Weber Family Q3100 NG $637 / LPG $647 plus Free Cover (worth $79) + Free shipping @ Appliances Online

1020
TMNT20

Very rare the Natural Gas version of the Weber goes on sale and this one is 20% off Weber's RRP and includes the cover worth $79 and free shipping which I reckon makes it the best deal on it I've seen. With CashRewards brings it down to about $650 flat. The LPG version is just $10 more as well— not quite as good a deal (RRP is less and often 15% off at the chains that don't usually stock NG) but still pretty good if you need the cover. Note that despite saying "free next day delivery" on the website, when I checked out the earliest delivery window was April 24, so hold off before defrosting your steak.

  • Are these things as good as people state? Never owned my own BBQ and was wondering if this would be a good first buy. Usually just cook pork belly, brisket and so on in the oven, so curious if this would enhance that?

    • +6

@Frayin - I have one of these and love it. Weber is a different type of cooking, you don’t cook with the hood open

    • +5

Short answer is yes :) I’m upgrading from a q1000. Have sworn by it for 10 years. Amazing roasts, best steaks I’ve had.

      • Awesome! Thanks for the input guys.

        • One thing to note about the Weber family bbq is the design of that burners. It’s a 2 burner. One burner is a small horizontal line while the other burner is a larger ring. If you are cooking small meals (I.e a couple of sausages) the single horizontal burner isn’t sufficient so you need to use both burners or the large ring burner. It seems a bit of an overkill for small meals. There is also no built in thermostat. On a positive it’s been used to cook pizza, roast (need to purchase add ons for both) and many other meals and they’ve all tasted great.

          • @Slo20: Which model or range would you recommend for a small family (couple + baby) which doesn’t eat that much meat? We are craving steaks and have space on our balcony for a bbq and stand but don’t want to go overboard given we won’t use it that much.

            • +1

@jace88: The Q2000 is a good size for 2 adults. We were originally looking at the Q2000 as there is only 2 of us also, however once we priced in the cost of a stand there was minimal difference between the 2 at the time. We got the family Q for $574.

              • +1

@Slo20: Thanks for the tip. I have to admit I kept browsing and browsing after reading this and all about Webers… and ended up going with the even smaller Baby Q. On sale for $285 delivered and thought it was a nice way to try it all out since we don't cook much at all.

      • just made the best ribs ever in my Family Q. #isocooks

        • Recipe please? :)

          • +5

@hongerwonger: For Pork Ribs - Apply your favourite rub, place on trivet.

Use the small burner on low, 2.5 hours, spray with ACV/Apple Juice mix every 45mins.

Bring inside, marinade with BBQ sauce (get creative/use good sauce), wrap in foil.

Inside the foil place back on Trivet, keep the small burner on low for another 2 hours.

            Enjoy.

      • Just wondering, how is it comparing to charcoal BBQ? I, firmly, doubt that gas BBQ can do good steak. Just judge on my personal feelings.

    • Out the gate it will be similar to an oven for roasted meats… but once you start to get those sweet seasoned flavours from using it then you can really start to tell the difference. Great BBQ. Accessories are a bit pricey.

Family Q is good for maybe 6-8 people (unless you’re just doing sausages). If you find yourself hosting for more then it might not be big enough.

You do brisket in the oven?!

    • +2

Extremely durable and versatile. I have a baby q and can do ‘low n slow’ in it by using a pellet smoker as well. It is also unbelievably efficient on gas. I replace a gas bottle maybe once a year and I use it quite a bit.

I would be trying to get the premium version with the higher hood and temperature gauge. They occasionally go on sale.

      • 10% off at the Authorised Dealer in minto.

    • I use them whilst working away from home, at our rented caravan park, one of the ensuite cabin has this outside, and it was way much better than the $99 coleman bbq I got from anaconda last year. But I am going to stick with my coleman until it breaks down, lol.

    • Love mine

    • -2

Weber is the Rolls Royce of BBQ.

      • +6

More Lexus. Above average and always reliable

      • Ziegler and Brown would be closer to that title.

    • I've been waiting for this size to come back on special. I have 3 Weber's already, the 1000 for camping, the 2000 and a kettle but want this big family size too. Get yourself an inkbird thermometer set and you'll be delivering the best slabs of meat ever.

    • It’s great. Family Q heats up much faster than other models, great for fast lunch steak cooking. Lamb cutlets are so easy to cook on Weber because fat never drips on burners and doesn’t flare up. But the best thing ever is roasting. Leg of lamb on indirect heat, with only outer burner on 2 or 3, for 3 hours. It’s so delicious.

I’ve had mine for about 7 years now, works as new. One thing it’s very important to clean the grill with water like they say in the manual straight after cooking, otherwise almost no maintenance required.

      • I thought they said burn it off next time you use it. What’s the water method?

        • +1

Have a bowl of water, dip wire brush in it and clean the hot grill with it. Water will turn into steam allowing for a very easy and fast cleaning.

    • I like Weber’s. I like the Beefeater Bugg more. Can also cook half open. Built in thermometer as standard too. Better design of the burners. Side plate stands are sturdy and don’t flop around like the Weber. IMO a better BBQ.

      • The Bugg with full length cover and stand is $547 at Harvey Norman. Is this a good price?

    • best ever

  • Does this come with the cart? I thought they were additional accessories? or is that just on the smaller size ones?

    • +2

Yes it comes with the patio cart, the carts are separate for the smaller models.

      • +1

Asking the real questions. I couldn’t work this out from the website. I have the Baby Q and had to buy my own cart.

    • +1

The Family Q (this one) is hard bolted to the cart, it doesn’t have its own legs like the baby Q and the Q, so yes, it comes with the cart.

  • +11

Nice find! Can also stack with "TMNT20" to get it for $637 / $647 :)

    • couldn't see where to apply the coupon in the checkout.

      • +1

Should be just under the enter email section, see here.

        • thanks

    • Cowabunga!

Can the NG model plug into a gas bayonet, or do they need professional install?

    • +1

Plugs straight into bayonet, never caught running out of gas mid bbq!

  • +1

Cooking a roast lamb in mine right now. Smells amazing

  • Wanted to pull the trigger so bad but… The misses didn't want the money going towards something like this considering the current situation.
    Boo…

    • +11

And in isolation you can’t even get a new misses! It really is a tragedy :(

      • +3

Pretty sure shipping from Russia is still viable

  • LPG or Natural Gas? What's everyone's preference?

    • +3

LPG = gas bottle, natural gas= you have a gas outlet at your house

I'm guessing you want the lpg

    • +2

Result is the same really, the natural gas models have larger burner and regulator outputs to compensate for the low flow rate / heat output of natural gas, so works out about the same.

If you have a NG output at the house ready to go, get on it. If you don’t or you’re renting I’d go LPG.

  • Yeah, like others have said, Weber's are the best BBQs I've ever used.

Used those el-cheapo ones from Bunnings and Big-W for years, changed over to a Weber Family Q around two years ago and never looked back. The flavour is amazing.

    • This. Had a variety of cheaper ones in the past, bought a family q two months ago. It’s been great and we’re cooking twice if not three times a week on it!

  • +4

Needs the temp gauge. It’s got me buggered why Weber made two different models of Q series.

Surely temp gauges aren’t that expensive to incorporate.

    • +5

It’s not just the gauge, it’s the higher lid for larger roasts and the electric ignition over the unreliable piezo.
Weber are generally seen as a premium product, especially at their price point, and they knew going into high volume stores like the good guys, etc they wouldn’t have bbq specialists selling them and they’d just discount them to move the stock. As such, they decided to launch a base model for volume stores to give away as they see fit and hold onto the premium models to go into Weber Specialist dealers that will actually take the time to go through the pros and cons of the models. Gives them volume while also having a premium model to support the dealer network with.

    • +1

I just ordered a replacement hood thermometer for my Weber Smokey mountain and it was $19.95, so yeah don’t know why they can’t just include one on all their bbqs.
I’ve got the 3200 family Q, they are great as a gas grill bbq but haven’t had much success with low and slow on it ( it doesn’t even come close to a total seal). The Smokey mountain is a dream for low and slow bbq, can’t recommend it highly enough. All Weber bbqs are brilliant in general actually

  • +2

We bought a Family Q in the very early days. Ours must be 12+ years old. Only just replaced the regulator and burners, the support from Webber Aus is amazing. The only thing ide say is buy one with a temp gauge in the lid, this one doesn't look to have it unfortunately.

    • Weber's after sales service in Australia is second to none. They are absolutely fantastic and their warranty is honoured without question. Replacement parts through Weber are very cheap too (i bought an electronic ignition kit from Amazon usa and it cost me $50.. to get it from Weber Australia would have cost me $39 (I found out afterwards).

I have the family, high domed lid with thermometer, natural gas. (I love ng, its so cheap and you can run it day and night).

  • Would you go for coal or gas? I want a BBQ but have no real experience

    • I have a variety of both. I much prefer charcoal, but it’s a passion and an art. Weber gas BBQs are a great midpoint as the lid down cooking infuses a much better flavour than a regulation gas BBQ without the complication of charcoal. I’d get yourself a Q in gas, and if you enjoy cooking on it, pick yourself up an old charcoal Weber off FB marketplace for cheap and have a play around with it and go from there.

      • Would the grill matter much as the thick black iron versus the thinner shiny metal one? As for the coal, would that produce a lot of smoke? I have a small balcony and don’t want to fumigate every units around me

    • +2

Gas is easier to get right, quicker to get started, less mess before and after. charcoal tastes better when done right

Source : I’ve got a charcoal and and gas Weber

Delivery for me was May! I hope they can get it to me earlier!

I almost pulled the trigger when TGG had it for ~$557, the free delivery and cover help stomach the difference i guess.

I have a natural gas outlet, thanks OP!

    • when did TGG had it for that low? :O

      • +1

Keep an eye out for their 20% off eBay sales

        • aha thanks, i went with this anyway, was looking for a family size NG one to go on sale for some time…

  • Thanks OP, bought the LPG one

  • Where are these made?

    • +1

Qs are made in China like almost all of the Weber range (excluding some percentage of the kettle and the Summit gas range).

  • +1

Couldn’t recommend a Weber family q enough. Absolutely love mine. Just wish I’d gone for the Weber store one with the temp gauge in the hood and higher lid. I’ve bought a Bluetooth meat thermometer though that does both ambient temp and the meat temp so solves that problem at least.

  • Couldn't resist, good deal with the free cover. Hope the cover is durable.
Anyone know if it comes with a gas hose?

    • +1

      yes they do

  • Is the Baby Q Q1000 Black LPG cheap for $286?

    • +1

No I got one from the goodguys for $220

  • first time BBQ buyer, apartment has a NG bayonet, what's the smallest Weber with NG connection?

    • +1

Pretty sure it’s the Q2000 series

  • Any good deals on Q2200 out there?

  • What accessories do people recommend getting for someone who's never had a BBQ?

    • +1

I recommend the roasting trivet for doing roasted joints/whole birds, you can buy the foil trays to go underneath it or simply fold a few layers of aluminium foil to do the same thing. I also recommend an inkbird thermometer (bluetooth) with temp probes. I also recommend a Sabco BBQ brush from Bunnings.

  • how hard to clean this/any weber bbq?

    • I think it depends how diligent you are. I hadn’t cleaned my baby q for 3 years and it was bloody hard. Had I cleaned it after every couple of uses, probably fine :)

  • +1

    Thanks finally got one 👍

  • -6

Anyone wanting a first time BBQ and not wanting to drop $600 I can recommend the $100 Jumbuck from Bunnings, had mine 3.5 years and still going strong.
Cooks great, uses stuff all gas and still in great condition.

    • +1

I used a jumbuck yesterday, whilst they do the job, most seem to have uneven heat distribution which makes cooking slow. I curse every time I use it, so thanks OP.

    • Just saying to the noobs if all you want to cook is your own Bunnings snags now that they're not doing it anymore, or a Basic BBQ once a week you don't need a $600 webber.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/jumbuck-delta-2-burner-flat-bbq-…

The burners cover the whole plate, no heat issues on mine at least.

Webbers are good if you need one.

  • Thinking of pulling the trigger, when i search on appliances online with "Q3100 Natural Gas BBQ" there are two models, one is this and another one for $100 odd more. What's the difference?

    • +1

One’s black and one’s black and white.

    • +1

      Same product different colour

    • +1

      thanks! that was quick!

  • What's the difference with the q3200?

    • +1

      Taller lid and temp gauge.

      • the ignition is different too - electronic vs push start

  • Finally pulled the trigger 👍

  • Is it possible to use this as a wok stove?

    • I wouldn’t have thought it very efficient for a wok. What is a wok stove anyway? My google is broken :P

  • +3

Thanks! Picked up a NG family Q. By far the best deal I have seen on this - couldn't resist!

  • Folks - heads up I am in Melbourne, just purchased the LPG version and was able to select Tuesday 14th as delivery (I went went 15th) so if you wanted this quick it looks like they have stock available and ready to ship.
