  • This is one of those too-good-to-be-true deals. What's the catch?

PureVPN 5 Years Plan USD 657
    Discount 92% USD -604.20
    Total USD 52.80

We've heard of "playing the long game" but this is something else…

    • i think they keep logs?

      • +1

On their website shows ‘ Certified!

PureVPN's No-Log policy has been validated by one of the leading US-based Independent Auditor. Not only is PureVPN the fastest, but also a verified No-Log VPN provider!’

      • +1

No, they're pretty open that they don't

        • +1

Saying they don't keep logs is a lie VPN providers use to sell their product. Comments from the previous deal have evidence of PureVPN keeping logs; such as this one from BooYa.

          • @S2: Interesting link that you provided, thank you.
I went back and re-reviewed the Pure VPN website, and to be honest, it looks like they took a public hammering for those cases, because they've gone overboard in specifying they don't log anything, and then employed a third party audit.

That said, it's still 'caveat emptor', and wouldn't blame anyone for a 'once trusted, never again' policy. Fully admit I was initially biased, as I have a PureVPN account, but not in any position to validate their claims.

            Good to know

  • I just bought it and compared with NordVPN. Nord is still better but not by much. I think this is a very good deal.

  • How do you do the cash back offer

    • It's on cashrewards

      • When I click cash rewards the 5 year deal does not come up
Only 7 day, 6 month and 1 month plans are available

        • After clicking thru Cashrewards, manually visit https://www.purevpn.com/hot-UK-deal

          • @Bargain Fighter: Isn't that using a deal that is not offered on cashback website, making it ineligible?

            • @pr0d1gy: Mine tracked shortly after 40 mins.

              • @Bargain Fighter: It always tracks and would sit pending and may not get approved which doesn't happen till 95 days after. Unless someone from cashrewards can confirm this offer can be used in conjunction or add it to their list of approved codes, I'd be careful.

Nord on the other hand, is also 90% cashback and they have the 70% off promo listed at Cashrewards.

  • Could someone please tell us the total we have to pay after cb and discounts?

    • +1

About $8.2 for 5 years after all.

      • Wow, that is cheap

        • +8

Update: Cashrewards tracked after 40ms. Final amount is about $10 after all.

Did a few quick tests. NordVPN is still far better.

          • I always get 95-99% speed of my NBN with NordVPN (YMMV). PureVPN speed is up and down unpredictably as low as 50% of my internet capacity.

          • NordVPN offers WireGuard protocol (arguably faster and more secure connection), and obfuscation/Double VPN if you need more security (slower speed for obfuscation of course)

          • NordVPN both mobile and Android TV apps offer all selection of their cities. PureVPN do not offer manual selection of all of their cities (No Sydney and Perth) although they have servers in 180+ locations. Also, PureVPN Android TV version only offers quite limited numbers of countries (No cities selection) compared to their mobile version.

          • In NordVPN, you can also manually select a specific server number AU#528/location if you find they are always good in your area. PureVPN automatically connects to the presumably "best" server. I'm based in Melbourne, but don't know why it kept connecting me to their Sydney and Brisbane servers.

NO idea on geo-blocked streaming as I don't use any overseas streaming service.

I hope the above info is useful for many. I think I'm gonna cancel it within their 31 days money back guarantee.

  • Pretty sure I got 5 years for $50 with out some cash back deal. It was for new sign ups only but after a couple support chats the 5 years was added to my existing account that had 6 months to run

  • Can anyone vouch if this works with Netflix here in Aus?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • How much do you pay up front in Aussie dollars?

    • +1

      I paid $86.33 using 28° Mastercard.

      • Thanks.

  • Which VPN is the best in terms of speed and stability?

    • ExpressVPN… Everytime!

  • I don't believe CR works like what OP said. Asked the question on yesterday's deal posted from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/535438.

    allenrong88 12 hours 53 min ago
Thx for that. How does PureVPN work with CR? The most popular plan they have got right now is 0.99 for 7 days and then 5.82 a month. Does that mean I only get 0.891 back for the transaction only?

Basically you get 90% cashback on your initial outlay, which is why you’re better off choosing a longer term plan.

  • I've still got my NordVPN for another 2.5 years or so (also 90% cashback), but heard that it doesn't work with Android TV to get American Netflix but this does.

Might be worth the $10 or so at the end for this to get the bigger Netflix library, even if used solely for that.

Unless anyone has had success with Nord on Android TV?

  • PureVPN sucks!

  • +1

    PureVPN or Surfshart VPN?

    • i would say Surfshark

      • surfshark or nord vpn?

        • surfshark
after the Hack with nord they left a bad taste in many users mouth

  • I signed up given how cheap it is but the amount of spam and creepy E-mails is scary.

    e.g.
"Our system notified me that you downloaded PureVPN’s app but surprisingly did not make the VPN connection." <—- so much for no logging/monitoring?

Also Netflix was a hit-and-miss affair, sometimes it worked but quite often it doesn't.

Should have gotten 3 coffees instead I guess.

    • You can request full refund. They offer 31 days money back guarantee.

    • did it track the 5 year plan with cash rewards.

shop back offering 91% with cyberghost
so its a toss up with me at the moment.
as cyberghost own PIA i would think i would have better servers with them.

      • Yes it did, I'm following @willx's advice and trying to get a refund, even that is a pain so far (no luck after 6 emails back and forth)

        • i paid that little bit extra and went with paypal
if i got and issue i can dispute it there
if other sites fail to respond or uphold their deal less stress for me

        • Same here. First requested refund, they replied within 30 mins to provide help and troubleshooting.

Emailed back with "Refund only, no help needed". 3 follow ups, and 2 online chat. After 5 days, still no reply, and no refund processed email.

Online chat rep confirmed their Billing team is working on it and reviewing the refund. Promised it will be processed within 2-5 working days.

Everything is automatic nowadays. Processing a refund won't take more than a few clicks in their system.

31 days money back guarantee no question asked is completely a lie.

          • @Bargain Fighter: I managed to get my refund processed via Paypal, a lot of one-uping offers like extending the money back period, then the subscription period then… etc etc.

Though reading about the PIA acquisition mentioned by @wingscancer above makes me think I should ditch PIA as my main VPN soon too….

            • @MadoxNet: Can you give me more details on how to get refund via PayPal?

              • @Bargain Fighter: I meant much debate with the guys at PureVPN, they processed my refund and I can see it on Paypal. In fact after reading your comment I actually logged into Paypal to check it was legit :).

It took me 4 emails to them to get it in total, 5 replies, the last one basically saying refund has been initiated and a Paypal Email basically that same minute.
