    1,000 Points = $30.60
    2,000 Points = $57.80
    10,000 Points = $274
    20,000 Points = $471.75
    50,000 Points = $1172
    100,000 Points = $1989

Whilst they are on sale they are still really really expensive

They are generally 80% cheaper on ozbargain forums, though with risk.

Out of curiosity has anyone here actually purchased points before?

I've not, but friends who were a few hundred or thousand points short of a business class J redemption found it worthwhile. I don't think you buy just for the hell of it.

I have purchased points, needed some to top-up to get business class to Europe and was in a hurry (only a few reward seats left).

    • Yes purchased points a number of times but better value can be had in other programs (e.g AA, AK)

It used to be that purchasing Etihad miles was better value for some VA routes as well, so consider doing some math if you’re looking to do a VA redemption.

    • how does it work buying points on OZB?

  • Ok so market price is 1.1 -1.2 cents per point why would you pay double and how is this a bargain ?

    • I needed 7000 points for an upgrade last year and was asked to pay $233 for them. I asked if I could buy an Economy X upgrade instead and was told "sure, it's $59……or 7000 points"!

99% of cases, it would be dumb to buy these. But you can't always buy from black market at short notice, and always a risk of your account being suspended from breaking T&Cs.

But worth it like others said if your a couple K points short of a business class rewards redemption

It is really pointless to buy points this way when you can literally earn the same amount of points by spending that amount on something.

    Here's an example - https://www.onsport.com.au/store/mens/velocity/vff-bonus-poi…
This costs $35 and comes with 1,175 bonus Velocity Points. That's on top of the points you normally get from the spend on your cc.

There are these sorts of deals around all the time you just need to look for bonus points promotions, be it via their partner sites
    https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers…
    or via bonus offers
    https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers…
or even just via giftcard bonus offers from coles.

It is just stupid to buy points.

not if it takes weeks for the bonus points from purchase to arrive in your velocity account. This deal is for those who need points at really short notice for business flight redemptions

  • +2

They never do 100% bonus like UA or other airlines. It's just too expensive for 15% off.

  • If you have not held a virgin credit card for a year, you can apply for a high flyer credit card, pay $289 annual fee and meet their minimum spend to get 100k points. Way cheaper than paying $1989

    https://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/compare-our-credit-ca…

    • Receive 25,000 Points for each month you spend $3,000 or more on Eligible Transactions in the first 3 months from card approval (capped at 75,000 Points) and 25,000 Points after your first anniversary.

      • They must have changed the spending terms since I last got it. 75k for $289 is still a good deal compare to around $1500
