[VIC] Yamazaki 12yr $240.80 (was $301), Lark Classic $142.40 (was $178) @ BWS Literature Lane

110

First deal, long time lurker. I work at the store, so am associated, just to be uber transparent.

We got allocated Yamazaki 12yr and Lark Classic Cask, but also managed to get clearance prices attached to them. To see the prices online you will need to enter the postcode for the city (3000) and set your store to Literature Lane.

The Yamazaki 12yr Sold out
For some reason the Lark is no showing online, but is available in store. The IT team are working on that and i'll edit in a link when it is fixed.

Edit
Hennessy XO Cognac has also been given clearance pricing this morning of $213. usually $284

Both are cheaper than Dan's
Yamazaki 12yr @ Dans $299
Lark Classic Cask @ Dans $179
Hennessy XO Cognac @ Dans $259

This is a Melbourne CBD Store, so sorry everyone not close by. Not sure how long they will keep the clearance prices on them.

Sorry if I have done anything wrong on this, let me know what I have to change.

Think I have two Yamazaki bottles left when I picked it up for around $100 each…. very nice whisky but don't want to open these now considering the value lol.

I think at the price it sells for now, there are better whisky's out there.

    • Friend and I just came back from Japan and got 12yo yamazakis for under $150 and got the umeshu plum wine for $16 (1/10 of the price here!)

come back to AUS to check the retail price here and yeaaaa dont want to open them either hahaha

      • Where at for $160? I was there earlier and cheapest I can find was about 20k yen

        • we managed to get it from a Don Quijote in the alcohol section they had very little left

also saw a lone 18yo yamizake bottle was so tempted… was quite disappointed the kyoto yamizaki distillery didnt have any of their own great stock for sale (but did get to enjoy it at the on-site bar)

@Ninjabredman: nice, i got 4 bottles of hibiki 21 instead and saw a yama 25 and hakushu 25 for 8k….

i was pretty disappointed by the distillery as well

but just before Christmas Costco got a shipment of Yama/hakushu 12 and Yama 18s…

Cleaned up the Yama12 and Hakushu12s but couldn't bring myself to buy 12 bottles of 18s for $11k….

            • @Shiq1: you got yamazaki and hakushu 25????

              • @Samsungnote10: No, didn't buy them… they were 8k each and didn't think they were worth it

      • Similar story, holiday to Japan and went to the yamazaki distillery.
Stuffed up the conversion and thought I made a mistake in buying a bottle of Hibiki 21 for $310AU. Current price is around $2000…

          Uh, https://dekanta.com/store/hibiki-21-years-old/

and DM has it sometimes for $800 locally.

Hoarding whiskies thinking they'll pay for uni some day is stupid, imho. Open and enjoy.

inb4 you don't know what you're talking about. Opened and finished numerous japanese whiskies including Hibiki 17 (<$100), Hakushu 12 (<$50)

      • They were around $240 AUD when I was there last July, so I settled for a couple cheaper Nikka stuff :)

Nah, the Yamazaki line is famously one of the few Japanese origin whiskies out there

  • would you be able to tell us for the yamazaki, has the supplier cost price gone up hence the retail price… or is it purely a retail mark up

    • Supply vs. demand + markups

    • We are not told about commercial agreements for most of the high end products. Two good examples are dom perignon and johnnie walker blue label, we dont know the supplier costs, our cost or the profit we make off it. We are just told its worth selling.

    • Past Japanese whiskey deals have explained the phenomenal increase in demand for Japanese whiskey in recent years has meant Age Specified whiskey stocks like this are severely depleted.

The number of old barrels laid down years ago can't meet the current demand, plus be blended into popular & cheaper Non Age Specified whiskey. So Distillers stopped selling them some time back.

Stock is low, so price is high.

      • yeah I understand and know that… but the price, who ultimately determines the price, seeing varying prices from retailer to retailer tells me they are the ones that are price gauging. especially the ones trying to sell a hibiki 12 for $500. the distiller (Suntory) may have limited the stocks of the whiskey but I don't think they would have increased the price that much to warrant any retailer to try and sell it for that amount.

        • It's becoming rarer stock, so the market prices it. If the retailer prices it too high, it sits on their shelves & finance books.

Obviously the market agreed with this price, as it sold out quickly.

I don't think you can buy some 12yr from the distillers any more. Hence the high price for remaining AS whiskey.

  • OP, is Yamazaki 12 price back to $301, if there is stock?

    • you would pay $301
