Would this be fine to use on a Plex server?
My 3.5 drive just died in an enclosure.
try take the HD out and plug it to desktop PC or usb docking, some time just the enclosure die but HD is fine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbpIkFXiQKc unfortunately no.
My 3.5 drive just died in an enclosure.
are you sure…. XD
I wouldn't use a portable drive winding up and down all day long with Plex…
If you don't care much for reliability and you'll backup, it's ok.
will these even be able to be delivered?
Australia Post are still operating normally.
Freight and post is an essential service ;)
Does anybody know what filesystem these use? I'd like to get one for my family but unfortunately a recent update to their Vodafone TV removed NTFS and exFAT support, so might have to recommend the 2TB model instead.
They'll use whatever file system you format it with. From what I've read though, the issue isn't so much that 2TB is the max volume size (you could get this 4TB drive and make 2x 2TB partitions on it), but the 4GB max file size that is the problem.
These have a max file size of 4GB?!
No, the it's the FAT32 filesystem that has a max file size of 4GB. If the Vodafone TV can no longer read an NTFS or exFAT formatted drive, then you're pretty much forced to revert to FAT32, and that's where limitations begin to bite.
Are those 15mm thick?
I bought one of these from Amazon via US when they were doing free shipping for Prime members for $123. That time there was a 12% SB cashback, but I have no idea if it tracked or not.
They are fast. Faster than the Seagate BUP and WD Passports I have owned.
I get a sustained 140MB/s with these and about half that with the WDs and Seagates (sustained, not burst).
Have limited knowledge about HDs and doing backups, can anyone suggest any reliable solutions for backing up my laptops?
TIA
Veeam agent is the best I have found. Free version allows only one backup job, but that should be all you need
Looks to be out of stock at the $128 price
Can this run 24/7 on a network router through USB connection
I use USB flash drive on my ASUS router as there’s not enough power to run the 2.5” drive.
Not suitable for shucking into a notebook but if your motherboard has a spare USB 3 header you could get the header to Micro-B for connectivity and mount it normally. Not ideal at all and you probably wouldn't want to boot off that but for some extra storage…
shuckable?
also what model hdd is inside?
