Description from adr8

Have had this installed in my dads car for over six months and it's been great. Only complaint, the screen could be a bit brighter for those really sunny days, it's still legible in direct sunlight so not too bad.

Tyre pressure can be set to PSI or BAR.

It has audible warnings if tyre pressure drops too low and this can be adjusted in the menu.

The main unit has a built in battery which can be charged via the solar panel or micro USB.

The external sensors have replaceable 3v 1632 lithium batterries, haven't needed to replace them yet as it's only been six months.

  • what happens when you slightly loosen one of these pressure sensing valve caps? Does the tyre start to leak air?

    • +1

No it won't leak if slightly loosened.

      • at what point does it start to lose air as you undo the sensor?

        • Right at the end, like the last two or three turns. I don't have them on super tight either and they haven't loosened.

For $19.33 USD ($29.94 AUD) You can also get this one (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000155586263.html) if you don't mind waiting for it to be shipped from China.
"Delivered before 07/11 or full refund"

Has 635 Orders, which is what I go by when looking for a legit seller on Aliexpress.

    • That is before GST, with GST it'll probably come to $32.xx

      • They're both before GST.
The one you linked comes to US $23.62 w/GST - The one from China is US $21.26 w/GST.
Probably worth getting the local stock considering they say "Delivered before 05/19 or full refund" so almost two months earlier.
But I'm a true tightass ozbargaineer so I'll probably get the one from China.
Cashrewards are doing 7% Cashback until the end of the day (I think) so don't forget that.

        • The price in title is already including GST, without GST is ~$33.xx AUD

Also, you can just sign up a new account and get 3USD off instead of waiting for cashback

          • @ln28909: Oh yeah my bad.
I've heard they're pretty strict on creating multiple accounts, even with a new credit card people have been pinged.

  • Wouldn’t something like this do the same job for a lot less? https://m.aliexpress.com/item/4000291555785.html?pid=808_000…

    • It's still around $9 AUD and not digital so probably won't be as precise as the one posted,

    • +1

No. Those can’t show you your pressure while you are driving.

    • If you install that set, you might as well look at the side wall bulge and that doesn't cost anything.

I made this comment in the other post about the same product:
I've had a bad experience with this. Three of the four sensors broke within two months.

    • I put mine on the dash and the Aussie heat kills the screen.
I also now have 2 blinking sensors that annoy me.

But when it was working they were awesome.
Just wish I could let air out with them :)

  • How does this work in terms of pumping air (do you need to take the whole thing off) and also what happens when you're changing tyres? Will you need to remove it before you bring it for tyre change? Thanks

    • +1

      Check out this comment

    • +2

Yes it's like a valve cap.

When charging tyres, it has to be removed because the valves are being replaced. For accuracy, the sensor should be fitted during balancing.

  • Since when has Ali had an Australian warehouse?

    • +1

Ali is more like eBay than Amazon. Sellers can have stock in multiple countries. Although my experience says it more often not the case, even when they claim it is.

  • Sceptical about the pundits that say boycott Chinese products due to their unscrupulous shenanigans. However until another country can manufacture products like these, hopefully better , at a fair price, then it may be an uphill battle. Not impossible but not easy.

I run nitrogen in my tires, both car and bikes so very rarely have to top them up. I could see how useful these might help, although most modern vehicles have sophisticated sensors that detect underinflation.

    • They do? I'm yet to see one "regular persons" car with this!

Your Lexus might be a different matter ;)

My newest car is 2015. I'd call that modern.

      • All mazda's post 2004 have TPMS. You're welcome.

        • Are you sure? We had a BT50 at work and it didn’t have TPM, I’m pretty sure it was a 2015.

          • @mapax: We had a mazda 3, mazda cx3 and now a mazda cx5 and they all had tpms. Well maybe not all models.

            • @nuno: Oh ok, so only Mazda? And not all models? Right-o ;)

It will be nice when the base models include all these things. When I purchased in 2017 that was not the case.

              • -2

@justtoreply: Helps if you're informed and buy the right cars. lol

        • All mazda's post 2004 have TPMS. You're welcome

Did you mean to say 2014?

          My 2007 Mazda 3 SP23 doesn’t and a mate’s 06 Mazda 6 doesn’t either.

      • Sheila I know with 5-6yo Jeep Compass has these doovalackies fitted as standard

    • meetoo. well, 78.09% of nitrogen to be precise.

  • +2

Why does it have solar panel? I mean, there's electricity in the car literally everywhere, what value tiny solar panel adds to it?

  • What's wrong with the old fashion way of getting the 'feeling' of heavier car throttle as an indicator of less tyre pressure?

    • Because it’s often too late by then. Many years ago I was towing a trailer and didn’t notice a thing until a tyre blew. More recently I had a flat occur on a section of mud road that I couldn’t stop on and I had to drive over a km before there was anywhere safe to stop, had I had these fitted I may have known there was an issue before reaching the mud.

  • Anyone received them?

    • Yep, got mine last Friday and installed over the weekend. So far, all is working as it should be.
