  • Can anyone comment on the screen/display? Is it acceptable to read on all day or do people typically need to have an external monitor instead?

    • +2

The screen is nice for this money. Goes easy on the eyes as it's IPS, but colours are inaccurate.

    • +1

If you check the display specs look for % of RGB. On gaming laptops that can range from 45% , 75% , 100% RGB.

If you compare the an e series laptop display to what an external monitor will show you can see that the laptop display colours are a bit washed out or not as vibrant.

This could be an issue with photo editing - eg graphic designers will pay more for a "True Colour" monitor.

  • is Ryzen 5 3500U better or worser than i5-8265u? got a dell 7000 i5-8265u 2in1 13.3 for $999 last year, thinking about a bigger screen.

    • No, the i5-8265u should be between 10-15% faster

  • +1

Hey E Series, You're really great and all… But is one of your sexier sisters ever available?

    • talk to your X1 to find out!

      • How do you know I use an X1?

        This is creepy.

  • Can this run engineering cad software?

    • if u r a engineering student in uni or beginning learner at home, this one is pretty enough for ur cad requirement.
if you r about 2 run normal cad files and most of cad files is 2d and small, this one is enough.
But if u r a professional struture designer and require 3d modeling and implementing big cad files, this one is far away from enough, what you need is Thinkpad P53/73, Dell precision 7530/7730 or HP Zbook G5

  • No deals for 3700U?

    • The discount will still apply, just change the processor when customizing.

  • What is the intended use of this laptop?

I've got a friend who's after a new laptop - 15inch as its not needed to be portable. Current laptop is some old eMachine thing.

They do basic everyday Word/Excel, web browsing, light gaming, streaming, storing photos, etc.

Is there something else worth looking at around this price bracket or at this price point is no competitor really close, hence the amount of positive votes?

I guess what I'm asking is, what is the attraction of this deal? Or is it worth holding off for newer tech? Or if your needs are fairly basic, then no need for better specs?

    • -1

Got for a sub $1k gaming laptop if portability is not an issue.

      • I would not call it a gaming laptop - no dedicated graphics

    • +2

By the time Lenovo actually ships your order - will be a lot of newer tech around 😂

    • +2

I am on my E595 now. I do all you are asking about - even video editing on it. There is a second space for an internal 2.5" drive, so I have 2 drives inside the primary M.2 and a 1TB SSD. I store loads of photos and videos. Its decent specs in a decent housing for a decent price. You can easily upgrade the ram, i got an extra 8GB stick for about $50 - cant remember exact price. But good all rounder machine. My son has the E495 which is the same guts but smaller screen and no number pad on the keyboard. His is smaller to carry for school.

    • +1

I have the E495. Couple of things I like about it:
      - A really good blend between business and leisure. It looks good for both purposes (in meeting rooms and in Starbucks, so to say);
      - Keyboard is top class - very comfortable. It is like working on a full size desktop keyboard.
      - A lot of power for the price: the Vega 8 is not bad for this budget. I can play several games on low detail. Warzone to name one.
The Ryzen CPU handles tasks like video editing with ease.
      - Decent build; it doesn't feel cheap, doesn't bend.

Whatever your friend decides, the one advice I always give: avoid anything other than Intel Core or AMD Ryzen CPUs. The rest will clog up your system within weeks (looking at you, Pentium Golds, AMD A4/6/9 and N4/5XXXX crap).

  • Previous special had a 500 GB SSD

Just in regards to delivery times
If your expecting this to arrive anytime soon think again even 3 - 4 week time frame is very unlikely

Work in an unrelated industry but we import alot of products from China. And now there is a border hold on all shipments that contain batteries leaving China due to some dodgy guys selling power banks filled with cement instead of lithium. So they are just holding up all shipments with batteries to make sure they are actually batteries not junk.

Pretty sure this will add to the delay of the arrival of these in Australia, and also customs on our end is also holding up shipments (nothing to do with the battery fiasco), have had shipments arrive here and just delayed for a couple of weeks.

If your in a rush than ……

    • +1

      Cement? Lmao

  • For those discussing time-frames I ordered one for my old man to Mackay(regional) ordered 20/04, received 09/05. I had added extra ram.

  • +2

Without much effort found an Extra RAM stick for $55 delivered with PRIME from Amazon, well worth the upgrade, not for the RAM itself, but to enable DUAL channel and increased GPU performance.

    Kingston KVR24S17S8/8 Laptop Memory DDR4 2400MHz 8GB (1x8GB) CL17 1.2V Non-ECC SODIMM KVR24S17S8/8

    • Does it matter that it's a different make of RAM?

      • +1

        Different brand: no.

Different speed but same type (E.g. DDR4 but different speed): no (the computer should automatically run the RAM at the lower speed of the two sticks). This means you want to get a RAM module of at least 2400MHz.

Different types (e.g. DDR3 and DDR4 together): yes it matters, and they won't work (you won't even be able to insert the RAM modules).

    • Thank you, now I just need top keep an eye for a discounted sata SSD

  • +1

I ordered this on the last deal and it arrived VERY quickly, within 4 days.
Had previously ordered this model with 16gb ram but upon advice canceled that order and will add an extra 8gb ram myself.
So far I’m loving my new thinkpad. There was a small issue with the keyboard being programmed wrong but easy fix once I set it up properly :)
Thank you to OP for posting this deal, very pleased 😀

    • E595 R7 500Gb SSD here - Mines not shipping until 20th May estimated.

  • +1

TA, any deals on lighter \ smaller laptops for school students, say 13-14" screen below 1.4kg?
Ideally T495, X395 or T495s would be good candidates.

  • is this any good for video editing or light gaming. Like GTA V on medium or high settings?

    • Read my comment above, but yes I edit video on it. Its acceptable. I think great for the price. The newer Ryzen will run it better, but at a bigger price. I've been editing on PCs for over a decade, so this trumps most of my old systems that did NLE. I have not done much 4K on it, but fine for 1080

      • thank you heaps and how does this compare to a macbook pro 13 inch 2020. i know there is a big price difference, but apparently macbook the best for editing. If there isnt too much of a difference i think im picking this up.

        • I use a few editors. Powerdirector is my long time used one, davinci I have used on this laptop, also have the adobe goodies too. No idea how it compares to mac, I'm guessing a 2020 mac pro is going to cost a lot more?

          • @ShipShapeRC: yeah it does for sure, but its an investment like i want a good laptop for years, but if this laptop is able run davicini no problem thats great! i love that program and currently use it now so ill consider buying this one for sure. Thank you.

      • also what program you use to edit? thank you :)

  • How does this compare with the Lenovo ThinkPad L390 Yoga? My son needs that particular model for school but this is a better price…. PC people please help?

  • Hi All, how do you compare this with this Acer deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537322

heyo, do you guys have any ideas of what deals may be coming in June that may be better than this and may have deals like this aswell?

    • +1

Let me gaze into my crystal balls, the future looks like faster computers at better prices, as it always has. If you need it now and it's a good price, do it. Always something better coming if you want to wait forever - literally.

  • +2

Just bought one thanks TA, couldn't find a better deal - cheers

  • Dang I sad because I bought a Dell 14" before COVID-19 with only an i5-8265U for $959. Welp, can't change the past.

    • 14" screen is more expensive than 15" screen same resolution screen. Also i5-8265U will give more battery hours. So not much loss.

Existing online price for this Lenovo laptop price is 899 so 777 is pretty good price these days if anyone needs a laptop.

  • But dem new ryzen 4000s are out and they are next gen

Similar specs, but about $600 after discount.
No USB-C PD, no extra 2.5" drive slot.

    Any thoughts?

  • Non backlit keyboard

  • Am I missing something? I customized this to add a 512GB SSD (+$110), which comes to $887. Going directly through Lenovo's website without a code, the exact same spec shows as $899.50

Sure it's cheaper, but only by small change… why does this have 200+ upvotes?

Edit: upgrading to the R7, W10 Pro, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, the code comes out at $1,296 vs $1,104 without.

Edit2: so it seems the code here gives $922 off, whereas the lenovo site has 50% off at the moment. So if the config is over $1844 (at their ludicrous "RRP"), then you're better off without the code. Which means that for basically anything above bottom spec, you shouldn't use the code.

  • Damn, delivery was set for June, now pushed back to early July. No changes, standard config.

    • When did you place the order ?

I ordered one on the 14th of May base model with Windows 10 Pro

Marked as shipped on the 18th, tracking shows ETA 2nd June

      • Hi, I received an email yesterday saying that my order is shipped already but it haven't appeared on the provided tracking number. Just a question, in ovp order detail, the "expected of arrival" is that in Australia or arrived on my doorstep? TIA :)

        • It is my first time ordering with Lenovo so can only assume estimated arrival is the to door date.

      • :( My order was the 13th May. Base model. I might call them and ask why it has been delayed.

        • I just checked the tracking on the expeditors site and it is now giving me a result

Must be the tracking for their shipment from China as it is 153 pieces from Shanghai to Lenovo in Sydney

Estimated ETA to Sydney is 05/09

          • @CHARPANDA: mine says 291pcs from Pudong, Shanghai to Sydney

  • If subscribed to this post and you wish to buy this laptop, the deal is back at $770 with 4% cashback:
