        • Paid for phone already? Cancel with telstra as soon as you can, e.g as soon as you get an email saying your plan is activated or you can log in to your account.

  • I somehow fluked it with the JB $400 giftcard towards a phone and Telstra 12 month Sim plan for a Pixel 4XL.

I ported an ALDi Sim, when I got the email and notification to activate my new Telstra Sim, I just never did and used my old Sim card.

2 weeks later I got an email from Telstra saying that they cancelled the contract as I never activated it.

Haven't heard from them since. $870 for a Pixel 4XL at launch was great :)

    • Dang never knew this loophole. Shoulda done that on my note 10+. $700 cashback back then!

But trying to recall, when they ported you in to telstra, didn't jb do it on the spot??

      • Pretty sure its done in store.

        • Yeah I got a JB deal last year and they were adamant to activate it in store.

      • Oh they 100% ported my number and everything etc. I just remember the that my order was 'processing' each time I checked my app. Then received an email or text that it was ready to be activated and I just left it until it was cancelled. I've still got my chat transcript from Telstra where I confirmed it was cancelled due to me not activating it if that would help.

        • Haha bonus!! Just like the early days when people were changing to regular month to month plans and getting around the ETC.

TGG wouldn't give me the phone until the telstra SIM activated

  • Hi mate, so how did you work out its gonna cost $539. I am after S10 and planning to go tomorrow instore. I will port in to telstra and then when do i cancel the contract. over the phone by the first month. if u could let me know. Sorry if i am asking silly..cheers

    • Upfront Phone: $149
      ETC (Early Termination Cost): $390
      Total $539

Doesnt include the $65/m for your phone plan but you can swap back to where ever you came from right after ;)

      • Thanks. So i just get this instore and then cancel over the phone ?

  • Gonna be up at TGG Chatswood to raid the S10 stock.

  • Is this dual sim?

    • +1

      nope

  • no 5g and no peace of mind data ?

    • 80gb a month doesn't do it for you?

  • I wonder if you can down grade the plan and get that Telstra $20 covid 19 help off the plan too and still not pay a ETC?

    • No everyone can get that $20…..

"For those on the JobSeeker benefit, we will offer a discount on their existing services to relieve some of the burden. Those with a fixed connection or multiple mobile services can receive $20 off their bill"

  • Is the s10 a better phone or the pixel 4/4xl?

    • S20 for sure and pixel 4 xl for me is better than S10

      • You guys seem to go through phones too quickly, never had any of these. My note 8 was great until it shattered

  • are these locked/unlocked to Telstra.? i am currently with my optus. If I port across from Optus once activated can I then put my wife's Boost sim in the phone and it will work. I'll put the new sim back in my old Huawei P30.

    • Phones sold on plans like this haven't been locked in a very long time. Probably not Telstra branded either.

  • The GG front page actually says Get $149 off the Samsung Galaxy S10 when you sign up for $65 pm 12 months contract. Is it $149 off or $149 upfront? One is a deal the other isn't at all.

    • The front page is wrong, you'll see here it says $149 upfront, not $149 off.

$149 Samsung Phone For Port-In Customers

      • Thanks for sharing, yes is $149 upfront on that page. That's a great deal for the S10. How did they get it so wrong on the home page.

        • Because on the home page they are advertising the phone itself, rather than a phone + plan deal.

Phone outright, no Telstra plan = $150 OFF
Phone outright ON a Telstra plan = $150 outright

EDIT: nvm I see how they stuffed it up. There are three different variations of a $150 deal with the S10 on the website. What a joke.

  • Can you port in from boost?

    • +1

No, you have to port out to a non Telstra network reseller.

  • I currently have the Note 9, should I sell it and get the S10 or not? What do you guys suggest?

    • No, iirc the Note 9 should be similar specs to S10.

      • If U can get a decent price for your note 9 then yes.

But if U rely on the pen then no.

Plus S10 is smaller to note 9.

  • +2

its a sweet deal, they got a few more as i just found out in-store at frankston… iphone 11 pro 256gb for $999 upfront on the $65/24m/80gb plan, or $106.63 every month for 24months…looking at everyone else its way cheaper with more data! im signing this deal now coz im an apple guy…

    • I wonder if this is a particular store vs a national thing. I cannot see it on their website and my local salesperson looked at me like I was a drongo (after I asked the question , not before )

      • +1

The salesperson you saw doesn't know. Definately confirmed it's all stores. Just no advertising. From what the sales guy told me Telstra is new for the good guys and some stores are just not up to speed… Call around. I did this at Frankston.

      • +1

I called the Frankston store again just to make double sure I was told the right things and yes the iPhone 11 Pro deal is national. The guy Michael also made me confident in that because he couldn't help but tell me the Frankston store is the No1 Telstra store for the good guys…

        • Many thanks for the effort!

    • Can you confirm Early Contract Termination fee for this please?

  • Got a S10 at Kotara for my wife, it's gonna take a day or so for them to arrange the move from Optus though. The JBhifi across the road did it in 5 minutes last week.

    • I been waiting to port from optus to voda (both prepaid) for 10 days now… can't get through @ voda customer service. got temp number which is working and old optus one is working too to receive only (no credit) so not that urgent but 10 days???

      • +1

Unreal, I just called TGG to see if there was an update and someone else told me it often takes 3 days for them lol

  • Just FYI if it's like the previous Pixel deal you should also be able to get on 24 month plan with no upfront.

    • Not sure why you would do that

      • Yeah don't do 24 months… I fell for a free phone and had to really push to get out of it and still paid a small break fee 15 months in…. not worth it if U do the numbers

      • +2

I just thought I would let those know who can't afford the $200 initial cost for whatever reason. You also get 80GB instead of 60.

    • Cheers Ryballs. Do you know what ETC would be if you ended the 24 month plan early?

      • +1

I'm not sure sorry mate. Haven't even confirmed 24 months is an option, only know it was on Pixel. You'd have to ask JB.

        • No worries at all! Cheers for replying

      • +1

780$ ETC… you'd have to be completely insane to sign up for 24 months just to avoid paying $149 upfront on the 12 month plan

  • +2

Can I buy a brand new SIM with a new number, activate it and use this for this deal.

Then down the line like a month later port my old number to my new service or is that not possible?

    Thanks

    • you can only port at the beginning.

Are you wanting to keep the plan or just use your old number in the phone. Because the latter is easy.

      • Just use my old number basically. Only problem is that I'm currently with Telstra and some comments saying that a 30 day port out requirement exists :(

        • As far as i understand it you simply sign up as a new customer with a new number and then use your old sim card and cancel the new plan. Unless they are actually blocking you if you have any other services with Telstra.

          • @SgtBatten: Right, that makes sense thanks. But I guess that means I'd need to fork out the cancellation cost of the new plan

            • @gabos: yes that's the point. $390 cancellation cost makes it one of the cheapest s10s you can buy

I would never pay $65 a month for a phone plan again, it's overkill for most people, 80gb of data…

              • @SgtBatten: Yeah fair enough, cheers for helping and all the info!

                • @gabos: I just called them and asked if I can get a brand new number and get the plan. They said no and only port in is allowed. I also asked if they would allow a port in from another network brand new number. They said the network will allow port in only after a couple of months.

                  • @htielr: Thats not sounding too promising!

Im gonna go grab a SIM soon and try my luck over the weekend.

                    • @gabos: Let me know how it goes. I so badly need to get a new phone and I am currently in belong and cant port into this offer.

                  • @htielr: How would the new network know or care how old the other network number you created is? I'd say getting a random Sim from 7/11 and bringing that number to the store minutes later would work just fine.. can't see why not

                    • @Carporium: I plan on doing the same. But that is response I got when I called store. I just want to know if anyone has done it ?

                      • @htielr: oh dear..i hope thats not the case as i did just that two days ago..bought a new sim from optus and asked them to port in to telstra..

  • +4

Could someone please clarify for me, when do you actually cancel the Telstra plan? Do you do it the following day? Are you still paying the 1st month $65 or is it pro-rata to 1 day?

    • need the answer too.

      • You can cancel/port away anytime and pay the $390 ETC + number of days on plan (pro rata). For me, I ported away after 3 days and received the initial bill for the 3 days pro rata. Expecting the final bill for the $390 ETC to come through any time now…..

        • I cancelled my plan on the same day sim was activated, have not received any bills of any sort so far….

  • For people looking at doing the sign up and then cancel the Telstra plan approach what phone plans are you using/planning on using? I'm currently on a heavily negotiated deal with Vodafone for $45/month 75GB+standard unlimited talk/text and some intl calls. (Way more data than I need and I rarely make use of international calls) but if I run the numbers it's cumulatively cheaper up until the 23 month mark to just do 65/month + $149 than to buyout the S10 and keep paying my $45/month.

    • Depends how much data you need. I know lots of ozbargainers port in and out of - Catch Connect 90 day plan $5 and Kogan 90 day plans $15.
Both prices quoted are only when it's on special or have SB/CR promos.

      • Thanks for that - I'll look into those and weigh up the balance on effort to port regularly vs set and forget laziness for the inclusions.

        • I'm buying one for my wife who's on a $9 p/m extel plan. It only includes 2GB data but that suits her needs perfectly.

    • Signed up in store.
    • Couldn't wait for the credit check/activation so I went home with the sim (but not the phone).
    • Received email confirming the number's ported and activated.
    • Will be picking the phone up on Sunday (i.e. in 3 days) because the store is a fair bit away.

Should I port out today? Saturday? After picking up the phone (i.e. Tuesday due to no porting is done on Sundays and public holiday)?

Will I be charged the plan pro-rata?

    • Should I port out today?

Huh you said it's already ported. Old sim shouldn't be working anymore. You don't need the (new) phone to complete porting…

      • Porting out to cancel the contract automatically

  • So is this the cheaper 4G model, i.e. not the model with the snapdragon 5G chip?

    • There are no Snapdragon S10's available in Australia, 5G or otherwise.

  • good guys is saying the normal 30min testra sign up can takes up to 6 days due to a paper form due to the call centres being down.

    • Really? Mine took about 3 hours today

      • Hi R4,
Which store did you go? Did you have to stay in the store or just took the phone/sim home and wait for the porting to complete?
Also, if you intend to cancel the plan, can you please confirm $539 is the only cost or they charge $65 on top as well? Thank you!

        • I went to the Belmont WA store. I went there as they were showing stock online but unfortunately, all that stock was reserved. It was in stock at their O'Connor store but that's a 80km round trip for me so I've got them to transfer one to Belmont. They gave me a sim to take away with me and the porting happened a few hours later.

I don't intend to cancel the plan but there is plenty of advice on how to do so and pay $539 on this thread.

          • @R4: Thank you!

          • @R4: Hi R4,

What does the purchase invoice state for the cost of the handset? Eg. [$149 total] or [$997 total with a $848 gift card used]

            Thanks in advance

    • I went in last night and they were filling out the paper form. The rep said that they're scanning the forms to head office where they have a few computers that are directly on the Telstra system. The delay probably accounts for the workload for however many people at head office are dedicated to doing the inputting of the applications.

My rep said they have 1 person at head office dedicated to 4 of the stores in Brisbane and they've been getting smashed since this is a popular deal. Maybe the store you signed up at is sharing with multiple stores and also only has one H/O person. I'd say they've also built in a COVID delay buffer.

      • The store I went to did it right there and then. In and out with phone in 20min.

    • The Frankston store didn't do a paper form. Done on the computer with me and I was in and out with phone in 20min

  • Can anyone confirm that this deal applies to new numbers and not just port ins?

    • "When you bring your number" is what the ad says, same condition as usual.

Buy a discounted prepaid sim and activate it, then port if you need to.

  • Could you port from Boost to New Optus prepaid sim and take this offer ?

  • Anyone had any luck getting this online instead of having to go in-store?

    • In store only is what the website says but if you are worried about COVID maybe they can do it over the phone? Not sure…but worth a shot.

      • Might give it a crack cheers mate!

  • Are you folks sure its the '$65 BYO plan' not the '$65 Mobile Plan' in the adjacent column, which has higher termination fees? I cant see clearly anywhere that it specifies which one.

    • +1

you got a point here. From what i can see the 'mobile plans' are 24months and the 'BYO plans' are 12 months. Since this offer is a 12 month plane then i would say it falls under the BYO plan. Can anyone confirm if they have cancelled on previous deals for 390$ not 780$.

    • There is also a $300 phone credit fee by the looks

    • +2

Can confirm it is what's stated in the OP. Plan shows as $65 BYO plan with $390 ETC in telstra online account

      • Thanks. Will check out tomorrow…. if theres any left!

  • +3

can anyone confirm if they are charged the first month after ending the contract?

    • +1

They appear to charge pro rata. If you cancel on first day they won't charge anything. I cancelled the day after getting activated and then received a bill for around $2.15 a couple days later. Haven't got the ETC billed yet.

  • Got one from Good Guys Nunawading, they had one left in stock as of an hour ago.

  • +2

Got one this morning. They also have S9 for free and S9+ for 49$ with same 65$ plan. Took 1 hour for the signup process from start to finish. In plan details it says 390 ETC. Currently trying to end contract.

    • Please let us know how you go with ending the contract especially the $65 monthly cost. Thanks in advance!
Actually Arcticfox answered the question so it's all good. Thanks anyway :)
