Samsung Note 9 $99 Upfront link
Phone - $699
Plan - $780
Total min cost - $1479
Cancel day one $699 + $390 etc = $1089 min cost.
@askbargain: why did you link to that user's profile?
@CVonC: Look at their names.
@askbargain: so bargain ben and Bargainbeth….
bargain ben and Bargainbeth
Peter: Oh, wonderful, we have to get these two together.
Egon: I think that would be extraordinarily dangerous.
You are wrong.
Cancel on the 1st day it’s $390 for cancellation.
Source I did it last week.
@ilostnemo: Could you tell me how did it work? Do you have to port in and then cancel immediately?
Just curious how you got the $390 value?
These deals come up all thee time, I’ve done two in the past.
https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2020FY/Brands/Telstra/w…
@Fancydancer: Oh I see… your earlier comment ETC means Early Termination Charges :)
@Fancydancer: What's the process for this? Please feel free to point me to a previous post if you don't want to type it out…
The fee is always 1/2 the total fee on a prorate basis. So $390 on day 1 then it goes down $32.50 each month.
but why do you cancel it if it mean you have to pay for the amount equal to 6 months? Pay another 390 and you get 60gb a month for a whole year. Correct me but I can’t find anywhere cheaper than $390 for 12 mths of 60gb
I would rather cancel as my current plan is all I need.
So I guess it’s moreso for people for want the phone and not the plan.
Some people are happy with 80gb for 12 months that is only $150.
Who honestly needs 60gb per month?? I use my phone for web browsing and emails all the time and never get through more than 3gb. There are enough free wifi hotspots around these days. Paying $18 a month on Vaya plan.
@nubzy: Lots of us aren't interesting in chasing WiFi hotspots, not to mention the potential security issues.
@nubzy: Wi-fi hotspots lol
@nubzy: Movie streaming when catching public transport
@nubzy: Not sure if you’re joking but we’re not in 1999 anymore - phones can stream HD video, play online games, stream high-quality music, download apps off mobile data, etc.
@RC13: Yeah,no shit. But I dont do any of that.. I download the music through spotify on wifi so I can listen any time. Watching movies on phone? nah. I would rather take in my surroundings. I dont bury my face in my phone all day long. 3gb is plenty for web browsing, email and the occasional short video or a few app downloads on the go.
How does it work?
You do this in store itself while buying the phone or how?
Cancel 1st day and then return the phone you will make ~$1100 profit
Sorry noob here, does that include first month of $65 paid or do you tell them to cancel before they port?
How do you not pay for the first month?
Not too bad.
Total minimum cost $1,479.00
Not quite sure if it is still worth paying over $1000 for XS MAX nowadays.
With 5G coming out quite so. If you don't care about that then its a good deal.
I mean even the cameras on the 11 Pro Max are significantly better, no? Comparing flagship to flagship…
Also twice the price
@Rauland: Thrice right? 699 vs 2K+
When I had the Pro Max I only found it marginally better than the XS Max other than the wide-angle lens which I didnt use, so ended up staying with the XS max instead. There are other benefits of course (brighter screen, bigger battery) etc
I'm definitely pleased with the camera upgrade from my Xs Max to the 11 Pro Max.
That said, this is a ripper deal. I sold my launch-day Xs Max 512GB for more than this deal works out at if you cancel on day 1. It was still a good camera, and the phone rest of the phone is excellent.
Much better night performance on 11 pro and pro max. First time apple has been able to match Google phones for night performance. The ultra wide can be really useful (I love going up mountains and taking photos). That being said the 11 pro and pro max just feels too pricey for a phone that doesn't have 5G.
Can't be a good deal from TGG, would be price error if it was.
STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN A SINGLE EMAIL FROM THEM 11 HOURS LATER
Same
"McMacked" So did you purchase this deal?
Great deal
Must be a price error…
with the recent incident with the Nest Hub Max, I guess you’re right
Can we get this online?
Or is it in store only?
in store only
anything for the non max size?
They had XS promotion last month
probably price error … move on
Can you use Telstra’s one number for Apple Watch from TGG’s Telstra plan?
Any one has experience before?
Yes I do it, once you’ve signed up there’s an option to opt in in the Telstra app
so tempting to get this one but i just signed up for boost prepaid for 1 year already :(
Have you activated it yet? they have long expiry from what I know
i am using it atm with my ip 8 plus.
Anything for Iphone XS Max 64gb?
I always wonder how people get by with 64gb.
Do you not keep videos or photos on your phone?
Welcome to the world of cloud storage.
Thanks for the downvote, it was a legitimate question.
@wikiwiki: Here have an upvote. I know the pain of storage issues (no I rather not pay for extra cloud storage …)
@the4thzodiac: Thanks the4thzodiac
@wikiwiki: I didnt downvote you
@specks: Sorry allan37825.. have an upvote on me =)
Which cloud service do you use?
@RC13: google photos for photos and vid - unlimited space or costs if you want raw quality
dropbox/onedrive/icloud/google drive
I plug external hdd to asus router, wola, my own cloud storage
Hey wikiwiki! I’ve used exclusively 64gb iPhone(s) for the last 4 or so years, and to be honest it’s no real hardship.
As someone said above, it’s all in the cloud these days my good man. Personally I pay the $4/mo or whatever it is for 200gb of additional iCloud, but you could achieve similar for nothing if you’re prepared to muck about a bit (another commenter touches on a local cloud setup above). One thing I will probably have to contemplate in the future is how much cloud storage almost a decade of photos now sitting there which seem to get larger and larger in size with each phone upgrade is using.. but at the moment I’m sitting at 110 of 200gb.
Because I use an iPad and 2 Macs this works really well for me because everything syncs and plays nicely and I don’t really have to do anything at all.
The only things really consuming any tangible space on my actual device are my Messages (I believe there is a way to archive and backup to iCloud to free up space but haven’t needed to or bothered), downloaded Spotify playlists, safari cache and an offline Google Map which I use for when out of coverage etc etc.
The only changes I’ve made on any are deleting a few bloated iApps (iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Keynotes, Numbers etc) - replaced the latter 3 with Office. 4GB saved there.
Currently tapping away on a ~14 month old iPhone 8+ which I haven’t really tended to in regards to actively trying to save space as such… and I’m currently using 24 of 64gb.
The caveat to this of course is you need a phone plan/prepaid sim with pretty decent amounts of data because…. well now all of your things are in the cloud.
Not sure why you were downvoted either! Particularly in an iPhone world each step up in storage can add as much as $200… how possible it is to get by with ‘just’ 64 is a pretty fair question.
Have an upvote from me too! :D
Thanks Jackary,
I've never really looked into the cloud based storage, in saying that i did set up a google photos that i rarely use.
I guess i didn't like the idea of paying for cloud storage when i can save it to a hard drive at home.
Every so often i will transfer old albums over which i'm unlikely to need instant access to.
Also using an iphone 8+ 256gb with 100gb free. No doubt by the time i need more storage, it's as simple as transferring old albums to the hard drive.
I guess you're paying for the convenience.
@wikiwiki: The magic of the iCloud/iPhone combo is its something you set up once in settings, choose what you want backed up, and whether or not you want it to happen on cellular or wifi. That’s about it. Wonderful being able to jump between devices and photos, books, messages etc etc are just… there. As you say though, you absolutely pay for that convenience - $4.49/m for 200gb is pretty extortionate in 2020.
You’ve got me thinking… over a few years it’s probably a more expensive route than just buying the higher capacity phone to begin with. If you own the phone for 2 years, add $4.49x24 for additional storage and a little bit more for the extra data you’ll need on whatever plan you pick (let’s be really conservative and say $10 extra/m) - total $347.76 over 2 years.
So I guess your conclusion really is correct… you indeed pay for the convenience. You could use alternate services (Gmail, google photos etc) for a similar free result, and likely get by just fine with a 64gb device in 2020. But the additional data consumption issue would remain regardless of what cloud route you chose… Hmmmmmm! So it would really drill down to your own personal use case.
It’s 12:26am and I have already learnt something new today. Thanks :)
@jackary: Haha glad we helped each other.
Yep! $449 upfront for 64gb iPhone XS Max
how do you come up with 449?
I got the iPhone xs 64gb in March for $200 up front on the $65 BYO plan for 12months.
A few days back I contacted Telstra on live chat and requested to downgrade to the $50 small plan with 30gb. I have had reduced income due to covid and the rep processed it and waived the ETC. Now with the new plan I can cancel anytime with no fees.
It is worth a try for anyone purely buying to cancel right away, to downgrade to a month to month plan to save on the ETC
Only if you are truely affected by COVID-19 please.
LOL at anyone who has the balls to say they can afford a $700 phone and then day 1 say they have had their pay cut due to COVID
I blame the stock market.
Only if you are truely affected by COVID-19 please.
Telstra makes 2 billion dollars profit every year.
Some idiots were complaining that "they're going to pay for the COVID19 discounts". While not giving a shit about the two billion dollars that they actually paid for every year.
Maybe you can tell us if the below is acceptable given Apple every year has made much more profit than Telstra?
https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.engadget.com/amp/2018-10…
I did mine last time when it was $65 p/m and $500 gift card. Got the gc and quickly brought mine down to $50 p/m 15gb, bought the iPhone 11 Pro Max when it came out, then switched over to Vodafone For $50 p/m for 100gb (no lock in contract)
Any word if JB Hifi is running this deal too?
Yeah I'm wondering this as well
Obligatory “Price Error” from me too. I did get the email though.
Guys I need some advice!
I am currently with Optus on 12 months plan which will be finished by 2020-07-10 (termination cost $40), paying $32 every months.
I have another plan with Optus (My MBB plus 30GB) 24 months contract which will be finished by 2021-07-11. I got Galaxy watch 46mm - cellular with 30 GB internet from them which I pay $22.40 every months (termination cost $393).
So I would like to know, can I port in to Telstra and cancel my 12 months Optus contract but keep my MBB plus 30GB contract or I have to keep both service in order to use the 30 MB internet?
If I port in to Telstra can I still use both Telstra and my Optus internet service?
Thanks for your information. :)
Seriously, you are better off asking this question down at whirlpool, they have dedicated mobile carriers section.
Thats a big upfront difference between the Xs max and Note 9, considering they both got released around the same time.
Storage size does make a difference in price between any phones. Here it’s iPhone XS Max 512 Gb vs Note 9 128 GB.
Storage size does make a difference in price
Apple mainly uses it to make their more expensive models seem like better value.
Apple Tax mate. To be honest, I've never really understood the benefit of a phone that costs more than a computer. Then again… I have been called a pleb for that.
is the iphone locked with telstra?
how much is the unlock fee?
Not locked with Telstra.
So need to port in from another network? I am with Telstra but contract has finished so I assume I can't get this deal
So just to dumb it down for me..
If i just want this for the phone but i'm already with telstra, i need to:
Buy and activate a prepaid sim from anyone besides Telstra, Boost or Belong.
Pop into Good Guys to port over to Telstra on a $65 60GB 12 Month Plan.
Once connected (i assume on the spot?) i can purchase a (Gold) MT582X/A, (Silver) MT572X/A, (Space Grey) MT562X/A for $699 upfront.
Cancel the next day and pay a $390 early termination charge.
Total $1089.
That's it? Or i don't qualify because i'm already with Telstra?
Usually need to port out for at least 30 days. The rest of your post is correct
That's only assuming i want to keep the same number though right?
I just want this deal for the phone only.
Yes, in that case just burn a prepaid number. You are adding a new service to existing account so can get the deal. $5 Aldi sim will do.
As fancydancer said. If you don’t want to keep your number there is no waiting time
Gday just wondering if you where successful in doing this as I rang my local store and they told me that my number had to be active on the other network for 30days and if I brought a new sim it would not work
@Gilesy: I doubt they would have a way to check,I had no issues doing it with a one day old sim.
@Fancydancer: Yeah I ended up going through another gg store brought a $10 Optus sim and and got the iPhone XS 256g for $465 rang Telstra canceled the contract for $390 and put my other Telstra contracted sim in so picked up the phone for $865 happy with that 😄 thanks for your help
RRP $2299 this deal is good
