Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Gigs Streamed Live and Free at YouTube

3900

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are showing that it's possible to #KeepTheMusicGoing by live streaming their gigs for free from Hamer Hall.

Next up tonight is

Rimsky-Kooraskov's Scheherazade, 7pm 16 March

Crank up the wireless hi-fi dolby surround sound and enjoy the serenity.
Enjoy, be safe, and be kind to eachother - we'll get through all of this together :)

PS. If you are in a position to do so, maybe consider donating to keep these brilliant artists employed.

    Finally.
No more evil eye for not wearing pants to the symphony

To adhere to social distancing I can livestream my performance of Drycoughski if anyone is interested.

        Would you recommend the veal?

I'd love to listen to Swine Lake

Hmm… I wonder if it's too soon to request the 1812 Undertaker.

  • Does that mean Skyfall will get streamed live? We had tickets

With exception to tonight's stream at Hamer Hall, all performances at Arts Centre Melbourne venues are cancelled for the duration of the closure (till April 12th).

MSO are currently looking at options for rescheduling some of their upcoming performances (including Skyfall), so keep in touch with their box office.

Skyfall and Ben Folds are getting rescheduled so they won't be streamed

    • There are also likely to be rights issues with the live to screen concerts. Basically these orchestras licence the performance and I'd imagine there's no provision in there for streaming it.

Such a great idea, big kudos to the team at MSO.

    Sydney, over to you.

    • +3

      As a Sydney-sider, I'll just stream MSO.

This is so awesome - love the generosity and unity.

    Similar situation here (Berlin Orchestra):

Edit: oh crap, I think the livestream got Ozbargained… Lagging/buffering every few seconds… :(

    • Ditto. Wasn't sure if it was my ISP

It helps to go back a few minutes rather than staying with live - Since I did that it's been stable. There is a lot of World interest, but about 1000 have dropped off from the 3.6K that were on before the buffering started.

    • Yeah damn! Was going so well and was one of my favourite pieces! Ah well, great to see it was so look popular though. Fingers crossed they up their streaming game for future concerts. Very well done MSO!

THey appear to have cleared the cobwebs, and are streaming well now.

  • Thanks for sharing. Always wanted to visit hamer hall.

Nice. Also Berliner Phil offers 30 days free access to their online concert hall which is pretty cool. apart form the usual concerts, there're also lots of archives of master's film of the past. https://www.digitalconcerthall.com/en/home

  • Perfect streaming now, no buffering! And a bonus you can skip right past that sneaky piece to Scheherazade (around 30 min mark).

  • Damn! Missed it.

Wonder what kind of internet connection they have at Hamer Hall; shame about all the stuttering.

    Due to obvious reasons

Someone sharted on the seats again?

  • I saw Sydney SO play Sheherezade in the Town Hall last Thursday evening… might be the last concert there for a while. Great to see these orchestras stream their concerts free! I hope SSO follow suit.

An incredible gesture for sure. But please consider supporting arts organisations in any way you can. This period may end up being career-ending for many great artists without support. It is very much like having bushfires ravage our industry.

  • Hopefully there's a replay of it on youtube or something.

  • Dolby is not supported by Youtube.

  • This is very lovely. Thank you.

  • The Youtube copy still has buffering issues. Does anyone know anyone at the MSO media department and can ask them to reupload it to Youtube?
