Maglite 3D LED Torch $29 + Shipping (or Free Pickup SYD) [Sold out]

440

Pretty good price for a second generation LED maglite in aus.

Amazon is USD$26.85, with shipping of about $15, which is a bit more expensive than this.

Shipping for me (2614) was $8.80

EDIT:EDIT: This is the third generation magled, which uses a cree XPE LED. This is more efficient, brighter and throws further than the second generation. The pictures on the big buys website still show the 2nd generation.

Specs for 3rd generation (from oztrez below):

364m throw
79 hour life
131 lumens
33028 cd

    Just bought 1.
FYI, pick up location is in Auburn. Cheers …

    • Cheers to you! :)

  • Just noticed this. Was curious on the information about "second generation" as my information from the supplier isn't great. My research indicates that these are actually 3rd generation (Cree XPE) which at this stage I'm thinking is better because the throw is 364 metres instead of 289 but this is all new to me and I'm frantically trying to work it out. Would that be a correct assumption or is the 2nd gen better than the 3rd…

    • +1

If they are 3rd generation then this is an even better deal. I was basing my assumption on the packaging/ratings of this on your website, and on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Mag-Lite-ST3D016-Cell-Flashlight-Black…), which seem to be the same.

      • Yeah I put the reviews in there just so people have an idea. I got a blurry pic from my warehouse and the packaging says (364m) quite clearly. Which http://flashlight-wiki.com/Mag_Instrument suggests it's the new ones. I'm trying to get a better image…

        • +1

When it's confirmed I will update the listing. This is a pretty exceptional deal if it is the cree version.

        • Confirmed.

          364m throw
          79 hour life
          131 lum
          33028cd

        • +1

No worries. I updated the listing above, and will update it again when confirmed.

        • +2

Double confirmed. Definitely all 3rd gen.

        • Updated above

    • +1

How did you confirm the throw of 364m?

      • I've got a picture (too dodgy to go up on the net) that shows it. Also have confirmed with the warehouse that the packaging states it as well. The only thing I can't confirm is that all of them are the same and that will happen soon…

        • +1

          OK thanks.

  • +3

god, even torches have '3D' tacked on

    • 3 D Batteries. There is a 2D and 4D model of this product available around the place.

      • +1

A 2D would actually be nice to take travelling. I'd be interested if it's the same gen as this one, etc. I've got an old-style maglite but it's a 4d. Even empty it's a bit much to pack into luggage.

        • there are much better options for travelling. check out budgetlightforum.com and have a look around.

im about to go overseas for 6 months, i'll be taking a fenix e21 and a zebralight headlight.

  • +2

bought one too..dads bday coming up. thanks sweefu

  • +4

Currently playing Alan Wake, I think I need one of this when I am going to walk in dark.

    • +1

      don't forget the batteries!

      • Energizer only :P

        • +4

And you need a Mack truck to turn it on and off :)

  • +1

This is great, thanks. Now if they can get the XL200 in.

    • Another kind of Maglite? Sure if the market exists it can't hurt to find out right? I'll pass it on to the BUYers

  • +1

    oztrez,

Sorry if this has been asked before (or the info is avail on your website - i tried to find it) What are your available pickup dates/times?

    • Yeah pickup is super new and we should add opening hours on the pickup button, but as per the contact page our opening hours are:
      Mon - Sat 9am - 5pm
      Sun 10am - 4pm

      • +2

It'd be the super place for it. =)

That said, harsh. Damn. Wish you did late night thursday pickup.

        grumble grumble, ponder…

  • +3

I got one of these as a 2 pack in Costco.

You get the small one and big one along with Duracell batteries for $36

    • +1

I think the 2 packs are the first generation, which use the luxeon LEDs?

What runtime/lumen specs are on the pack?

    • If it says 484 on the led, it's the Cree XP-E. Apparently the LED was upgraded before the packaging was revised.

  • +1

    Just brought one, thanks.

  • What's the best batteries for these?

    • +4

Eneloops with 'D' adapters IMHO! ;)

      • +2

I can't wait till we sell rechargeable batteries :)

        • +2

You doing Eneloops? When do you think (guesstimate)?

        • When we find the right deal. It's a matter of when not if ;) Edit: so unfortunately no timeframe. But I'll be trumpeting it from the rooftops because I'm a huge fan

      • This won't work as the tail spring won't stay on contact with the conductive plate of the AA in the adapter.

Also, the weight balance would be weird.

    • D batteries. ;P

      • When are you doing this? :O

    • how about this ?

      edit: zinc carbon. nevermind

ONLY PUT DURACELL OR EVERREADY BATTERIES IN MAGLITES!!!!

I've got an old 4D Maglite, and one of the old batteries in it swelled and leaded a little fusing to the shell preventing removal. Duracell and Everready have an arrangement with Maglite, and Maglite will honor a lifetime repair (parts and labour) to remove batteries that fail and replace any parts damaged by the swelling/leaking battery. My torch was infrequently used, and the batteries in there were close to 10 years old!! No dramas!

Got my old clunker repaired for free just a few months ago. Just had to send it to Hornsby in Sydney (about $10), and they sent it back registered post like 2 weeks later.

They dont openly advertise this, but its definitely a life time warranty if you search the appropriate websites.

      • Good to know, thanks! :)

  • +1

i remember getting this and the smaller maglite in a pack for $20 from coles. it's still going awesome. Wasn't LED though.
I bought one anyway to keep in the car as it looks good

    • For the same money you can now upgrade your old maglight 4c/4d to "new technology LED"
      http://www.oo.com.au/Maglite_4C_4D_3_Watt_LED_Upgra_P32485C1…

      • +4

heh whats the point of upgrading when I can just buy the entire LED torch for the same price

        • -1

That was my point, I was being sarcastic with the "upgrade" comment.
It maybe useful if you have blown the globe though.

I have an old "6D Batton" maglight, just too big to be useful.

        • +2

Hmmm - for my money you may need a bit of tone-tweeking on the alleged sarcasm front.

      • +1

For the same money…Our Price: $29.95 Delivery: $7.95

Now, I'll admit that math is not my forte; but isn't $37.90 just a wee bit more than $20.00? Not even mentioning the usual 'then vs now' price conundrum! :p

        • +1

HNBB is $29+delivery. So that's $37.90 vs, at the minimum $36.95 (if I remember the minimum delivery charge right).

So OO is not cheaper (by a smidge) and you get two torches if you get it from HNBB.

Basically, this is the wookie of the bargain. It does not make sense! And if it does not make sense you must acqui- err reject!

        • "You get two torches if you get it from HNBB"

Eep! No! That's a different product and not what is on offer here

Edit: DUH. My bad. Notch it up to marketing paranoia about over promising

        • +1

No I meant you get to keep your old torch and get a new one from HNBB and therefore have 2.

I think I need to eat a bigger lunch next time. :)

    • +2

effective anti road-rage device if kept in the car ;)

      • +2

        Darn tootin'! :)

      • I've been wanting to ask; how good are these things as a defensive weapon?

        • Probably not quite as good as they are a visual deterrant, which is probably better to be honest, with our specious legal system & litigious society! Sometimes just seeing you have motive & means is enough to scare off would-be attackers! :)

A real baton or extendable baton is a better weapon any day of the week & thrice on Sundays IME! ;)

        • +1

As StewBalls said, not as effective as a proper baton/bat.

But you can legally keep one in your car (because technically, it's just a torch).

You cannot drive around with a baseball bat in your car unless you have a really good excuse (ie. on your way to baseball practise, and be able to prove it)

      • Haha, that is reason I bought it, based on Australian law, you only can put this instead of the baton in your car.

    • You can get LED upgrade kits for your older smaller maglights!

AND still get this 3D light :)

  • +1

    very tempting…

  • +1

Holy shit that's a good price for a Maglite :O

  • +1

also this doesn't come with batteries. Is this the best bet for batteries ? 2xD Philips for $2.50 ?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/320742006220

    • +4

Those are zinc carbon, which are really average. Definitely use alkaline or NIMH batteries.

      • +1

I use 6x 8000mAh D cells (NiCad as thats what i had lying about) in my maglight 6D, takes a while to recharge, but a great saving long term.

  • To the OZTREZ rep, I have just purchased 3 maglites and chose auburn pick up. the total came to $87. I paid on CC. I have got an email confirming my order for $87.

Now checking my net banking, it looks like i have been charged $109.35. There is extra $22.35. It looks like i have been charged the delivery fee even though i picked 'Pick up' option. Can you please have a look? I have also sent an email on the Big Buys contact us page. Thanks

    • We're currently testing a fix for this issue right now. Every single customer that has been overcharged will be refunded tomorrow, others don't have to contact us to receive this refund it will be automatic. Sorry guys :( the testing didn't have this issue something went funny when we went live with it.

      • +1

Thanks for your quick response. Much appreciated.

        • +1

Not a problem. I know how annoying this kind of stuff is as a consumer myself

  • +1

Please note! There is a current bug in our system that is charging for delivery when you choose pickup. It's being rectified as we speak, sorry for anyone that is put out by this there should be a fix in the next couple of hours.

  • -2

    131 lumen XPG is good.
Same old argument with Maglite applies: they are stupidly heavy for an LED torch of that brightness. But it does not matter because people only buy them as legal weapons.

    • +1

Can you suggest an alternative with a 79 hour battery life?

      • Battery life is a trade-off with power of course.
A D-cell alkaline has about 12AHr, and needs 3 for an LED, so only 0.5W (150mA to the LED) for 79 hrs.
        (which is not very bright)
You'd need 4 or 5 18650 Li-Ion cells to do the same job, but they are much lighter and rechargeable.
And you only need carry one in the torch at a time. Change every 16 hrs of use at that low power level.

        • The fact v1c was trying to point out is that your comparison is specious; different tools for different applications…I hate to use car analogies but you're comparing a Humvee to a Ferrari, so to speak! ;)

  • Anyone using this for their bike? Would this be good?

  • After I select delivery and give the postcode, update then select checkout with paypal, it only show $29 in paypal, while it should be another $8.9 for delivery?
    Please confirm thanks.

    • You'll find nicky that the delivery will be added to the PayPal at the final screen.

      • Thanks oztrez, just bought one.

    • +1

Yes i got the same and thought 'pisser, i might get free postage here"
But it was not to be. :(

However $26.70 postage is a "bit steep" when buying 3.

      • Understood. Sorry about that, our delivery calculator is not currently super advanced. We're working on it

      • Yeah! There definatley should be a discount for multiple items..

  • How do u pick these up? Is there a Big Buy section @ auburn hn?

    • Essentially yes. 223 Parramatta Rd Auburn :)

  • +1

3D LED? Is this a torch or a TV? :P

    • its a TV that runs of 3 D batteries :)

    • +8

It's a TV. The only channel it shows is white though.

  • +2

.opps, this is not the 'reply' button..

  • +1

    $30 postage to Perth for 3 buy…..???…..Meh….

  • +1

This is an excellent buy - hopefully there'll be some really good deals in future as well… maybe a cheap brand name android tablet or a good portable DVD player hint hint :)

    • Those things sound like fun! I'm happy to add chief product tester to my titles :)

  • +1

Hi rep, when will it be possible to pick up from your warehouse in Loganholme as well?

    • Unfortunately this was purchased before we were shipping to Loganholme as standard so not at the moment grips unfortunately. Soon everything will be available at both locations but not yet :S

      • +1

        Thanks

  • +1

If the 4D version of this was up for the same price, I wouldn't hesitate.

  • Ordered, Thanks

  • sold out :(

    • +1

Confirmed. Sold out everyone. I'm sure we'll try to source more ;)

      • Greater variety if you can. Some small powerful ones before EOY would be awesome. :)

  • +1

I've had my 6D 1st gen maglite since I was 13 (in my 30's today) and it still works great. Would love a 3rd gen LED but just missed this deal. Will keep an eye out for future deals thanks.

  • Get a Zebralight SC51 instead (60AUD posted, but better bang for buck). 200 Lumens from a single AA battery and currently the most efficient and brightest AA flashlight!
Build quality also owns the Maglite (the maglite does have better throw but thats it)
