      loooll!!

  • Is there a sale on at Ringwood considering it isn't closing?

I went to the Clive Peters closing down sale. Saw an oven that usually retails for $1299. It was floor stock only and had two missing knobs, scratches on the glass, and obviously no warranty from Clive Peters (as they were closing down). So I asked for the cash price.

    "$1299"

No, the cash price, as in the discounted price you'll give me for damaged floor stock with no warranty.

"$1199 is the best I can do but you have to buy it right now"

I just shook my head and walked out the store. No wonder they're closing down.

    • Depends on the manufacturer unfortunately… Certain suppliers are bought direct, so the retailers are unable to budge on price. $100 off was probably removing any profit they would've made - such little margin on those items as it is.

manufacture or not, it was a faulty ex demo without warranty

        • +2

manufacturer still honours the warranty. 2 missing knobs does not = faulty. display model does not = demo.
manufacturer will gladly send you knobs for free. got bosch to send me out a knob earlier this year free of charge.

Keep in mind that the longer they keep it in stock, the more $ they will lose. The cost of labour, storage, advertising etc to promote the product will collectively increase with time.

      hahaha !

Also be aware Clive Peeters stocks a lot of 'agency' products (i.e. Miele, Gaggenau, Falcon, Gaff, etc.) that they sell on behalf of those suppliers.
The stock they have on display/warehouse is not actually their stock, and they sell on behalf of these other companies, even having to use separate computer systems to process the sales.
Because they sell them on behalf of other companies, prices are fixed, and any discounts you might be able to bargain with will be off other items/accessories/extended warranty.
If you look closely at a lot of stores catalogue and "% off" sales they always say in fine print "excludes agency products"

And yeah, warranty is not unique to Clive Peeters.
Every product is guaranteed by the manufacturor/supplier, not the store. The store just acts as the middle man if you dont want to contact the supplier yourself (usually resulting in longer delays, because you're adding an extra person to the procedure, who can sometimes be lazy/forget)

and how do I know all this… I used to work at Clive Peeters for a couple of years many, many moons ago.

clive peters……….p p p p p p *ss off already with all these 'closing down' sales!

    • +2

Because they've done so many of them………..

  • Thomastown had 50% off heaters when I was there last. Other things may be reduced more as well. Worth a look IMO.

You should add Thomastown to that list of closing stores, and remove Ringwood. Ringwood is changing to Hardly Normal, so they aren't doing the clearance sale.

  • As far as I know Clive Peeters are to change name into Harvey Norman, so not sure whether they really are "closing down" and selling the stocks…

    • +2

All stores are changing to HN except Thomastown, Malvern, Dandenong and Bendigo, which are closing and clearing stock.

I agree with nhand42, All inflated ticket prices. Then gives 35 -40% discount, still more than other retailers are selling for. WD live media player 129.95 after discount. laptops were overpriced. It was crowded(Dandenong) and lot of items were sold. This closing down gimmick should be treated with caution.

  • +2

Just a ploy to get you to spend. I would guess that they will transfer any remaining stock to other Clive Peeters/Hardly Normal stores rather than give you true value.

  • I was in the bendigo store on Tuesday and picked up two fuji xerox mono laser printers for $40ea was happy with that. Felt a bit sorry for the guy that served me who will be out of a job come Sunday.

Mr Norman is at it again, trying his best to milk your money for his next luxury jet. Now Clive Peeter is gone, there will be less competition.

    • Overheard one of the harvey norman staff telling a customer how Mr Norman bought these clive peters stores for the real estate and is closing them down so he can lease the sites. As stated you have to be careful as most of the products aren't any cheaper than harvey normal even with all the hype.

      • +2

Clive Peeters is a HN brand, HN is closing them due to "underperformance", same with their Rick Hart brand

        • +1

They SAY underperformance….looks more like monopolisation to me

I was at the Dandenong store this afternoon and was watching one of the sales guys put up the updated prices on the laptops, one of the prices changes caught my eye in particular. A Toshiba laptop was originally marked at $879 down to $800— he then took down that sign and put up a new one with a price of $840!

Be very careful not to get caught up in the 'closing down' bargains, Harvey Norman down the road is cheaper for most things that I have seen.

You guys Are right a LG Ice making Fridge I was Looking at jumped $ 300 over this week, So I guess you have to mark up to come down lol.. All smoke and Mirrors..!!!

  • +2

having worked in white Goods (fridges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, aircons, microwaves etc)for about a year in a large well known retail store i can tell you that the average markup- well in my cases was 18-23.8%, greater margin on cheap no name brands.

Also another massive tip the rrp on an item CHANGES at certain times in the products life cycle, so you may not be getting the bargain you thought you were. Just because it was $1000 a week ago does not mean picking it up for $800 today is that cheap in retrospect to the rest of the competition.

also there is always a warranty (to the the best of my knowledge) when buying from a store regardless if it is new, ex-demo or floor.
