't see why CDRed would drop their game price coincidentally below coupon threshold - this is a global coupon, I'd be very surprised if game devs where people negatived profits applied by these coupons. Epic is likely paying the void of the discount, in place of the user of the coupon, towards the developer surely.

                    • -1

@Saura: They had their own sale on GOG.com.which started a day later. Since they own GOG they get 100% of the proceeds rather than 88%.
                      That is why that happened.

    • I would expect GTA would have been very good deal as Rockstar makes a killing off the shark cards… sucks as I brought it randomly only a few weeks ago for it to not work on my laptop

      • very true.. IAP is where the money is at these days..

    • +1

I mean they'll never actually beat Steam but they are basically trying to inflate their stores numbers by giving away free stuff. Eventually they'll run out of Fortnite money so they need people to stick around.

It's absolute lack of features isn't a real plus so they need to do something to keep people interested in their shoddy launcher.

      • +7

They may run out of fortnite money but they still have UE money which still helps them long term over fortnite

        • +7

I love how people claim literally all of Epics revenue is from fortnite when they also just so happen to license out the most popular game engine in the world.

Epic are making bank with or without fortnite.

          • +2

@chepsk8: yep, their latest valuation is based more on UE than fortnite.

  • Awesome got it. Thanks.

      udemy of games

    • I'm enjoying this as much as some games though!

  • 6.3gb download (after a 300mb launcher update for me).

    • +1

Is that all? I thought it would be much larger!

      • Agree. GTA5 was like 90 gigs. My quota this month will be smashed.

        • +3

My quota this month will be smashed.

          Go unlimited

  • +2

    Wham! Bam! Thank you ma'am!

  • Are you getting a new $15 coupon? (or a second one in case you have not yet used the first one which came with GTA)?

    • As long as you use it to buy a game for $22.99 or more Epic keeps giving you a new one.

      • No I meant with the free game.

        • +1

You don't need to activate the game to get the coupon, can grab it directly on the sale page

          https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/promotion/mega-sale

There is a button to claim the coupon, this is the same as the one from GTA. If you use it to buy anything off the store you get given another $15 off coupon automatically.

        • +1

You will only ever have one of those coupons I believe. You cannot have more than one as it is automatically applied.

          • @Lysander: Ok Thanks. That explains why I only see one coupon inspite of getting both the free games.

  • +4

At this rate, my Epic Games list will surpass my Steam Library, along with the pile of shame (but instead of Steam sales, these are free!)

    • All the free Epic and GOG giveaways have been excellent. Can't say the same for my Steam and Indiegala account which ranges from excellent to absolute rubbish free games. Then there are the free giveaways from Microsoft that have mostly been terrible. As it seems anything can be released on Steam and MS Store.

  • +1

Man epic has gone crazy recently.

      • +1

        Nah you’re wrong.

        • trying to pull customers away, why not

          • @sticky8anana: What ever happened to the customer backlash when they find out a new game was to only release on Epic and not steam?

      • +1

Your recent comment history seems to be quite negative, you okay?

  • this is EPIC! such a fantastic game for free, epic has my vote

    • +1

It's so exciting we can't sleep

  • The next two will probably be borderlands handsome collection and ark survival evolved as per the leak.

  • Thanks OP. Got excess data for this month so this is perfect timing.

  • +3

Don't forget 10 Second Ninja X on Steam too.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537023

    • Nope, I just couldn't do it to my poor library.

    • +1

      Thanks I hadn't seen this!

  • Thx

  • And I thought the Steam sale from a few weeks ago was a good deal!

  • Already bought plat version on Steam for $30 :(

    • +3

upgrading this to platinum on the epic store costs 49.99 so youre ahead :)

  • Dayum.

    Just one more turn.

  • +2

As with nearly all the Epic games, you dont need the launcher after the initial installation of the game. You can even add the game as a Non Steam game in your Steam library for those that want only one platform to manager.

  • Annnd I just bought the platinum.edition a few weeks ago on steam ffff

    • +2

this is just the base game and upgrading will cost you just as much so you're good.

  • Thanks OP, got it

  • This is amazing. I bought CIV V years ago but only recently started to learn the game.

Going to move onto CIV VI :D

    • CIV V is classic, but since making the switch recently I've been really enjoying it. I've got all the DLCs so far so don't know how much that changes things but it's a great game, lots more involvement in city planning with the introduction of districts and adjacently bonuses. Enjoy!

  • Fantastic giveaway. These are getting better by the week :)

  • These giveaways are pretty Epic!

  • Just one more turn!

  • wow! such an epic game!

  • Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I only see a "coming soon" button

    • nvm, pc clock was out of whack

  • +1

Kiss goodbye to your evenings! Just one more turn!
