Not the greatest deal since they have increased the minimum spend, but if you do have big purchases coming up it might be a deal for you. Looks like it's been around since Feb but I couldn't see it posted here previously.

They also have the Platinum on offer with 60k points after $2k spend, no discount on card fee or Qantas Club passes but it is cheaper than the discounted Signature.

  • In comparison, I joined BankSA 60k qff on $2k spend in 90 days at $49 annual fee about three months ago.

They do have the Platinum available for 60k on 2k spend at $99. I'll update the description.

Got the same but only a month ago w/ St.G and FYI the application process was a pain due to COVID (not sure if its normally like that) but essentially took almost a month to receive my card even tho conditionally approved on the spot as they first asked for 3 payslips, gave it on first instance, emailed me a week later saying now they need 3 bank statements, no response for over a week, called, said application still under review, took another maybe two weeks to get that sorted then mail time extended due to COVID. What an exciting experience.

Not many good qantas CC deals on atm unfortunately

I went with a previous deal and found them a total pain to deal with. Hardly worth the QFF points I got for free given the hours of lost time and frustration.

    • That really sucks. Can you tell us why they were a pain to deal with?

There was a mistake in something they advertised (no annual fee, free 60k QFF points), and they actually made every applicant send them screenshots to prove what they were entitled to, even though they knew full well what they had advertised. In the end, you had to wait to get approved and receive your card, then phone them up to get the annual fee waived, which required having to explain the whole saga all over again.

They also would not approve a secondary card holder unless they visited the branch, which is odd given that you can get a whole account without leaving your desk.

It was a few years ago, but I remember having had to make a lot of phone calls to get what they promised.

    • We had fun & games earlier this year. I used it to purchase something via Ebay Germany (via paypal) (since they had a Visa Card discount deal), they just cancelled our cards (both) because they decided it was fraudulent. No querying if it was legit. They apparently sent a msg, that they'd cancelled the cards, but my other half assumed it was a scam. SO we didn't realise until we went to use them. anyway they took over 3wks to send out replacements. The CC a/c disappeared off our Bank of Melb app, the auto-payment dropped off (which we didn't know). We decided to just drop the cards (since we'd moved our direct debits to other cards in the meantime), so we didn't bother activating the cards when they did arrive. We rang up to cancel the cards, we had to activate the cards first (with all the BS that goes with that), in order to cancel the card. then discovered they hit us up with a late payment fee because we didn't pay the previous ~$100 balance on time, because auto-payment had been disabled & we couldn't log in as they'd removed the a/c off our app and we couldn't add it back in until we got the new cards activated….Grrrrr they agreed to refund but pretty crap service. No wonder I use Amex where possible.

the good thing with the card is the car rental insurance, which isn't so common these days.

      • OMG, that's epic. Cancel the card without even checking? When my Citibank card got compromised (despite never having been used overseas) it was also a real hassle to get it sorted. They alerted me immediately by SMS, and I immediately phoned them to close the card. But I had to phone back many times to ask why transactions kept coming through after I disabled the card. They assured I wouldn't be charged, yet it all showed up on my statement. Ended up having to lodge a dispute.

Perhaps look into the Bankwest Zero Platinum card. No reward scheme, but it costs nothing and has free travel insurance, including cover for the excess of rentals while on holiday. It also does not charge currency conversion fees, so it has been my default card for overseas transactions for about a decade. Never had any issues. Bankwest has great customer service - sorted out a chargeback without hassle when my ISP (Telecube) went out of business.

  • $6K! stuff that.

Great… increased the required spend in this economic climate and still the same number of QF points which aren't exactly great to redeem for anything worthwhile at the moment (and probably for a while longer)

  • i used to have a 15k card with them a few years ago even that was hard to get approved and a hassle to cancel. its tough getting approved if their automated system rejects you , there is no recourse for a human to check application just told to wait 6 months and then reapply. not worth the credit check hit i wont ever be applying with them again.
