        • you check out "ho jiak" sydney

        • Albees in Campsie or Kingsford

      • +3

Not full "nope" - just not really. It's franchise Malaysian made more to a western taste. And it's about 20% more expensive than legit Malaysian food.

        • +4

When they first opened, they were passable. I'll say my nope is pretty accurate to their quality now.

    • +1

I don't know what authentic Malaysian cuisine should taste like but I love their Curry Laksa and Curry Chicken dishes…

The only disappointment for me is the price!! 😬😬😬 ☺☺☺

  • +16

over priced anyways , small portions…. and taste average … this coming from a malaysian

    • They're even more overpriced now… and their menu is even shittier.

  • +2

    Time to get fat

  • Awesome 😎

My only advice is to use the Liven App. You get 10% credit back when you pay with it at PappaRich and this App can be used for many other places.
    https://www.liven.com.au/

    • Merchants are allowed to decline liven payments if they decide to. Not for papa rich but I think it happened to me with d’elephant thai and was advised this when I contacted liven help.

Time to change their name to PreppaRich

Anyone know if it's the same prices for takeaway?

    • Rang the store, dine in only….sigh

      • +1

Ate some, then asked for a take away container saying I have to go. No problems.

        • BYO container. Shuffle them in, bill please!

          • @c9: They can provide free container.

      • The Express stores allow takeaway..

  • +1

    NT?

    • I hope so.. might bring some life to Casuarina's quarter..

      • They need a franchise store in Palmo. Maybe Gateway. The drive is not worth it from the slums to Cas.

        • +1

highly doubt that with our current economy.. only reason I drive to the slums is for Guzman Y Gomez haha!

  • +2

    SA?

  • -4

terrible food, seems alright for the price

  • +2

This s one of my fav restaurant.. I will be going on 16th n 24th 😁

  • Has anyone tried the Deep Fried Chicken skin before? What are your thoughts on it?

    • +1

had it 3 years ago. Feels like its prepacked and smells…. unpleasant.

    • You'll want a few of them with some water. They get less appetizing about half way.

  • +1

Would have been great if it applies for take aways, who wants to sit in a restaurant these days

  • This is good a cheap thrill but expect to be hungry after having paid for a full meal. AVOID LIKE THE COVID-19 or the plague.

  • -1

$8 meals vs health? I opt for the latter.

  • Everyone will need to dine 1.5-metres apart from each other,
and don't over-judge the sniffles from a spicy sambal !

    • That's easy if you turn up at a quiet time.
Less than 10 people now (11:20) at Garden City Brisbane store. Mind you the entire Westfield is very empty.

Coughed a few times eating the Roti yesterday😷 No problems.
During the H1N1 pandemic I was asked to leave a downmarket Weatherspoons pub in England when I had a prolonged cough… The regulars weren't happy! It can turn nasty.

    $8 Nasi Lemak day!
Tasty & great value (for here).

As Malaysia closed its borders to foreigners from last night - this is now my planned Malaysian holiday😢

    • +2

I had the Nasi Lemak today as well. Very large serving and tasted delicious.

      • +1

It's their standard serving - had it a few times.
Asked for takeaway container as couldn't finish it (ate half, finishing it now).

        Tastes better in Malaysia🇲🇾😊
        But we're not invited😢

Every little place / family have their own special Sambal, which spices it up. And the curry is better tasting.

Were few at Garden City store yesterday for the 3 Roti for $8. Added 2 $2 curry sauce & $2 dahl, otherwise it would have been boring.
        Got busy after 12 today.

Going back for tomorrow's chicken curry laksa!

      • Good having the non meat option.

It's "vegetarian curry mutton" (soy based chunks in curry)
but listed as "vegetarian, or mutton" in Deal Description!

        • There was a queue there today. Everywhere else was quiet.

          • @Taegukgi: Very quiet - some stores looked like they were about to close down…

I asked them what "vegetarian curry mutton" was - a very strange sounding food😊

    • I had the Nasi Lemak today too (with mutton).

It was good, but apparently the restaurant did not have the coconut rice,
      so served me "chicken rice".

I'm not sure if they genuinely ran out of coconut rice or whether it's costly!

      • Wouldn't be surprised. They've served Nasi Lemak without Sambal in previous discount offers - unforgivable!

There was plain rice with the Chicken curry - I think that is usual at Papparich.

The only other $8 option was the vegetarian curry mutton.

As the "mutton" (soy based) is the vegetarian option - very strange they would serve it with Chicken Rice?

  • Lunch was great :)

  • Crispy Chicken Skin Day🐔
First in empty restaurant @11 this morning🌄

First time trying this - probably good shared entree. Won't buy again.

Comes with a drink (not juices or soft drink). Iced teh tarik - prefer it hot.

    From Papparich on Facebook:
from 12pm today PappaRich will be takeaway only. This may affect the $8 promotion at your local store. Please contact them directly for more information!

    • +2

Garden City, Brisbane are honouring $8 deal. Manager said decision was up to each store.

Takeaway only @11am, told to keep 1.5m away from others in queue, 1 person at time allowed inside, given docket & order brought to door. No spoon, bag or napkin - I brought my own & eating outside.

Worked well with only a few people.

  • Today is last day of promotion.. They've handled this pretty poorly for not allowing takeaway in the first place with social distancing

    • Your source for this end date?
Papparich on Facebook & App list tomorrow as last day.
This offer has been updated to end of March 25th 2020.

      • Yeah soz i meant tomorrow.

    • Pretty tough criticising them for something beyond their planning & control! They met conditions as they changed. If you wanted distancing - just choose to stay away.

The promotion was planned way before social distancing was expected or brought in.

Previous promotions I've seen also were dine in only - they want to encourage other purchases to offset the cost of promotion.

      • Gov advised public to practice social distancing long before they announced lockdown restaurants to only implement takeaway

        • Wrong again!
The Government has only now advocated social distancing practices.

Others have been wanting the Government to make the change long ago. The Government's Chief Medical Officer said it was unnecessary the day before this promotion started, encouraging people to continue to shake hands (interviewed on ABC Insiders program).

A few days ago, that was only advised for those likely to have come in contact with someone who has recently traveled from overseas etc. (See the first public education campaign.) I know because I have been complaining about it to politicians.

Better check announcements & dates - Papparich met all conditions by those dates!

Friday before promotion… Scomo said go about your normal activities - he said he was going to the footie.

At first day of promotion limit was 500 people. 3 days ago it was 100 indoor (which was met by Papparich I visited).

The full social distancing was brought in 1 day ago - only takeaway allowed.
Only then did the Government decide on a measurement for social distancing - 4 square meters per person.

It was the Government that was late in its announcements & changes - based on advice it was given. It's a complex task.

I was teaching hygiene & social distancing for this virus in first week of February to Carer groups looking after frail vulnerable clients… It's a habit that takes time to get used to. I've been practicing good hygiene since travelling in Asia during the H1N1 pandemic in 2009.

    • On the second day of the promotion I suggested…
how to get a takeaway &

how to maintain social distance by avoiding busy times

Worked well for me during the promotion😉

  • Today's $8 meal was one of the best Roto Chanai I've had in a long time.

    And almost no one waiting.

On the way to the restaurant, found the Papparich restaurant owner wandering around Westfield Garden City, Brisbane. He said "It's like a ghost town!". I asked him why he wasn't at Papparich? - "No customers."
He has 60kg chicken (200 serves) arriving for tomorrow's $8 meal, but likely most will be wasted.
He's just trying to make enough to cover costs, but likely he won't meet that. Difficult time for many including businesses, that still have costs to cover.

  • Tomorrow's meal (Wednesday) is the last day of $8 meals.
    (Takeaway only, where available.)
    Nasi Lemak Day🇲🇾

  • Opening hours may be varied.
Garden City restaurant is looking at opening for lunch & dinner, closing around 2:30-5pm, and earlier in evenings.
    Check with your local restaurant.

  • Went to mt gravatt tonight. Strange enough, when i ordered, they said minimum of 2…. Although i could see from previous dockets they kept, someone bought one $8.

The rice was too much water… And now i hv to finish 2 chickens

    • Could buy 1 @lunch, but I bought 2.
      Coconut Rice was good.

Paid by Liven using $10 referral credit (& $10 to other account) + 10% credit. So 2 free meals & made a $5.60 profit!
