Thanks OP. So you have to have a laptop with two USB c ports side by side?

    • As per the post, I believe certain Macs have this set up - probably aimed at them, but might become standard as it becomes the standard connector.

Thanks. I posted comment just as you updated. Cheers.

Most computers will only have 1 Type C
and for Macbook Pro with 2/4 Type C (Thunderbolt 3)
1 connector is good enough to connect a Type C hub with charging, hdmi, SD card reader, multiple usb 3.0 ports

This hub that taking 2 Type c ports seems a dumb design to me

You can easily buy 2 of this and its still far cheaper

or if you want 1 with charging port

Newer macs have only 2 Type-C ports. If we use this, only monitors can be connected. Not sure where will the external keyboards / mice go.

    • Yes this is not aimed at non-touchbar macbooks which only have two type-c ports. Unless you have bluetooth keyboard and mouse e.g. magic mouse + keyboard.

  • Does anyone know if this would work with Dell Latitude tablets, specifically 5290 2-in-1? The USB-C ports seem to be spaced similarly to Mac devices but there's no information anywhere on the spacing. Cheers

    • I tried on an HP Zbook Studio G5 apparently different distance… I'd suggest you measure them and compare with Macbook pros

  • Does it take two Type C ports to run 2x HDMI at 4K? My work dock runs off one Type C, and runs a full USB hub plus two Display Ports and can still run an additional HDMI if I had anywhere to put the monitor, plus charges the laptop. That said, it is a powered hub, so does that make a difference?

Your work usb hub is probably using thunderbolt 3, which is more powerful.

a single Type-C port can at most output 4k 60hz, and by doing so leaves no room for USB ports. So they have made this a two port adapter which allows dual 4k 60hz. Not bad if you have the right laptop for it, as thunderbolt stuff are more expensive.

      • Right, that makes sense

This is useful for Raspberry Pi 4

  • Can we use a pair of usb-c cables to connect say an iMac?
Or even just one usb port and 1 monitor?

  • um. can I ask a dumb question, please. can I have "2 HDMI connectors to 1 usb-c" type of setup? and power cable just goes into the other usb-c on the macbook?

asking because if they ever change distance between those 2 usb-c ports in the next model, this is going into landfill

  • cheaper to buy 2 type c to hdmi cable.

    • This is what i comment above and got -ve votes
      Don't know why….weird….

      • More flexible too

      • I guess for a specific use case like the 13 inch pros that only have 2 (and now macbook airs) this is good for the duel out put while allowing it to be on power for a charge.
If your use case is just coming home and docking to two screens (ie no need for card readers etc) then this can make sense and be a neat solution.

    • MacBook charges over USB-C, and (some models) only have 2 USB-C ports, so your suggestion would work however could not be charging simultaneously.
