  • good price but is that brand good? haven't heard of it

  • I personally dont recommend the "no brand" or "not popular" gps brand because you WILL end up with no support/ very little after sale support. (eg. installing new maps, interesting locations (point of interest), changes to maps, etc. Better invest more for a good GPS that can last you at least 5 years :)

    • you able to download new maps from here http://www.metroview.com.au/updates/updates.htm

    • I wouldn't call it an investment.
Considering the changes in technology and dropping prices from year to year, I think it doesn't make any sense to buy something expensive with a view to use it for many years. What may look like an advanced unit today will quickly become outdated in just about a year. Furthermore, you are not guaranteed that the expensive unit will last more than its warranty period.
I would rather buy inexpensive unit (as long as it works reasonably well), use it for about a year or two, then buy a new one, which will be much more advanced by that time (and possibly cheaper) and I will still spend less money.

….. perhaps that's why he found it "in a bin". hehehe

Purchased a navig8r GPS a while back from Office Works. Ended up returning it as the software that it uses was terrible and lacked all the most important features which other branded GPS have. Especially when compared to the TomTom I also own, which has great software.

  • i got a laser navig8r 3.5" gps for $90 3 years ago and it is still going strong, satellite lock is quick even if it hasnt been used for 6 months, but there are no map updates, so i think this 4x3" with map updates and more features is a good deal for the price. especially if for occasional use.

  • i bought a navig8r gps about 2 years ago, i can honestly say that it was the biggest heap of **** i ever bought in my life , dont skimp on the price of a gps , it will just frustrate the life out of you , i gave it to a mate and bought a tomtom on ebay .

  • Can you install your own choice of software and maps on this model?

  • +1

you can install your own software

also i don't see the big deal over this and a brand name unit… i've tried TomToms and Navmans and they aren't appreciably better than the yum cha ones that use cheaper software… they still get you there and still warn you about cameras and stuff

  • You can get a Garmin nuvi 2350 for $157 with lifetime maps (DSE offer ends 26-Sep-11)
    www.dicksmith.com.au/product/D1391/garmin-nuvi-2350-in-car-g…

    • More then double the price though…And I don't think it's twice as good.
I used different GPS units and all of them have issues. One would be a bit better than another in some aspect and and inferior in another aspect. It's hard to find a perfect unit.

  • I bought a Navig8r G35 3.5" GPS from COTD, it is very slow to re-calculate or change route. Once got lost I ended up using my good old UBD instead.

  • Btw, this i43 model can be also used a a media player and e-book. So for $74 you get both GPS and media player.

I bought it for $95 last month. I leave it plugged in all the time. It auto power on when I start the car and auto off when I turn ignition off. I use it for redlight and speed camera alert. I even put in inside my car's covered compartment. It managed to lock 6 to 7 satellites. No other gps can do this around this price.

  • I just have briefly tested this unit at home (haven't done any driving yet). So far everything is pretty cool.
Connection to satellites and finding my location took only seconds from turning GPS on.
    Device Platform: SAMSUNG (that's promising)
    Flash: 2GB
    RAM: 64 MB
