  • I still feel the premium range for 200-400 more is better than FE range

    • -5

      Why?

Remember that the FE is equivalent to the S24+, not the base S24. It has the same screen size as the S24+, albeit lower res. It has an updated version of the S24+ chip, albeit an Exynos chip. Battery is only slightly smaller, but you would expect similar battery life given the lower screen res. The S24+ is, at best, $480 more expensive.

      • The Exynos 2400e in the FE is a slightly weaker version of the original 2400

      • I checked with Samsung coz I was thinking exactly that. However, Australia is not getting snapdragon version for S24 and S24+
It's just with ultra getting snapdragon.
So if want small good phone probably just get S23

        • The Exynos 2400 beats the equivalent Snapdragon chip in some benchmark tests, but is inferior in others. So, performance wise, it's a good chip. The S23 certainly wouldn't be more powerful, so it wouldn't make sense to go back to that model.

        • At this stage might be worth waiting to see if S25 base/+ will get snapdragon

Best deals are usually at pre-order especially samsung

          • +1

@CodeXD: Depends how negative you are about Exynos chips. But they're certainly not bad these days. They used to be horrible, but since Samsung changed their architecture, they've been comparing really well to the equivalent SD chips and, like I said, beating them in some benchmarks. There's no need to avoid them simply because they're exynos chips these days.

          • @CodeXD: Will never happen. Samsung splits SOC sources between in house and Qualcomm at roughly 50% demand for each intentionally.

Going 100% Qualcomm would mean abandoning their own design and that would put them in a poor negotiating position in the future.

Quite different, eg. 1080p vs 1440p

      • +3

I'm not sure why I'm being downvoted for this comment. If people really think a S24+ contains and extra $500 of value over this phone, I guess that's fine. I'm sure there's plenty of people who would love to get a flagship device, but simply can't commit over $1k for it, so the FE would be a great way to do it. I'd imagine it'll also be a good way to trade up to a S25 device next year or S26 the year after.

Is a higher res screen, 300mah of battery juice and slightly different cameras worth $500? I guess it might be to some.

        • +3

OZBargain crowds are emotional, they will downvote you for stupid reasons without explanation. You make valid points and I agree with your sentiments

I've been on the market for a ~$800-ish phone with a 6.7" screen for a couple months but can't find the right one. The A55 was an option but I hated the sharp edges so right now I am tossing up between Nothing Phone 2 and The S24 FE. Just waiting for Black Friday deals to pull the trigger.

        • Just wait for the next jb hifi deal. I got the 24+ for $566 ($766 with a $200 jb hifi gc).

        • Is it worth buying the previous gen galaxy over a current gen FE model? I assume it would be cheaper with better build? Obviously wouldn't work this gen with the new AI stuff.

      • +1

I hear the battery is a bit average on the S24fe: https://youtu.be/MR7wPGtflqQ?t=509

        • 5-6 hours of SOT is pretty reasonable. I'm not really sure what he's sooking about. I'd be very surprised if people are getting more than that out of their S24+'s. And, as he says, Samsung batteries always improve after a few weeks. Gotta get those views I guess…

    • does samsung have proper leather cases? made from real cows?

      • +5

Made from fake cows, I believe.

        • +1

          …… vegan crap again…

          • @kungfuman: I guess that's what comes out of fake cows…

            • @wombat81: maybe we need to make leather out of vegans, might be inferior quality though.

          • @kungfuman: Vegan leather these days is actually just as good as leather from cows (except with less unnecessary animal abuse). I've got vegan adidas, those things are holding up better than the cow version. Made from cactus I think.

            • @deejaygrub: no its not vegan leather lacks the touch and feel and the smell of real leather. Vegan leather does not age like real leather does. Also the amount of plastic in vegan leather is more toxic to the environment. and takes a lot more carbon to produce.

Nothing beats real leather there is no substitute, and there is no waste either we use all the animal not just the meat.

              • @kungfuman: It's supply and demand. If you buy the leather, it creates a demand for an animal to be artificially inseminated, give birth, have the baby taken away, forests cleared to have a ton of crops grown for it, fed, slaughtered.

Not sure if all that suffering and animal abuse justifies a real smell and nice touch of dead animal skin on my phone. Also, you can get vegan leather without plastic. Even if you couldn't, you can't really compare the amount of environmental damage animal agriculture does (more greenhouse gases than all the transport in the world) compared with the cost of producing a small piece of plastic.

                • @deejaygrub: not sure why the suffering of an animal matters since its food and materials for humans. A lion doesn't care about a deers feelings before it kills it for food. This is the circle of life animals are just commodities that we consume. If you want less people to buy leather then increase the price so most people can't obtain it.

                  • @kungfuman: Lions are in a survival situation. You are not a lion. Are you saying that it doesn't matter what happens to animals? If someone was kicking a dog for fun, you wouldn't intervene? Animals are not commodities like products. They feel pain and suffer. You don't need to contribute to it.

                    • @deejaygrub: I never said I was a lion but u clearly missed the point. We consume every part of an animal so there is no waste, as long as animal are plentiful and can sustain the population of humans that is all that matters animals live and die for our benefit.
It’s either animals or other humans which would u prefer to eat and consume?

                      • @kungfuman: You said lions eat animals so it's ok to eat animals. Lions sniff each other's butts and kill their babies. You are not a lion so don't base your morals on lions.

You know there's a third choice of food to consume besides humans and animals. It's called plants. Better for you the environment and the animals who don't want to die for your taste pleasure.

                        • @deejaygrub: animals kill to survive you are missing the point. you need to study real nutrition, not the vegan version of it. Too much crap is out there on what is good for you and what is not. red meat is a very important part of human nutrition. If you want to live a short life live a vegan lifestyle.

                          • @kungfuman: You don't need meat to survive. There's nothing in meat you can't get from plants. Not sure what nutritionist would tell you that fruits and veggies will shorten your life. But i guess you can find anything in the internet these days. Like those guys on the carnivore diet. Red meat is classed as a type 2 carcinogen. Processed red meat is type 1. The same category as cigarettes. You might want to look into that.

                            • @deejaygrub: You do know there is multiple medical studies that have shown whole red meat (eg steaks) are a requirement for a healthy body, and significantly reduces the risk of chronic diseases. Eggs also play a huge role in this they contain every single vitamin mineral the body needs except vitamin C. Heavily processed foods like those that are plant-based foods and processed meats cause all types of complications and increase your chances of getting sick. Whole foods like fresh cuts of meat that haven't been processed, with additives and other junk are very good for you. What you believe to be true is not based on all the facts. It's based on reading the wrong sources of information.
If you want it all sumed up in one video by an actual doctor that does this kind of research I have a video you can watch to educate yourself on why Red meat is good for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFtMw2ow95M&t=72s

                              • @kungfuman: Everything you just stated is pure misinformation. Eggburg is not even a real dr. Grains, legumes, veggies and fruits are whole foods and are suitable for people to thrive at all stages of life. Look at the recommendations from the national council of dietitians. Largest body in the world recommends a plant based diet. Days of eating cholesterol bombs aka eggs are ending.

                                • @deejaygrub: Dr Eric Bery DC look him up he has been a MD for over 30 years and has a practice in Virginia. Secondly, you don't know what misinformation is you are one of those people who like using the word but not understand what that is or you like to label everything that contradicts your point of view as misinformation, it is the lazy way for people to try an get out of understanding and processing information that is presented to them. You didn't watch the video that is clear because you either didn't understand it or you didn't listen to what he said or didn't want to hear it. The issue with people like you is that you're that far diluted you don't want to hear facts that contradict your beliefs.

                                  • @kungfuman:

Secondly, you don't know what misinformation is

Dude. You posted in another thread that mRNA vaccines were proven to give people cancer, and your post was roundly debunked as absolute nonsense.

There is plenty of misinformation on the internet, as you now know - but it's a bit rich to accuse others of falling into the misinformation trap that you yourself have just been stuck in !

Pro tip : YouTube videos are not a good source of information…

                                    • @Nom: First thing I never said all mRNA vax was the issue I especially said covid mRNA vax was an issue. Also the source shown to the other guy that was talking about why meat is bad and doesn't bother to view the video as you haven't. There is research on how damaging the covid mRNA vax is from actual doctors. I can give you one video that condenses some of that fact to give you some context, but I can give you more information that is details if that is not understandable. https://rumble.com/v4dlw66-daily-dose-covid-vax-cancer-risk-… I am only interested in new and emerging data. People should be very much concerned about what they put in their body, and ask the questions.

                                  • @kungfuman: He's a chiropractor.

                                    • @deejaygrub: thats all you have? nothing in your defense or any kind of rebuttal? explain to me what was in the video I would very much like to hear you lack of understanding of it.

                                      • @kungfuman: How about instead of me wasting my time doing that, you look up one if the many videos fact checking and debunking his erroneous claims.

                                        • @deejaygrub: How about u watch the video instead and proof to me it’s misinformation instead of telling me it is and providing not valid proof that it is?

                                          • @kungfuman: Because I've got better things to do than watch a chiropractor make up nonsense about nutrition. I've seen enough lies from him already to take anything he says seriously.

How about you find some reputable information showing a plant based diet not being optimal for human health. I'll wait.

The point is, you can be perfectly healthy without causing harm to animals. Then it is a moral obligation to act on this.

    • +12

Surely you've got something better than that JV. Switch on mate.

    • Of course, just not for 3g comms

    • +2

      JV , "you've done it again" .

  • Hmm so this doesn't have an always on display?

    • It doesn't support AOD wallpapers, but I'd assume other elements of AOD work?

  • +3

Too expensive for a mid tier phone. FE should sell better at around $600-700

    • What's mid-tier about it? What comparable phones can you get in that price range?

You could say that literally any phone would sell better at a lower price point, so I'm not sure what you're getting at there. I reckon iPhone 16 Pro Max's would sell better if they were $3 each.

      • Only real options for this price and screen size are Motorola Edge Pro, Nothing Phone 2 or maaaaybe an A55. Plus also Oneplus 12R and the obvious China brands like realme and such which I want to avoid personally. Yes, I am aware Nothing is chinese, but it is far less bloated and more stable than other chinese phone brands.

        • None of these have Samsung Dex. This feature effectively turns your phone into a mobile computer when connected to a screen

      • -2

        What's mid-tier about it?

Because it literally is in the middle of Samsung's range? The S2# Ultra is their flagship. The S2#+ and S2# are their high end phones. The FE, A7#, A5# are their mid range phones. The A3#, A2#, A1#, A0# are their budget phones.

        • +1

It's madness to put the FE in the same class as an A55. The A55 has an Exynos 1480 in it. The 2400 absolutely blows it away in every single metric. And Samsung hasn't produced an A7x phone since 2022.

I didnt subsribe for launch event, but still received additional $200 coupon as well , which can be stacked up to above discount in EPP portal. Showing 128GB for $640 with watch 4($40) trade-in. Check your EDU/EPP mailbox as well.

    • same here. not bad with the code

    • Is it a generic coupon code? I didn't get it.

      • +1

unique codes by the looks of it

    • Any chance anyone can share the $200 coupon code with me?

    • Just to clarify, its a unique $200 trade-in voucher.

      • Anyone has a voucher to share?

  • I want this but my S10 still works fine…

  • I broke my S22 Plus screen for a second time. Phone store says it will cost $450 to fix with genuine parts. is this better than that phone?

    • If I were you I'd just buy a cheap, easily replaceable phone

    • The Exynos 2400 significantly outperforms the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 in every metric.
The S22+ will have a nicer display (450ppi vs 385ppi).
The S24FE has a 50MP wide lens, an 8MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens. The S22+ has a 50MP wide lens, an 10MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens. The cameras seem pretty comparable on paper.

If it was me I'd go for the S24FE because the higher res of the S22+ doesn't add much and the processing power increase is much more important, IMO. I was happy with the 1080p display on my old S21+.

But dude, get a decent case this time…

    • +1

      That's like three Motorola G54s

  • Was waiting for s24 FE since ultra came out, gotta say pretty disappointing, brought a 6 months old s24+ 512 for $1000 instead $958 for S24fe 256.
