Google Wi-Fi 1 Pk $95 (extra 25% applied automatically once added to cart)
This is the old version.

I did an AB test between NEW & OLD versions a month ago.
I connected them in my home and I dont see any speed difference (consistently both give 90+Mbps on NBN to me , and I use 3 of these in a 2 level townhouse)

The only benefit with new ones are , built in AI.

$95 is quite a decent price for a single pack.
Has been lower than this (I think to $80 nearly) , previously i think. But $95 is good enough for me , so purchased another one.

  • I've got an old RT-AC68U on Merlin Firmware whats the difference with that vs this?

    • +1

Without looking at the specs of that router, I'd hazard a guess that not much unless you're adding to an existing Google Wifi mesh.
Asus has its own Mesh thing for some supported routers but I doubt it's as good as Google mesh.

    • AC68 is a conventional WIFI router

Google WIFI is a mesh router that helps in eliminating black spots but you'll need more than 1 unit for it to work (Router + Satellite)

  • Thanks OP.
Quick question: can I buy 2 or more of this to set up a mesh network in a 2-storey house or is there something else that is required?

    • Yeh wondering too. Is this basically a wifi extender for big houses?

    • I think you would need a point, rather than another "home" base. I have this connected to my modem, and a point upstairs.

Yes you can. Nothing else is required unless your internet is from TPG group in which case you need a 802.1q switch/router because I don't think Google Wifi supports VLAN tagging.

I am with TPG NBN, I have 3 Google WiFi, work with no problem. I basically turn off Wifi on their supplied router, connect one of the Google wifi to their router using cable and all wifi connect are through google wifi.

          So, my point then :D

          you need a 802.1q switch/router

You would be able to connect the Google Wifi directly to the NTD device for pretty much any other ISP.

    • One can act as a router meshing with additional units. They all come with a LAN/WAN Ethernet point, however only the first can be used as a router, meaning on the others you can use the LAN point only to extend the LAN with a switch. Have these at home and they work great (multiple storey home).

  • Sorry, this colour / size combination is not currently available.

  • OOS :(

  • Darn, I think I was too slow.

I do need one to add to my existing mesh.

  • Good price, cheaper than Kogan have refurbished a lot of the time.

I have twin pack, connected together through a wired-backhaul, and the network hasn't missed a beat. Way more reliable than my old Netgear Nighthawk.

  • For three in my place and seamless and haven't thought about it since installing them… exactly what a good router should do…
