Probably worth noting that the new DJI Mavic Air 2 is (rumored) due out this year, so more discounts on the original are also likely.

    • Thanks pumpkie. I have to admit I haven't been following drone news lately, however just thought this was a good price :)

I'd take rumors with a pinch of salt. They rumored about the Phantom 5 for the last 2 years and it's still nowhere insight. DJI have recently restarted manufacturing and selling Phantom 4 Pro after 12 months off the market.
If you are thinking of getting one and a very good price comes up like this, I'd recommend take it now.

This is a great price for the Mavic Air Fly More, but it's still hard to recommend it over the Mini.
    https://dronedj.com/2019/11/29/dji-mavic-mini-versus-the-dji…

The Mavic Mini Fly More combo retails at $799, if they were the same price then it'd be a much harder choice.

Obstacle detection is worth more than $200. I crashed Phantom 3 Standard the first day and repair would be too expensive.

E: I just read your link. I would argue 3 most important categories obstacle avoidance, wind conditions and build quality air wins. It's absolutely worth paying more for better quality product.

      • +1

Absolutely agree. Those 3 factors alone were enough for me to pick air over mini. And when I went to NZ with it, I was so glad I didnt pick mini as the air would have blown the mini away.

I think this goes back to user preference though.

If you are looking for a drone to fly and capture excellent footage, then both of these do that really well, but the Mini is $200 cheaper. The Mini beats the Air in some categories that might be important to casual users, such as flight time and 249g, which means it doesn't need to be registered and is subject to fewer restrictions internationally.

The Air comes with front/back obstacle avoidance, but it still won't save your drone in many situations. I think the best thing for new drone users is DJI Care, which is only $59 on the Mini vs $149 for the Air.

I think the Mavic Air 2 will have much more compelling differences vs the Mini. I actually feel that the manual camera settings with RAW output in the Air is one of the biggest differentiators with the Mini at the moment, if someone is looking into more serious drone photography.

        • You need to buy DJI Care within 48 hours of activating the Mini though. I found out the hard way. If it's after 48 hours, there are instructions on the site where you need to video certain aspects of the drone and operation and upload it. Once DJI establish your drone still works properly and is still in good condition, they can approve you purchasing the care package.

        • Hmm I didn't know about DJI Care. Cheaper DJI Care does make Mini worth it.

      • What about the legalities of a sub-250 gram drone versus that above 250 grams? Probably important to consider now also.

        • Well both are legal. Just follow CASA rules, or whatever rules apply to the area you want to fly.

The Air is a great drone. Love mine. Takes some amazing shots. Handles wind well.

    Good price

Wondering if it's the same price Nationwide

    • Yes. Can someone confirm stock availability nationwid?

  • +1

Hmm, why are there two different price tags for the same product in the photo?

    • +1

Am getting the feeling that someone made a mistake printing out the tag, the price may have meant to be for the non-FlyMore. Officeworks website still show $1399. Good luck to those who are physically able to go to that store.

      • I might head back there this afternoon to try and give everyone an update on stock levels.

      • I reckon the price is correct as the $998 tag shows previous price as $1398 and it's also dated in January, as opposed to December.

    Any Mavic Mini deals?

    • Not that I could see- lots of cheaper Kaiser Baas ones. Its almost Officeworks is clearing out the drone space - so could just be a clearance or Mavic Air 2 news.

  • I have always been interested in getting a drone. I don't know much about them.
    Is this worth starting with?

    • +2

Yes. Great starting point. Some great features. A really good camera. Really easy to fly. Very foolproof.

      • Thank you

        • +1

I should also add that it's very hard to crash due to the advanced object avoidance system.

          • @wombat81: I was watching that some videos. It looks pretty impressive tbh
