Membership required, I'm guessing you need to log in to have access to the deal.

    • Works fine if you’re signed in.

        • +1

You get one when your membership application is approved.

I think I got access through my union membership, but have had it for years.

        • You got to generate your own junk mail trail. I made a membership for some small products, website said stock at my store but click to pick up did not work. #0 mins on the phone only to be told their inventory control was beyond repair!

  • Can you use gift cards with GG Commercial?

    • Nope

What..a..deal.. I bought my second one with the last deal. Paired them up for Stereo sound.. very very nice. This is a great buy!

    • Had the first one from the jb hifi deal, very satisfied with the outcome. From 1 to 10, how would you say about getting the second one? Cheers

      • +2

I did the same. The one max in the loungeroom works fine. but when you have 2 setup in there (with all other homes and minis going, it sounds pretty good.

It does provide a sense of stereo, so think it is a 8/10

      • The second one is a really nice addition to be honest. If you have them setup horizontal, you just get a paired setup which still sounds amazing, however if you set them up vertical, they switch to stereo mode when you pair them. If you stand in the middle of them, you just get this really nice crisp full sound like you're at a concert. It's nice. Only thing i dislike is you can't select which speaker is the 'active listening' one. It always has to be the "left" stereo one. Which isn't a big deal, you can just swap them around in the settings. Otherwise it's a decent setup for music. So from 1 to 10, i would say the worth of getting a second one is 8.

How can I sign up with its commercial site BTW?

    • I got access through my union membership. Haven’t actually bought anything yet though.

From yoursalarybenefit if you're a student

      • +1

how do you register as a student? sign up requests for a company name

        • I'd like to know too

        • +1

Write your uni student service, like at UNSW it is Arc@UNSW or ARC UNSW Student Life

          • @ln28909: Does this apply to all australian unis?

          • @ln28909: and how long does it take to get registered to Good Guys? it seems you just create an account on yoursalarybenefit - but no instructions on getting TGG access.

            • @chillipaste: Not really sure about the detail as I had done this awhile ago and I think as long as your uni has a not for profit sector, you should be fine

      Thanks for posting

    • Was $182 on there tonight.

  • Bought one, thank you!

  • great price!

  • yes, its a good product. but, i guess its got its own limitations i.e.you cant cast all youtube videos to it (google used to have this option in the past, now it disappeared. You can you cast youtube music to this device though).

i personally prefer to have google home hub max over this.

    • +2

      Huh?
But you can use this Home Max as the speaker while playing YouTube videos on your phone

      • Please enlighten …as I am struggling and concluded this functionality is not there

        • +3

          Hehe okay

          Here is what you do…

Gently pat the Home Max and whisper

          "Hey Google, turn on Bluetooth."

Then proceed to pair your phone with the newly discovered Bluetooth device.
It should have identical name with the Home Max's.

          • @Scythic: Hmm…I am really thinking why I didn’t try it. Also does this work with you I have two of these I’m stereo mode ? And will there be any latency between video and audio ?

            • @JustNotGod: You can but results might vary.

The best way to eliminate latency is connect both speaker using Aux cord :x

              • @Scythic: I have trouble with the Aux.

Can't manually switch to aux input. Tried 'hey google, switch to aux' but it doesn't understand the command.

It's hit and miss if it will automatically switch to aux input.

                • @JimB: Hmm…I think I am still confused on letancy part with videos playing on stereo paired home max speakers… even google is not helping 😕

                  • +1

@JustNotGod: To get no latency with video/games from a TV or a monitor, I can only this to work if I don't set them up as a stereo pair and use a 3.5mm breakout cable (stereo to 2x mono Left and Right).

                    https://www.storedj.com.au/hosa-ymm-261-3-5mm-trs-m-to-dual-…

Black plugs into the left speaker and Red plugs into the right speaker. You'll obviously have to provide your own 3.5mm aux cables.

Stereo sound works perfectly with this setup through the aux connection, but if you've got any bluetooth audio or audio casted to the speakers, you're a crapshoot out of luck as they're going to just play through the speakers as mono on each.

It really bugs me that Google are continuing to say that video/gaming is not supported through a stereo pair setup and using aux.

                    • @itsmehuey: Thank you mate …that clarifies a lot 👍🏻…now I have to decide whether I want to set up as tv stereo set up or cast enables speaker🤔… dont know why google complicates so much…that too with their high end speaker. 🙄🙄

                • @JimB: That would be in your TV settings

                  • @Scythic: The TV has constant output, it's google home max that didn't switch to aux

                    • @JimB: That's strange.
When you plug the aux cable into the back of the Home Max (make sure it's already powered on), does it make a sound ?

                      • @Scythic: It mostly does when you take the aux cable out and then plug it in again.

However 50% of the time it fails to recognise the signal from the Aux and automatically play the sound (I have it connected to my TV) and I can't manually switch the source to Aux.

Speaking 'hey google switch to aux' is a command that should work but my device doesn't recognise it.

Very frustrating as this command was from Google.

                        • @JimB: Hmmmm that never happened to me before.
As soon as it's plugged in, it works. I still think it's your TV settings

                          • @Scythic: Definitely not the TV as I tested the output and it is constantly providing an outlet (even at 0 volume).

As I said it's frustrating as it should be automatically switching to aux input whenever the TV is on.

  • $199 for me that's weird

    • 198 at Harvey Norman at the moment….

  • How does this compare with the Bose Soundtouch 30?

    • I had the Bose Soundtouch 20 and 10 and replaced the two of them with two of these. I found the sound to be not significantly better or worse but the usability of it due to superior software was unquestionably better on google. We had the Bose for 3 years I think it was and there were constant software issues for us and all sorts of strange things going on with them, when I contacted Bose they had every excuse under the sun but they never got it sorted. The google speakers have been a simple and awesome upgrade for us.

      • +1

Just collected my order and I must say I'm impressed. Used to have the soundtouch 30 and this is comparable with a fraction of the price

  • +1

This is just the speaker, without a screen, right?

    • Correct

  • How does this compare to edifier 1700bt sound wise?

  • Those of you who use this with your TV…how do you control the volume? Would rather not use the Home app. And my TV can't control it. And using voice is sometimes just annoying for the purpose of volume. Wonder if a Harmony remote could do it?

    • If via 3.5 jack I imagine the tv volume could control it like a pair of headphones. You’d just set the google on its own volume once.

      • I thought so too, but my tv decides to play it's sound through its own speakers as well as the Google Max. So then the TV remote purely controls the tv speakers :(

        • No setting? Maybe some brands are a bit silly

          • @muzzakus: its a samsung (albeit old)

            • @rberry: I have an old Sony and in the TV menu under Audio there is a setting for Audio Out through Speakers or Component eg turn off TV speakers…

        • There might be a setting in the menu to disable this.
Also I use a fetch box and the fetch remote can switch between tv sound and fetch sound for the volume buttons which is handy.

  • Can you stream your movies through your laptop with this speaker?

    • Probably via AUX or BT, but I don't think you can cast audio only to it.

      I might be wrong though

      • You're right. Connect the Home Max to the laptop via Aux (3.5 jack) or via Bluetooth.

Simply ask Google to turn on Bluetooth

  • Are there substantial benefits to having two of these paired together?

    • unlike any other smart speaker that i'm aware of, one of these (when used horizontally) does stereo.

Two will thus only give you greater loudness (one is very loud though!) and greater stereo separation

      • If you have two is the improvement in sound separation worth it?

        • +1

It would depend on the room I think.

Also, from memory, google recommends at least 10 feet separation for the best results, so that really means only the living room. and in which case, unless you're using your TV speakers, your home theater speakers in the living room will be better anyway…

you also need to factor in where you'll be… greater stereo separation means greater likelihood you want be equidistant between the two speakers… leading to worse results…

    • When paired the speakers definitely sound better with sterero separation. Mine are 5 feet apart and sound fabulous.
Was previously a bit disappointed with the Home Max given it's cost.
Two speaker paired together now feel worth the money.

      • interesting… can you elaborate on how they sound better?

        • Better soundstage - the sound feels bigger with stereo separation and better 3D feel. And with that clarity is subjectively better.
Sort of like going from a good single soundbar to a surround sound multi speaker up.

          • @pencilman: Thanks! Shame I don't have the space for two in my room then!

            Where do you have yours?

  • I am waiting for google nest MAX

  • Says product removed. :(

  • Marked as expired, its been taken down. Over 3000 clicks… I'm guessing someone came in today to a surprising number of orders haha.
