Not the latest generation (that's the NB Laser i think?) but an excellent bulb at a great price. Much cheaper buying 2x individually here than the duo packs on Amazon or Powerbulbs. Lots of reviews say they have short lifespan, but so far it's been about ~2+ years/20,000 kms on a set in my wife's car and so far so good, so I bought a spare set of H11s for $22.88 delivered as a backup)

  • Nice find. Ordered the H7s. Don't forget Cashrewards for another 2.1% off.

  • H4 Currently unavailable

    • it didn't say limited stock (normally it will if less than 10) maybe it got broden'd?

      • Pretty sure they dont make them anymore… its all the new laser version. And theres a basic version but its specs are less than unlimited were.

Pity, the unlimited had a shorter life but I believe Laser are shorter again. Double the price, half the life. Its a parts sellers wet dream.

The brighter the halogen light the shorter the life. It gets exponentially shorter the closer you get to tungsten's melting point.

          • @Cluster: They arent halogen, they are xenon filled. Not HID, but same gas.

Brighter halogen or xenon does not necessarily mean shorter life though. For these it does, but not in general. Depends how you achieve that added brightness. Older trucks and some 4wd run 24v 75/70 (this was standard in semis for decades before LED) and they can last a lot of miles. You used to be able to get 12v 80/100, and in the right headlight lasted as long as a 60/55.

Given we already have tungsten, and xenon, theres no material we can change to make them brighter from the same ADR approved ratings. So the only answer IMO is to cheat by under volting the bulbs, or running them 'hot'. If say you design the bulb at 11.8v instead of 12, its not much difference but at say after voltage drop of the vehicles wiring loom the bulb sees 12.3v of battery voltage (12.6v), maybe more with the charging system fired up, those bulbs will produce more light, while still meeting the ADR 12v 60/55. However in the car its over those ratings and runs hot, producing more light. And because they run hot they burn out quicker too. They dont cope as well with battery voltage as a true 12v bulb will. But they dont have to burn out quicker to be brighter, just if you use the cheat to achieve it.

The rules of electrickery and physics tell me this is the only way they can make the same materials and quantities, produce more light.

I use the Nightbreaker Unlimited in my classic, still have them in there, I was happy to trade off a little service life for added brightness (and they are brighter) but its gone stupid now for little gain but a pissing contest. For Osram, the gains are huge.

Twice the price, half the life was bad enough. Half the life again makes us saps if we keep buying them.

            • @Tuba:

              I use the Nightbreaker Unlimited

If someone was to be looking to upgrade their lights but cares more about value than having the very best, would you recommend these?

              • +1

@Mr BoMBAStiG: These (Nightbreaker Unlimited) are the ones I used, and were ADR legal. The loss of service life wasnt that bad, maybe a 1/3 shorter life but the gains in light is good enough to warrant it. I had them (H4s and H1s) in a twin headlight Falcon ute (AU3 XR), and I never needed driving lights even on the Newell at 3am. Ive used them in my SWB 4WD too and they lasted OK even offroad. And I still have them in my 70s Falcon too, but it doesnt get much night use.

Just dont buy from Auto Barn or SCA, they wanted something like $70 for them, I paid maybe $33 a pair at Powerbulbs.

Most of the other brighter lights in brilliant whites etc arent ADR approved.

But I wouldnt bother buying the newer Laser version. Its just a scam now, a shorter short life, higher price. Its the epitome of the opposite of OzBargain.

  • I usually go for the Philips Xtreme Vision however this is a great price.

  • H11 is $29.24 and only 1 left

  • H4 gone. H7 up to $28 again

  • If they sell out, check powerbulbs.

Not as cheap as this, hence not listing a bargain, but always super affordable.

    • Powerbulbs is a very good site. They perpetually have 20% off sales. If you miss one, wait 2 days for the next.

      • 25% seems to be more regular

Honestly, I prefer buying headlight LEDs on Aliexpress.

Had so much trouble with Halogens in the past.

  • How much extra HP do these lights add?

    • about 30, but you'll need to upgrade your blinker fluid to squeeze the max HP out of it.

      • be sure not to get the blinker fluid in you eyes though, it can cause uncontrollable blinking

        • at least people will know my intentions in advance ;) ;) ;) ;)
