CarPlay2Air Wireless Apple Carplay Dongle US $40 off: US $119.95 (~AU $196) + Free Shipping @ Carplay2air

LOYALTY

Hi all,

This is my first deal post so please be nice.

For those of you who hate wired Apple CarPlay and have been looking for an adaptor to enable wireless Apple CarPlay, CarPlay2Air have a solution which plugs into the smartphone USB port of your car. This one is used for cars that have Apple CarPlay enabled from the factory and is widely supported with most modern vehicles. It works beautifully on my Mercedes-Benz CLA250 2017 Sport 4Matic, and you can see a list of supported manufacturers/models on their website.

Note: They also have a version that can be used with Android powered entertainment units, but not sure if the discount code works for that product as I have not tried it.

Original price is $159.95USD (~$266.84AUD) but I was emailed a special promo code (PROMO CODE: LOYALTY) via email as a previous customer, for $40USD off the original price, bringing it down to $119.95USD (~$193.74AUD). It's quite a costly device but many of us don't mind paying for convenience of having a wire free CarPlay experience.

Not sure how long the code is valid for but I just made a purchase myself and it worked perfectly. It seems to also be a generic code so shouldn't be tied to a customer account.

Enjoy the freedom of wireless CarPlay!

  • you need to link to the store
not just a picture of the cart

    • clicking on the picture takes you to the store and product listing, does it not?
I just tried it and it takes me to the product listing..

      • because the OzB mods have edited your post so it takes you to the store.
when you posted it, clicking the pic took us to a screenshot of your cart showing the discount.

Understood. I thought it would be able to do both - i.e. clicking picture shows full size picture, whereas clicking Go To Deal, would go to the Website as I provided the link. Will know for next time, thanks.

I personally don't see the point as most of the time you'd be plugging in the phone for charging anyways…

    • useful if you have wireless charging or driving a short distance with full charge.

    • +5

Not always.. my iP11 Pro Max lasts for hours on wireless carplay and I only charge it when I need to top up. I don't think constantly charging your phone is healthy for the battery. Say for instance, you took your phone off charge in the morning and it's at 100%, you get into the car and now you're plugging it in to continue charging when it's already at 100%. "overcharging" isn't healthy for the phone's battery. But each to their own.. if it doesn't suit your needs, then fine. Others will on the other hand love it.

Absolutely, using wireless technology heats up the phone quite a bit, that the worst time to be charging.

        • There are some researches saying that wireless charging is actually better than fast charging from cable
as fast charging with higher current will drain the battery life faster (and it heats up battery internally)
not sure what's right or wrong tho

@littlesoldier: Short version: your phone is smarter than you when it comes to charging its battery, let it do it.

details: The phone has a charging system that prevents over charge and over discharge. they stop charging when the battery is full.

it also has thermal protection circuitry.

Wireless charging produces just as much if not more heat in my phone at 7.5W as it does charging via cable at 15W (iphone XS)

when your phone is fully charged, it should change from a lightning icon on the battery icon to a power plug icon after a while.

fast charging (high wattage) is fine for your battery, lithium cells can take quite a bit of juice unlike older nimh/nicad batteries.

too hot or too cold is when you run into trouble. too hot is generally over 50 celsius. too cold is below freezing. This is why your gopro battery sucks at the snow, especially if its been dropped in the snow.

            • @Laserface: The other aspect is that it's meant to be best to keep the battery at 60-80% charged. Keeping it at 100% is less good for it, and keeping it flat is also less good. Unfortunately you can't tell your phone to stop charging at 80% while you leave it plugged in all day and then back up to 100% in the 30 mins before you head out somewhere without a charger. They do now have some intelligence in doing this overnight to a degree while you sleep though, which is good.

The heat aspect is interesting. Charging slower is meant to be a little better for the battery, but if wireless charging heats it up a lot more per watt off effective charging, then the slower charging nature of wireless is cancelled out by this anyway. I guess this is why the iPhone chargers are still generally 1A output only.

              • @rhino015: Dont over think it.

Charge your phone how you need to when you need to. all batteries wear out.

much like force quitting applications all the time, you are burning more time and energy (both yours and the phones) managing something that it does totally fine on its own.

the above does not apply to android devices, which dont seem to be great at battery or memory management.

Constantly charging is ok for modern phones. It's probably not great for them to be 100% discharged though. Overcharging is not possible with modern phones. But it's a good thing not to charge while it's super hot though.

        • Ah ok. I'm not an expert in Lithium Ion batteries but was always under the impression that you should generally take your devices off charge when they're at 100% charge. Anyways, for me like I said not a big deal, as I'm purely paying for the convenience and not breaking all my lightning cables.

  • Anything for Android?

    • Not that I'm aware of sorry.

This is super convenient especially when doing drive thrus unplugging/plugging when paying using your phone but a bit hard to justify the price though. Thanks for posting!

    • You're welcome. Glad to see my first deal post here was appreciated.

Yeah the price is quite high, but with the discount it is a little bit easier to swallow. I would definitely not ever pay the full price they were asking, especially with the USD>AUD currency exchange rate.

  • Thanks for posting this, I've wanted one for a while but thought the price was too steep!

    • You're welcome! Yes the original price is definitely way too much for what it is, but the discount makes it a little easier to swallow.

  • Interesting device. How well does it work with the “knock off” CarPlay stuff?

  • I have no doubt this will get cheaper over time. China always finds a way. They did for carplay enabling addons too. A lot of money to spend, and my iPhone SE only lasts me half a day anyway even with 95% healthy battery (thanks iOS 13), so I'm always charging anyway. Plus, I really don't want to add any more frustrations / lag / wireless problems into my life anyway.

    • There is a cheaper alternative, but the support is not as good (from what I've read on reddit and macrumours forums). Check out Carlinkit on Amazon.

I opting to deal with a company that has better support.

      • Fair enough, I just could not justify this high price tag for something that both solves a problem (not having to plug phone in) while it creates a another problem (phone not being charged in the car while using GPS and wifi simultaneously).

        • Not too much of a problem, for me anyways. My iP11 Pro Max from a full charge was able to last a 3 hour drive (6 hours total - to and back from destination) using Apple Maps, Spotify and connected wirelessly to carplay and there was still about 40% battery left on it.

  • This looks identical for just over $100 delivered. amiright?

    • No. That is specifically for Android powered headunits and not factory head units from most manufacturers.
As stated in the product description: "For aftermarket Android radio navigation with touch screen operation".

The product I've mentioned in this deal is for factory units, not aftermarket ones that use Android as their O/S.

      • The photos tell a different story. I'm going to buy one and check.

        • I wouldn't rely on the photos, they're for illustrative purposes. It clearly states that it is for android powered systems, not factory units that run off some OEM system..

CarPlay2Air also has the same product: https://carplay2air.com/products/carplay2air-wireless-adapte… (hence the lower cost vs the one for factory units)

but by all means, buy one if you like.

Large thread on macrumors on this
    https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/carplay-adapter-to-conv…

Also Carlinkit 2.0 is same device according to macrumors users
    https://www.amazon.com/Carlinkit-carplay-Wireless-activator-…

    • Yep, they're technically the same device but support wise, it looks to be CarPlay2Air provide quicker turnaround with support especially with firmware.
