      • And AutoCad system requirements haven't changed since?

  • Is there an additional storage slot for a 2.5" HDD?

    • it's an m.2 stick according to the specs…

      • +2

        From above linked review:

"The Latitude 3490 does have impressive upgradability though, thanks to its SO-DIMM RAM and empty 2.5-inch drive bay that can be used without the need to buy additional parts."

        • That IS a very useful feature! Means you don't have to blow away the Win 10 installation and faff round with getting a Dell recovery USB downloaded and set up to reinstall on the new M.2. Of course a SATA drive (I assume?) will be much slower than an M.2. one…

          • +1

            @DealhunterMelbourne:

Of course a SATA drive (I assume?) will be much slower than an M.2. one…

Not necessarily, cheap M.2 drives are just the same as SATA drives, they just have a different form factor.
Only the expensive NVMe drives are appreciably faster.

Combined with a low power i3 CPU you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between a fast NVMe drive and a SATA drive anyway.

    • yes 3490 has a 2.5" SATA bay inside

  • good deal for school BYO laptop.
Win10P can be got for $10.
    +4 GB RAM, $25.

    • +1

      Win10P $10. How?

      • I'd assume an eBay special

  • Not sure if this also applies to the Core i3, however the battery life for Gen 8 Core i5 is a big improvement over Gen 7…

  • OP, will this get dispatched today? Since your eBay listing says generally dispatched same day for payment paid by 11am. Thanks.

    • +2

      Maybe, or worst case tomorrow.

If you refer to your estimated times they are normally pretty accurate.

  • Can you install hackintosh on this?

  • +5

The 4gb for $55 is not a good deal for those unaware. Much better price can be sought after on ebay.

    • -1

I don't think they are charging for the ram. The difference in price is for the CPU.

ETA. Oops, looks like they are selling upgrade sticks.

    • +1

      links?

    • Best I can find is $42 delivered? Only saving 8 bucks

Mind you from the spec sheet, it states the most ram that can be had was 32gb. A single 8gb stick would cost around $50 while giving up some total weight or giving way for future upgrades.

        DIMM Configurations:
        (1 X 4 GB; 1 x 8 GB; 1 x 16 GB; 2 x 4 GB; 2 x 8 GB; 2 x 16 GB;)
        2133 MHz DDR4 for 6th and 7th generation processors
        2400 MHz DDR4 for 8th generation processors

        • I'm seeing alot of mix product details

What Dell Latitude 3490 memory speed is supported?
          DDR4-2400 and DDR4-2666

Good news though, different product detail specs both state 2400 MHZ DDR4

This can be had NEW for $50 for 8GB
          2 for $100

paying $55 for another 4gb just limits yourself from upgrading in the future.

  • DEAL UPDATED TO THE 7th GENS

    • Could you please reply to my comment about the evidence of the Dell 1yr warranty being included? It's not listed on the eBay listing even.

      • +1

He won’t because its rubbish. Basically if there is a problem after 90 days rtb then you’re screwed

  • +8

Should be illegal to sell 4gb ram win 10 computers lol

  • +2

FYI: Latitude's are great. But you can usually pickup decent refurbished from GraysOnline for around $400-$499 mark with 12 month warranty, i5, 8gb ram, etc. This is when Ebay has the 20% sale

    • +2

I thought they have disappeared from ebay since second half of last year.

Since I needed to contact them for my ebay purchase for warranty, their messaging service for me was hitting a wall too as product code/number was not found so just gave up.

  • Hi OP,
Can I install the another 2.5" SSD drive in this laptop?
    Cheers

    • +3

3490 has 2.5" SATA bay inside

    • Yes, it has a 2.5" drive bay free

  • Any refurb XPS15?

  • Any chance there'll be any more 8th Gens rep?

    • Wanting to know as well !

    • +6

I do have some reserves but won't update quantities until current orders are processed.

      • Do you have anything recent upcoming in 15.6"?

    • +1

I would not hold out. We only have a couple of spares and I have about 50 PM's requesting them.

    • +3

Balance of 8th Gen's are available for purchase.

      • Link please if any left…

Sorry just seen your previous comment…

      • Same. Will buy one.

      • Bugger missed this, thought you might pm those who requested it but no such luck I suppose.

3x90 wouldn't be my first choice when it comes to personal laptop, as build quality and components are lower than the legendary 5x90
however at this price.. as new.. with warranty included.. even gen7 CPU based config is a steal at this price.

(Currently $364 with code discount on ebay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-250-G7-HD-15-6-Intel-Dual-Cor…). General web usage + playing Football Manager on mid range settings. Thank you

  • This laptop + upgrade to 8gb = $362.78 (used POOL3 coupon). Awesome!

    • You ok with the 45min battery life?

      • +1

These are year old laptops, very unlikely the batteries are that depleted.

        • They take out good batteries and put in bad batteries that last 45m min 🤣

    • Still on slow mail.

      • +2

next week I guess. I scrambled an old ddr4 stick and 2.5 ssd so I am ready to pull the damn thing apart when it arrives

but first thing I'd be doing is checking service tag for warranty. if no warranty this is going straight back

  • +3

Ok so i just had my laptop delivered (the core i3 8th gen one).

Everything looks good so far. It came in a brown box with the laptop packaged in bubble wrap and also included the charger.

It looks in great condition. It is very light as well.

It seems very snappy from my short use . I will properly use it later tonight.

I also checked the service tag and the rep is telling the truth so no need to worry about warranty issues. Warranty expires Feb 5th 2021.

I might come back later today or tomorrow and follow up with more comments after i use the laptop.

    Hope this helps everyone.

    • Whats battery like? Some guy was all over these comments saying it's 45 min battery and they swap out good batteries for dead ones, is this true?

      • ok so i just checked and i have 97% battery left with around 2hours 27 min remaining.

But for some reason it says right now 12 hours 29 min remaining. I don't think that's correct though.

But i haven't used it properly but seems like good battery life for now if the battery calculator is correct.

        • Probably scales based on workload if you have auto battery setting.

    • thank you for all this info! it's a relief that the warranty is there. could you tell what LCD panel is installed? HWInfo would show it to you. HWInfo would also tell you the wear of your battery, by the way.

      • +2

        For the monitor it says

Monitor name: AU Optronics [Unknown Model: AU0263D]

        Monitor name (Manuf): B140HAN [Dell P/N: KJY05]

        2018 model it says.

Also for the battery it says:

        Designed capacity: 41998 mWh
        Full charge capacity: 41998 mWh
        Wear level: 0.0%

Seems to be good battery :)

        • ah great thank you very much!

so, for once, this is standard battery 42Wh (3 cell). You can also buy and fit 56Wh (4 cell) to increase time on single charge (and weight, slightly, but that sort of comes with the territory)

Battery has zero wear, this is great. I will see what kind of time I am getting from mine when it arrives, and make a decision on battery upgrade. the more the better of course, but that's $100 just to get roughly 25% increase.

as for the screen I can't resolve that to a panel model, I will tear mine apart to check. There are all sorts of panels in B140HAN family from 200 to 400 nits and with various sRGB coverage. getting a good panel in there is another $100, if that one is not satisfactory in color reproduction or brightness.

          • @[Deactivated]: No worries. Report back once you receive yours. It will be interesting to see how each laptop differs from each other and how much used they all are. Not all will be the same each other.

I won't be upgrading the panel or battery because it is new.

I will upgrade the RAM later as well.

            • @Monty1089: last question - keyboard not backlit, right? normal English layout? Normal as in look at you other laptops or keyboards lying around, it shouldn't have a british pound key or weird symbols you wouldn't expect unless you're in Mexico haha

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: No backlit keyboard and it is a normal english layout.

By default the fn keys are disabled so volume keys and brightness you need to press fn first. But i disabled that and made it normal again.

                • @Monty1089: great, thank you!

                • @Monty1089: do you have fingerprint sensor? do you have windows 10 pro installed? does your service tag on the bottom of device match the service tag shown in BIOS?

                  • @[Deactivated]: Hi.

Yes i do have the fingerprint sensor. I haven't set it up yet though.

Also yes the service tag does match the one in the bios.

                    Is your laptop all good?

Have you checked the boot information that Cloudie9 mentioned below? It would interesting to see how much used your's is? The OP mentioned at the start they have been basically used once but not in my case. It has at least 50 entries it seems before i started using it yesterday which is disappointing.

                    • @Monty1089: Fingerprint sensor is rather handy. never had a laptop with a useful implementation of it until today.

See my review below, the service tag in SupportAssist application didn't match the one on the bottom of the unit (BIOS agreed with the bottom of the unit though). After reinstalling SupportAssist it picked up the right service tag, but that means that the SSD came from another laptop.

yes checked boot info, but that only shows boots since last time Windows was installed - and since I know that SSD came from another laptop it doesn't really tell me how my unit was used. The fact that it has an SSD from another unit means it's not practically new by definition

Overall my unit is in great condition. A scuff or two on the lid. Otherwise feels like pretty much new. I wonder what the real story of this fleet is. some school got fed up with windows and decided that managing chromebooks is easier? probably is, too

                      • @[Deactivated]: Did the installed drive model/size match the one from the factory as per the service tag listing on the Dell web site?

                        • @adam-07: it does, size and model matches. probably came from a different unit. Could it be, just for a second here, that they set one unit up, then took out all drives from all units, put them into a big pile, and cloned the set up unit to all of them? That would explain why windows wasn't activated on mine. That's the way I would do it if I had a fleet to reset.

  • +1

also for all peeps who missed out on gen8 i3, some consolation for you: i3-7130u and i3-8130u aren't very far apart.

i5 and i7 SKU's of gen8 were a big step forward compared to gen7 because of, well, double the cores. i3 SKU wasn't much of an advance, and gen8 i3 SKU is really just a gen8 stand-in for an i3 position, not very different from gen7 i3 counterpart. although I suspect that i3-8130u is really just i7-7500u with a different label, but that's a different story. shows you how much Intel was overdue for a real step forward

    the differences are:
    - higher frequency DDR4 (2133 vs 2400)
    - turbo boost instead of constant frequency, and lower base frequency (2.7 vs 2.2 - 3.4 GHz)
    - more cache

otherwise same process, same architecture. it's all subjective.

In day to day operations the difference is rather hard to notice, really. Maybe slightly faster here and there. At this price point I wouldn't worry as value for money both gen7 and gen8 based models of this deal are amazing. good luck finding anything close to this proposition retail at OW

  • I received mine yesterday, too (bubble wrapped and boxed as well). No warranty information was available for my service tag. I did not feel that it met the description of "mint" (lots of contact marks on the case and unclean screen) but sysinfo showed only five boots since September last year. Windows Professional was specified by Dell and Home was installed.

    • Where did you find the boot up information?

Also how is your battery wear like?

I also noticed this morning there is medium size scuff mark on the top of the laptop. But apart from that the screen was clean and looked very new. But everyone else's will vary a lot i guess.

      • +1

This will probably help you to find out how many boots your laptop has done over the time.

        https://www.trishtech.com/2016/12/how-to-find-out-last-boot-…

        • Thanks.

I just did that and it came up with a bunch of boot times. Various boot times from 6th Sep 2019, 11th Nov 2019, 7th Feb 2020, 12th Feb 2020 and from yesterday the 17th Feb it was our boot time information.

Everything before 17th Feb 2020 there was a lot of entries of boot information.

So the OP claims of used only once is not really true. I am still happy with the laptop but not mint condition as other's have claimed and mine has not been used only once.

  • received mine and all I can say for sure is I have a roll of bubble wrap now. Condition isn't quite top notch, but warranty attached as promised.

P.S. upgrade went successfully: now I have 8 GB RAM dual channel, and another 2.5 SSD for storing crap. So far so good
